I love seeing Rick on the Bargain Channel - so self-assured, so smooth and in his absolute comfort zone - king of his castle. It's such a shame he couldn't just work there all the time! :)
So, as for comparisons to Curb Your Enthusiasm: Larry David, for all this nonsense, usually honestly believes what he does/says is the correct thing to do, except when he's trying to undo something, whereas Rick Spleen is, essentially, a horrible, self-centered person. I think Wiki or someone called him a compulsive and incompetent liar, which is spot on. He's his own worst enemy.
Yeah his character is more similar to George Costanza, living a life of lies, than Larry David. Larry mostly only lies when he is pulled into it by Jeff otherwise he says what is on his mind. Although I'd say he is more of a misanthrope and jealous than George.
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam ." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window ? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically across the plains?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"
Rick asking Marty to explain making the sign of the cross? I wish that was a joke! When footballers bless themselves as they run onto the pitch, I can imagine kids asking their fathers "Wot's vat all about?" AND THE FATHERS NOT HAVING A CLUE. The shiny post-faith world! Truly England is screwed.
Best response ever, to Clive, at the end !!!
Every man has his breaking point !

Big Suz is a winner.

Exactly. Larry David possesses Jewish warmth and values while Jack Dee... doesn't.

Thanks for posting. Hands down, Communication Problems remains the funniest 33 minutes of comedy ever written and performed. No competition🎉❤

I know it's a comedy but I can't help but feel that whatever company made that TV would of just sent him out a new one.
Excellent point
Marty IS a bit creepy and off-putting but lucky he was there to shout 'Rick' repeatedly when Rick was choking.
Rick is as unlucky as Basil Fawlty for all his faults he is unlucky to be surrounded by assoles . With the exception of his lovely partner.
I think she's the worst character in the programme, so smug and up herself, she's the only one who doesn't make me laugh!
