Unfortunately some of those areas council should be allowing more rec hunters who would give their left nut to be in there to put meat on their families table instead of wasting rate payers dollars "controlling" deer that arent even in high numbers. I hunt this area found one of those carcasses left to rot. Not a dig at you mate more so the pen pushers in council.

I understand where you are coming from... I’d be in the same boat if I was local. But you can’t say a mob of 7 deer is result of a low animal population! Also when undertaking ground work it’s quite obvious the flora and fauna are on the back foot. Many of theses deer that were shot, were gifted to NZDA and members of community. Even with rec-hunters, management or control is still required. At the moment hunters can’t manage the insane deer number all over the country. Cheers

@@gonebushnz im kind of over "hunters". They often seem to be farmers of animal's. If you see a mob of deer then shoot the lot. I have video of 50+ in one mob and now that we don't have the proper tools it just gets harder to do the job. I was saving up for an ar10 or equivalent.

@@gonebushnz Interestingly never had any luck with Buckshot, & a couple of the full-time commercial shooters shared that opinion. Most of the DoC shooters used it, being the exception was criticised then by some. The number of carcasses at the works with old pellets told a story too. Ok if you put the wad in them but found at that range the FN with aimpoint was as effective, & way ahead over about 30-40m & anything of size. Seemed to be getting what was aimed at here, so it did the job, and many critics have "limitations" (not with their expertise on hunting though, watch TV & much YT...)

I'd be happy as fark just to ride in the chopper and watch lol
Culling is absolutely necessary.. Those who don't understand or worse hate on culling simply are out of touch with reality.
From what I've seen after culling on the ground in Wairarapa... There are mobs of over 50 reds absolutely decimating the farmers crops and paddocks... Then go into the native in those areas and it's bluntly obviously how much damage the deer are doing in there.. And then there's the Fallow population as well.. It has to be done and the truth is ground hunters simply can't keep up with Aerial capabilities.
