I was in the Army from 1969 to 71 in West Germany. I was in Denmark France, Spain but the most beautiful country I have ever been in was Switzerland. Travel by train from France through Switzerland to Spain, Costa Brava. Switzerland was the most beautiful country in the entire world as far as I'm concerned.

A whole lot of land space, great sceneries, alot of mother nature, awesome. No taxi means no combustion , the air is clean, I can just imagine inhaling that clean fresh air into your lungs.

Beautiful. I took this route 45 years ago. The train was old with passenger cabins and comfortable upholstered bench style seats that folded into four bunks, two upper and two lower. It was like the trains in the old Agatha Christie movies. The dining car was WWII era. The train station had one foot in the last century. The handsome young Swiss military men often had long blonde ponytails and looked sharp in their uniforms as they traveled by train. Any 21 year old girl would enjoy that scenery. I still have vivid memories of the train trip. The 7 mile long tunnel through the mountain was a shock. I can't imagine a 30 mile long tunnel now. What a feat of engineering.
My family heritage is Swiss, my great-great grandparents came from there to Wisconsin - so I have always wanted to go, NOW I really want to go! Just beautiful! Thank you so much for this video your others about Switzerland!

The beauty of the country, the houses in pristine condition, the cleanliness all around makes it God's place on earth. I left Germany 60 years ago and know why (lived for 40 years in Florida). Usama Fayyaz It’s very hard to put exact dollar figure, assuming you hold US dollars That’s all depends on a number of factors such as 1)where you are travelling to Switzerland from, 2) what quality of hotels you are looking for , 3) if you are gonna be doing shopping or just some souvenirs, 4) how many cities or towns you wish to travel 5) if eating in restaurants and visiting bars. So it is not an easy question to answer. Since you are thinking of travelling with someone else I suggest you calculate the upper cost of things so not to disappoint the other self. So look for hotel or Airbnb costs, airfare, 10 day train Swiss rail pass , food cost for 10 days including restaurants and some money for cute souvenirs and chocolates. So as I said since you plan to travel as a couple it’s best to be safe and have some extra cash for unseen expenses. I’m sure you have travelled to Europe before and if so you can expect Switzerland little more expensive than let’s say Paris. I hope you have a great time if you decide to go and feel free to write me again.
Usama Fayyaz That should be more than enough if you spend wisely. Get your Swiss rail passes for sure for however long duration of the visit. It is necessary if you gonna travel inside Switzerland which I think you should. It’s just that you have choices for the train passes. Make your decision according to your itinerary. I say it’s good to have the freedom to move any day and everyday. Therefore a pass for the whole 10 days will be great. Let’s say you are in Zurich , you can use the pass for the street cars too. It’s just that with the pass you don’t worry about transportation. There are so many small towns both in German as well as in the French speaking parts. Try to go light so you can move about easily. Maybe a large backpack. I don’t know the choice is yours. But I certainly would go light and anything you buy there, since there are 2 of you, the other person can help carry. So go light I’d say. Wear good hiking shoes since you would be doing lot of hiking. So one good all around shoe. You would need light bu warm jackets if you gonna go to visit top of the mountains. Visiting Switzerland the mountains are a must. So don’t forget light but warm jackets. Go easy on spending so you money can last and more. When are you planning to visit? So you can check for the festivals.

Usama Fayyaz Anytime is good in Switzerland, however Winters are mainly if you like snow related sports but even then it’s nice to visit. So you are good to go anytime weather is fair. It’s all up to the individuals taste. I personally like it when it’s nice and bright and pleasant to walk about . For the first visit I would avoid winter visit unless one is a skier. Sometimes it rains but then that’s why it’s so nice and green and fresh. Have an umbrella handy or a thin rain cover of some sort

I personally never knew anything about Switzerland, what a BEAUTIFUL PLACE. We have two streets in New Iberia Louisiana one by the name of Lucerne & the other by Interlaken that’s the only thing familiar in the video. I've not yet to be able to travel outside the United States except when I lived in San Diego for 13 years and went to Tijuana a lot and Tecate and Ensenada. Hello Mr. Callan, This is one of the best travel film i have seen. Fell in love with the way you cover things and places. The effort you have taken to cover all the major parts of the country in a short span of time. The commentary adds flavor to your video. Learnt that a country can be covered by railways (be it trams or trains). I would say this is one of the epic video coverage on any country. These kind of videos help the travelers to plan for their trips. Wish you could do more such videos. Thank you.
The best way to see Switzerland, IMHO, is by motorcycle avoiding cities and riding the smaller roads and stopping in smaller villages. You get the flavor of the country rather than a packaged experience.
They have two Tramway operators, green for the City and yellow for the countryside. Basel is on the borders of Germany and France and is the Home of NOVARTIS and ROCHE.
Thoroughly enjoyed the video. very informative. I visited Switzerland in September 2015 for a brief period of 4 days. Visited some of the most memorable places like Mt. Titliss , Zungfrouzoch, Engelberg, Zurich, Geneva etc. Would like to visit again and specially travel through Swissrail, whenever the opportunity comes.

Places you may want to include for your visit in Switzerland. If you're interested in the history of Switzerland, visit the Swiss Natinal Museum in Zurich next to the main station. If you want to see how life was in the years of about 1300 to 1800, visit the Museum of Ballenberg next to Meiringen in the canton of Berne. There are older Houses from all over Switzerland and buildings like a mill, an bakery. And if you don't have enough time to visit ecery region, in Melide un the canton of Tessin/Ticino you can visit the Suisse Miniature, where you can see many models of buildings, monuments, etc.

The effort you have taken to cover all the major parts of the country in a short span of time. The commentary adds flavor to your video. Learnt that a country can be covered by railways (be it trams or trains). I would say this is one of the epic video coverage on any country. These kind of videos help the travelers to plan for their trips. Wish you could do more such videos. Thank you.

The best way to see Switzerland, IMHO, is by motorcycle avoiding cities and riding the smaller roads and stopping in smaller villages. You get the flavor of the country rather than a packaged experience.

When you were at Claraplatz in Basel you were already in the old town. The city center is on both sides of the Rhine-River.
They have two Tramway operators, green for the City and yellow for the countryside.
Basel is on the borders of Germany and France and is the Home of NOVARTIS and ROCHE.

Thoroughly enjoyed the video. very informative. I visited Switzerland in September 2015 for a brief period of 4 days. Visited some of the most memorable places like Mt. Titliss , Zungfrouzoch, Engelberg, Zurich, Geneva etc. Would like to visit again and specially travel through Swissrail, whenever the opportunity comes.

If you're interested in the history of Switzerland, visit the Swiss Natinal Museum in Zurich next to the main station.
If you want to see how life was in the years of about 1300 to 1800, visit the Museum of Ballenberg next to Meiringen in the canton of Berne. There are older Houses from all over Switzerland and buildings like a mill, an bakery.
And if you don't have enough time to visit ecery region, in Melide un the canton of Tessin/Ticino you can visit the Suisse Miniature, where you can see many models of buildings, monuments, etc.
