Jeep CJ windshield install (Fail)

To be clear I did in fact get the windshield installed. However my DIY attempt to mount my own glass did not work. I threw in the proverbial towel and went to a glass shop. I know it is possible but at the end of the day I was quoted $300 for new glass installed in my frame with a seal.
I spent $50 on the glass plus about $39 on the seal and drove about 3 hours one way to buy the second hand windshield. This does not pencil out, I don't care who you are. Sometimes I find I am stepping over dollars to pick up dimes.
