Awesome video Filip. I wish lower register harmonicas weren't so reedy/buzzy, & more sax sounding, but I guess we can't have everything. Congrats on your bass session 👍
Thanks! 🎶🎶🎶 Yes the bottom end gets reedy because there is no body for the note resonance in. But there are huge low end in this harmonica if I close mic it. I have a custom bass harp mic that works great. Good old SM58 works too but better with something more full range.
How many notes in a row you can play legato in medium tempo (like 90bpm?). I really enjoyed Otavio Castro playing jazz improvisation on bass harmonica in its upper register, pretty impressive
Do you know of any bass harmonica book or other resources for learning? I did a deep search and could not find anything, I just got the name of an old book that is nowhere to be found "Learning to play the Bass Harmonica, by Judy Simson-Smith(1984), Simson & Smith Publications". So, how you bass harmonica players go about it? Other bass instruments books? Any recommendation would be appreciated.
Hi! No, no ideas sorry. I played electric bass in high school, studied various jazz bass books. For technique on the bass harp I just try to emulate what I hear on recordings. The articulation is really important do remember to use your tongue for ta, ka, do sounds.
@@FilipJersMusic Hi! Thanks for replying! I'll look for a jazz bass book and pay attention to the articulation in my next practices. Are there only those 3 articulations used? Or they are an example? Somebody else told me to use Double Bass lines, I am finding them quite useful to start. I am working on Triads too. Hard instrument, it's a big challenge!!
I never knew these bases are only blow. Single notes really don’t sound very melodic on these instruments, but the moment they produce more than one note simultaneously it’s a beautiful sound. For single notes I guess FX can improve that. Good vid 😅
Nice to hear you on the bass again, Filip! I love playing the bass harmonica. I hope the session went well.
🎵😃🎵 Yes it went fine, thanks!
Holy wow that is a big bass harmonica! Just unreal!
🎵😃🎵
can you play the chord harmonica? If so, could you show us the technique of playing such a harmonica?
Yes shure! Good idea.
Thank you very much. I'll be waiting for the movie
I think they take a lot of breath too?
Yes!

Oh no idea, never measured. Depends on key, groove and expression.
