Playing with a Cuban chain and bracelet. Mullet and sunglasses. Aside from a great hip turn and swing, I think thats why Daly is so liked and respected by most golf fans and players alike. He never tried being someone he isn't. In a sport where you are taught to be a specific way, act a certain way, Daly brung such a refreshing vibe and atmosphere to the sport just by being himself.
I'm a huge fan of John Daly. I try to live life like he does. I play golf, but I'm not nearly as good as he does. But, I've got the rest of his lifestyle down good.
Tom Smith he was a great distance putter as well. He putted unbelievably well at the 1995 British open from 50 yards away in many cases. Holed a double breaking 40 footer over a mound in the playoff for the lead. crazy good. Didn’t even have to worry about the short ones, which weren’t usually his best
We love JD. He has been through a lot. But he is one of the rare ones that when he hangs it up and we don’t see him play anymore. Will be a guy we all remember. He may not have won the most trophies. But he won us all.
I heard a story where Daly was having some beers after a round and tried to get Tiger to come have one with him. Tiger was on his way to the gym. He told Daly exactly that lol.
A lot of people talk about "what if this" or "what if that" when talking about J.D. but it's important to remember that his pro career was/is still very successful by any measure.
@@atomzero1 There are exactly zero people with comparable careers in the Hall of Fame. John isn't close to being in the hall of very good. I like John but he spent most of his career outside of the top 200 in the world. He caught lightning in the bottle a couple of times in majors. He was basically Andy North.
@@atomzero1 Feel free to name one golfer in the Hall of Fame with even close to as bad of a career as John that made it based on playing not something like announcing. Just one. All I want is one to refute my "gravely mistaken" statement.
JD was so much more than big drives. He had incredible touch around the greens, great imagination and an excellent ball striker. I met him once back in the late 90s and he was also incredibly friendly and gracious. I would have been shocked if he said more than hello, but he talked to my brother and I for over 5 minutes. Real cool dude.
This guy should have won so many more championships and you can tell he fed off the crowd. One of the few badass cool guys left in sports that most importantly cared about the fans he has no ego.
John Daly was pure "box office" on and off the course. A superb golfer who had to contend with the Golfing establishment and many of his own demons. Wild Thing!
Whenever I see Daly,I smile and remember how my Dad's face would light up as he watched his antics on the golf course at some tournament on the television.
JD is one of those guys that may not have realized his unlimited potential but is still the most talented golfer in every tournament he enters. Dude is just gifted beyond beyond.
Seriously, you gotta Love John and his attitude towards Golf. He wasn't just a big driver, his short game was brilliant as well. To me, John played Golf for the fun and the money, not to be the best in the world. And that is fine, as Padraig Harrington said he played Golf and just wanted to be a Journeyman, win enough to have a nice lifestyle. I always loved watching John play as he made it fun.
He’s just got so much flexibility for such a large masse , he whips the club with a simple quick twitch movement . So much torque , with seemingly such little effort
I've always said he had one of the greatest smoothest swings I've ever seen. If he just had the mental toughness like a Tiger Woods or Jack Nicklaus there's no doubt in my mind he could have had 30 or 40 PGA Tour victories and several major wins.
He won two majors. He had great touch. Of course he had that swing and length. Great having a player like that in the modern game that is generally so colorless
I doubt Daly’s legacy is primarily bunker play and putting. I would argue that John’s “best shots,” were drives, as they were signature shots that few, if anyone could reproduce.
Dont watch golf but SC Reviews mentioned how cool he was so checked this out. More of a snooker fan here in England and he reminds me of the super cool, talented Jimmy White.
To be able to party nonstop and still be a master of your craft is a very special thing. Im mot a big golfer ( i dabble) but it dont matter the sport, the man is a ledgend

he won the British.

Bill Coyne only player I ever followed if he was on the course.
Yes, he is a odd one, sorely needed in golf. Been trough a lot, but with a big heart.
Couldn’t agree more
Well said
John Daly is absolutely pure raw talent. His swing is so relaxed and natural!
U can see right around '96 he started lookin like "Big John."
He was Big John the day he was born
I literally looked at this comment as I realized he looked bigger in ‘96
The year after his Open Championship
6 foot 6, bout 235
Kinda broad at the shoulders
Narra at the hips
That lifestyle catches up
3:26 on god I thought he was in a sleeveless shirt 🤣 it's undoubtedly something the legend would do if he could
So did I and I wasn't even surprised
