I absolutely love this miniseries! I remember watching it with my family when it debuted. I was 18. I never understood why it wasn’t beloved like so many other miniseries of its kind. Funny thing the first time I watched it I didn’t catch the gay right away. Don’t ask me what I thought was going on at first. I’m small town girl from Kansas. The funny thing about that is one of the creators of the Pride flag is from my town. The town has been shutting down efforts to honor him. I’ve just discovered your channel. I’m subscribing! This is awesome!!!!
Actually they are pulling from more than 3 books. Dr. Fareed Bhansali is from book 11 and when they touched on Armand's story that is book 6. So it's at least 5 books.
I LOVE this miniseries! I watched it when it first premiered years ago. I agree that the voodoo and gay elements of the story are probably the reason why this film was not as popular as other movies of the same genre. I'm motivated to watch it again, its been a long time.
I had the pleasure of watching this series. I didn’t know that this actually existed. One of the things that surprised me was that the light skinned blacks had darker skin blacks working for them. It was a form of privilege being lighter. The is an awesome story. I wished I still owned my copy of it.
I came across feast of All saints years ago and I was so mesmerized by this documentary this film I was really intrigued it's a great piece of work I'm Craig Memphis Tennessee 901 lgbtq internationally known
Mulatto= ½ mixed race. One black parent. Quadroon= ¼ mixed race. One black grand parent. Octoroon= ⅛ mixed race. One black great grand parent. Any very light skinned individual was refered to as being "high yaller," (yellow). All of these are white named designations.
It wasn’t really a gay storyline. Marcel took the rumor of Christophe being gay and the need for a father figure and thought the affection was more than friendship and admiration. Christophe seemed more bi sexual and the victim of an older man taking advantage of him, but would not to the same to Marcel.
@@BohemianRhapsody324 nothing gay happened, it was a simple scene, and even the character described it as a need for a father figure. A storyline would be something continuous that moves along with the story being told.
Thanks. It was definitely one of my favorite miniseries. I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it. The cast is iconic and very beautiful.
Agreed and agreed 🥰💜
@blackgayhistorychannel You're doing good stuff. "As Proud Of Our Gayness As We Are Proud Of Our Blackness."
Anne Rice never disappointed!! RIP❤. Thank you for this. I don’t know any of my Black friends and family have seen this film let alone read the book.

I saw this miniseries when it originally aired over 20 years ago. I also own the dvds. I'm thoroughly enjoying your exploration.
Thank you so much! 💜
@@blackgayhistorychannelperhaps I missed it, but have you had a chance to see Dakan?
I loved Anne Rice's novel, didn't know about this miniseries. Thanks!
This miniseries needs a fresh reboot. Maybe AMC+ might end up doing it since they are currently doing 3 books of Anne Rice right now.

Yes, I've barely heard this movie brought up especially considering how stacked the cast is
I love this book! Anne Rice does historical fiction just was well as her vampire amd witch novels
Apparently I need to get into her universe, everything hits! 🤩
How funny I have never heard of the series!!! I have to watch it, IMMEDIATELY
I need to watch this movie again.
I had this on dvd. I bought it because I had heard Robert Ri’Chard was in it. I had a huge crush on him back in the day.
Same! 🥰❤️
I remember watching this on DVD years ago. Loved this movie and that it shows a different side of African American History.
I haven't ever heard of this movie before. Is there a copy of it I can see on Y.T?,Would love to see it. And the other one U talk about!

Loved it! Only wished that Marcel and Christoph did have a sexual affair. That was my only disappointment with the mini-series.
May I ask why?
You ought to read the book. Then you will realize how much the series fudged the gay theme. I hated the series in light of my favorite Anne Rice book.
Love this
The book is better, but the movie is GREAT!
I figured if the show is this good, the books gotta be juicy 👌🏿💛
Sounds very interesting.
Its a captivating story ❤️
I love gay interracial love. 🙌😍🏳️🌈🌈

That sounds like a gay storyline.
What is a gay storyline to you? Cuz everything you said points to a gay storyline
Huh??? What part of anything that you just described does not sound like a gay storyline??? 😂
