Dude imagine being a bass player and having Christan FREAKING McBride go "uH" and "mhhm" during your solo. Like heaven has been unlocked after that.
facts
sorry to be so off topic but does anyone know a method to log back into an instagram account?
I was stupid forgot the login password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me!
@Landon Jay instablaster =)
I was spellbound by the dueling bass players! Hey, and I'm a trumpet player. Awesome
Same!
Christian Mcbride knows how to have fun at a gig while improvising 😂
Im trumpet too
The young bassist's grin at 7:28 is awesome...he just lived his dream. That's what music is all about!
People like Adam Neely keep saying that bass solos don't really do it for him, but for me that was f***ing brilliant!
Also, big props to the production staff here. The quality of that really allowed this thing to shine.
I kind of agree with him but with the exception of Christian Mcbride and John Patitucci. Those two guys are the only bass players that actually solo as well as horn players.
Would you add Jaco Pastorius in there, or is he not counted because he's electric?
There were bass players doing great solo stuff before him (Jimmy Blanton and Slam Stewart come to mind), but for sure when N.H.O.P arrived on the scene, the whole jazz bass scene accelerated up a few gears.
I would say the fact that he was more jazz fusion than traditional jazz kinda negates him. The electric thing kind of negates him cause the electric is a lot easier so solo than the upright, but the main thing is the jazz fusion v.s. traditional jazz
Fair enough. In my mind anyhows he was a great jazz bass player, but you're absolutely right about where in that space he sits. In any case, it really is nice to hear extended jazz bass soloing.
you could definitely hear the convo between the bass players
That Bass duet was absolutely nuts

The dueling bass soloists is possibly one of the greatest moments in music history... speechless.
The duell between "dem basses" was unique and worth the whole video along with the drum s solo!!!
Well damn, I need to go practice...
Dear Mr. Heffner, You are superb bass player, and your solo lines are too marvellous for words...
I've seen him play live twice and I must say I've never seen a jazz bassist capture a crowds attention quite like he does!!! The on festival I saw him at another ensemble's bassist defineley was subject to the stereotypical "people start talking at the bass solo" but not McBride! Props to that kid for trading bars with him!!!! I would have been scared to death even though I admire the guy and know how friendly he is!
Hearing the horns struggle with that last (difficult) phrase of the melody makes it all the more impressive that McBride and the saxes nailed it (especially that bari sax).
Kyle on alto sax is swangin nicely! Everyone is in the pocket. The bass trading was fire too.
Kudos to Heffner for holding his own with Christian McBride. That was a hell of a dueling basses solo!
Is this technically a quadruple bass solo?
😂
Hahahahahaha
A double bass dual duel!
Man these N Texas lab bands kick ass and take names. WOW.....great job
Probably the best Bass duel of all time, they feed off each others playing and energy perfectly
That bass duet!!!! oh my gosh amazing!!! I screamed YEAAAAHHHH and started laughing joy, and the crowd right after, you just hear like a million people scream YEAH simultaneously super funny!
These are the greatest, most tasteful upright bass solos I've ever heard….and I'm a bass player…..these guys are wailing at light speed with complete taste and class.
Thats how you shread, jazz style
Every bit of this performance is just gold!
These brilliant and talented students of #UNTCOM show us that swinging jazz is soul medicine. Congrats to Alan Baylock

It’s totally by coincidence, but I find it hilarious how well the alto solo and the trumpet backgrounds line up at 1:58
Samuel Macaraeg not a coincidence man. It's called playing in the pocket.

диалог двух контрабасов закончился вничью. Для явной победы не хватило одному хватить другого контрабасом по голове
I came here looking to order a Christian wife from McDonald's.
