What happened to the sprockets with mud release groves ? Thinking they were sidewinder, but left then right grooved my own back in the 80's , cause during mud race chain kept locking up

never had any issues with the current sprockets now days. I've only ever heard of one other person talk about the sidewinder your mentioned. Im a 90's baby so it sounds like that was before my time.

Hi, I have a question: If I lower a front tooth and raise two back teeth, will I have to change the chain?

Tooth for tooth, no. In your case, your adding a tooth of sprocket overall, that means you’ll need a longer chain if you can’t adjust the axle forward enough to accommodate it. Does this help? I’m always trying to explain this and feel like a fail miserably lol

@@DanMX2112 Let me explain: I have a KDX 200 with 13 teeth in the front and 47 in the back, but I feel that the bike doesn't scare me as it should, so I want to change it to the following configuration: 12 teeth in the front and 49 in the back, remembering that 1 front tooth equals two back teeth, so does that mean my chain will have 2 extra links?

Gotcha, what you are doing is adding more torque to your bike, which will then help with the excitement your wanting! The idea of one tooth in the front equals two in the back is not directly related to the actual tooth count but by the gear ratio. What this means is: if your size down 1 tooth on the front, that is equal to 2 in the rear, as referring to gearing. That being said, going from a 13 to a 12, now your chain is long 1 tooth. With the back, going from a 47 to 49, now your chain is short 2 teeth. Now do the math, 1 - 2 = -1 . Your short 1 tooth by using the new gearing.
