It is something in his voice and interpretation of song that make some of us to become so emotional that we can not restrain from crying. I even saw some male reactors on youtube crying on this song. It is a Chines song and Dimash had to learn it in only one week because every contestant had to sing one song in Chines language. Before this he never sing in Chines. Thank you very much to be on a Singer journey and I am glad that I can go with you again thru all his songs from last year. I never become tired of listening to all his songs, kind of addicted to what he do to me when I am listening him. I heard him singing live two times, in Cannes in May and in London in November. To think that Dimash was worried that the audience might not understand his accent, as he only had a week to learn the lyrics in Mandarin (and it was the first time he ever sang in that language!) It was a great achievement for him as well!

His London performance of this song began with an even longer and extremely beautiful section of his own composing. -- Dimash did not speak any Chinese at the time of his singing this song. He had a week's time to learn the lyrics from a phonetic transcription. And he did it in the Dimashian way -- exquisitely well.

It was just the wrong song for Dimash. After all I believe the winner was already chosen at the beginning of the show, that's why the producers needed to throw something to justify Dimash coming second.

The story of this song is about a young Japanese singer, who escaped (secretly) to China during WWII; she became beloved by the Chinese people, but when the war was over, her true identity was discovered, and she was deported back to Japan; she never saw China again. IMHO, this is Dimash's best performance, and my personal favorite. Dimash is incredible! Thanks for a great reaction.
I really enjoyed your reaction. Episode 5 is "Uptown Funk" and Dimash was pretty much forced by the producers of the show to sing it. He gave it a go but I don't think he was feeling it. For what it's worth, you have my vote to skip it.

I also don't think this song requires either background story or lyrics, though they don't hurt to know them. I think this is the case for every Dimash song save one, Episode 8: "Daybreak" where I found it hard to connect until I understood the inspiration for the song, after which it became one of my favorites. If the song resonates with Dimash, it will always come across in his performance.

Hello, Jason: I've waited for you to react to this song deliberately to let you know that I am on your journey through Dimash's music with you, and have been since your beginning. I, too, have a passion for music and have over 6,000 cd's from around the world. I do not care what language or genre, beautiful music is just that.
The reason I waited so long to let you know of my presence on your giant couch is because I needed to let you know of a few things coming up for you that I hope you will make a note on your spreadsheet (that's so me!) so you will not miss something very important in the near future.
#1. Episode 8, Daybreak: FIRST OF ALL-- MAKE SURE YOU DON'T USE THE REGULAR LINK TO WATCH THIS SONG. YOU ARE A HIGHLY INTELLIGENT GUY (cute, too. I'm old so I get to say silly things like that) SO I KNOW YOU ARE PERFECTLY CAPABLE OF TYPING IN - "DIMASH EP.8". YOU WILL SEE A PICTURE OF DIMASH WITH HIS CHEEK RESTING ON HIS CLINCHED HANDS. IT IS TIMED AT 4:47 (FOUR MINUTES AND FORTY-SEVEN SECONDS) THIS IS THE SAME VIDEO FROM THE SINGER AS THE ORIGINAL LINK, BUT IT IS ALSO THE ONLY VERSION OF THIS EPISODE THAT DOES NOT FREEZE AT THE CLIMAX OF THE SONG. IF YOU USE THE REGULAR LINK, THE VIDEO FREEZES AND YOU WILL LOSE THE FLOW OF THE SONG, SO MAKE A NOTE ON YOUR SPREADSHEET AND READ IT BEFORE YOU REACT TO THIS SONG. There are so many of us out here on this journey with you, I'm sure someone will tell you that Dimash lost his voice the day before this performance and had to be treated by a doctor who warned him to stay away from high notes. You can see the concern on the other contestants' faces during the performance. That, alone, makes this performance particularly spectacular, but the subject of the song is heart-breaking. Its the story of a little boy who was on a cable ride with his parents when the cable broke free and plummeted. His dad lived long enough to hoist him to safety before both he and the boy's mother died. The lady who wrote the song, eventually adopted this poor child and wrote this song about his nightmare experience and it's soul-rending heartbreak. Someone will probably send you to the link by Gloria Wu (goddess of all things dimash) who give the back story to this song and you will absolutely love it. But please, save that to watch after you react to the 4:47 version because Gloria uses the first link for her mini doc and has to edit the song to take out the place where the original freezes. Remember, the place that I'm sending you to is the exact same performance, it just is complete, so you don't have to worry that it is a different performance. (Save watching another performance during his Bastau concert after your Singer journey. He sings the same song but without the vocal problem and it is positively stunning!!!)
#2. Episode 10: Unforgettable Day. For this episode, the contestants had to perform a song that either they, themselves, had written or taken part in that process. Dimash performs Unforgettable Day which he wrote himself when he was nineteen years old so, make a note on that wonderful spreadsheet (Gadfry, I just love that!) that you will be listening to an original song he wrote and composed himself. Which is why all future dictionaries will have his photo instead of a definition next to the word 'music'.

I also don't think this song requires either background story or lyrics, though they don't hurt to know them. I think this is the case for every Dimash song save one, Episode 8: "Daybreak" where I found it hard to connect until I understood the inspiration for the song, after which it became one of my favorites. If the song resonates with Dimash, it will always come across in his performance.
Fantastic reaction JK - loving this Dimash journey with you! This one brought me to tears even though I've probably seen this performance now hundreds of times. Every time feels like the first time with Dimash he's such an awesome singer and performer. Like you I'm so glad I get to be alive at the same time as Dimash to hear this beautiful voice and be a part of his journey. Look forward to seeing you in NY for his concert - I'm coming from Sydney Australia - wouldn't miss it for anything! (P.S.
