Hi guys, I hope you read this . I made an error on this very tutorial when I was drafting the back piece because I copied the outline of the front pattern. Please don’t do this but rather use the formula Hip ÷ 4 + 1” to draft the back piece . That is you divide the hips into 4 mark this measurement and then come out of the center back line and add 1” For more illustration ,please kindly follow this link ( UPDATED ) Pencil Skirt With Hip Contour | Corrected Version | Sewing |Cilla Si ua-cam.com/video/KJmxowQyhbs/v-deo.html and go to 5:15 on the video to see how I corrected the mistake on the back pattern . I do Apologise for this error thanks for watching.
Thanks so much. I followed this and discovered my hip was short at the end. I was actually coming to draw your attention to this error but discovered you have mentioned it. Thanks for all you do.
I just want to say a very big thank you. Drafted this yesterday as a skirt to my surprise very easy to draft. Sewed the skirt in the evening and to my amazement, it was the best fit I have ever had. This is my first time following a video to sew and I am proceeding to trying more videos on your channel
Your tutorial is very much helpful and beneficial to me. Am glad to learn from you the way you measure the hips and the allowance method. I was very much behind on this one now you have sharpened my idea, Thank you so much 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Whatever you subtract from the front please add it to the center back . Or watch this video ua-cam.com/video/KJmxowQyhbs/v-deo.html cos there’s a slight mistake on this one
The one inch subtracted from the front will be added to the back side of the skirt. i.e Front,= hip/4-1 Back= hip/4+1 I think that's bcs back is bigger than front.
You are such a gem, and you teach so well. Thank you for this video. Is there a possibility of you sharing the pattern making for a Victorian corset one of these days?
I've been watching tutorials for 2yrs you have been the best and in only a week of watching your videos i fixed many of my pattern mistakes. Please can you explain how to determine the length of the darts. My hips are 52inch but waist is 36
@@themissdeeshow I don’t find those formula accurate so I don’t use them But on an average just use 9” Make sure you read my pinned comment on this video a correction was made
Hi Nengi thank you for leaving a comment . Please check out this link for the correction I made for this video Here is the link ua-cam.com/video/KJmxowQyhbs/v-deo.html
I’m glad you saw the mistake thank you so much and I am really sorry about it . I am already editing my next video which is an update of this video to make the correction. Was thinking of deleting the video but I was hoping someone sees the error . Well, the calculations are correct, it’s just the way I applied it when drafting the back pattern that’s wrong I am not suppose to copy the front pattern. I’m supposed to draft the back first by using “WAIST ÷ 4 and HIPS ÷ 4 “and and then come out on the center back line on the hip line to add the 1” I subtracted from the front . Which makes the formula (Hips ÷ 4 +1) correct. Your own formula is also correct but that would be that you are only removing ½” from quarter of the hips measurements and adding it to the quarter of the back hips which is still fine . I made this points on my forth coming tutorial already which will be up this week . Thanks again

Thank you so much, the the best. Have learnt a lot watching your tutorials. Eye opener that's what I call them. Love you😘😘😘
God bless you for this wonderful tutorial ma'am.
But why did you substract 1 from the hip measurement after dividing by 4? Thanks

Well done, ma. Can you pls make a video on how to take the required measurements for this tutorial 🙏 ?
Great job. My question- on ur hip point line, u ÷ ur hip by 4 & subtracted 1. Can u throw more light pls? Won't it shorten d hip of d skirt
The one inch subtracted from the front will be added to the back side of the skirt. i.e
Front,= hip/4-1
Back= hip/4+1

I want to know if I'm making a dress with waist seam do I need to still slope the cf of my skirt pattern or should it remain straight
I would rather you leave it. don’t slop the waist because it takes a funny shape after sewing
