The big problem about buying merch is that there's A LOT of money wasted on shipping. It's easier for them (in terms of revenue), but not for you. For example: in my country her plushie costs around 20 dollars, but the courier bills me around 75 more (total = $95) in order to ship it here, so I'm actually paying more (almost x4 times) on the delivery rather than the product itself. On the other hand, superchatting is instant, it lets you give a more moderate tip and you don't get scammed by DHL or any other private courier.
As someone who follows hololive stats, the general trend for superchats is decreasing, while merch sales are increasing. It will never go back to Coco or Rushia levels of superchats. It also shows that cover corp is relying less and less from superchats. I'm gonna say, superchats = membership, in terms of overall value (not monetary value).

In any case, i'm personally happy to see the trend move from supas to merch, but i can definitely see why some people would prefer to have a large supa culture

My first superchat was to Suisei, she was streaming Tetris that time. It was only 50 pesos, if converted only about 1 US Dollar and it's in english and she took the effort to read it. That's what gotten me into hololive. I think that I'll never forget it.
Sui-chan really is the best. I can't imagine many other streamers let alone vtubers turning off donations because theyre happy with the money they have
Suisei is probably making TONS of money at this point. Turning off superchats can also help in the mental side of things since people can say quite disturbing things sometimes.
Suisei Merchs, the pinnacle of Hololive fandom. It is sold out almost immediately everytime it is issued, and finding reseller is almost impossible at normal price.
You say that like this has never happened before. They all have the say on whether or not they want to turn off superchats. Calli has turned off superchats mid-stream before, to stop them from raining money. And I've seen Miko stream a game she's not even allowed to monetize. No superchats. Just hours and hours of playing a game she enjoyed while hanging out with her chat. And it's not like a streamer turning off SC for a while is gonna hurt the company anyway, with how hugely successful they are already.
There are plenty of companies who would disagree bro. I still think it's amazing like what the op thinks. A company saying no to more money isn't really a norm. @SenseofNoneYT
if you think about it in a business sense, it actually helps cover get more profit from direct merch sales instead of SC cuts. 30% cut from youtube is a big number to see if you're doing the finances and turning those off and funneling it to your merch where both talent and company get everything? man that's a win-win if nothing else.
Well, cover definitely knows better than us, a bunch of random people on internet, about how to make money and manage the talents channels😂🤷 streaming (which includes sc) now is like 28% of Hololive revenue compared to 3 or 4 years ago when it was 50%. Merch, collabs and live events like the fes now are their main source of income and are increasing in % while streaming related income is decreasing year after year.
February March and April were brutal months for the wallets with all those birthdays fest etc. So a very respectful move from her. That's why you can't help but love that hardworking comet.
Moving away from superchats to merch sales is a very legitimizing thing to do. It's like going away from patreon and kickstarter. I don't think all the talents could afford to do this right now, but it is something cover corp should seriously consider for the future of their brand.
She must've been making good money even after all the 3D concerts she does, and banger MV. Most members went broke after getting an animated MV, or after 3D birthday concert.
*cough* 2 albums with physical copies in the form of CDs and Vinyls. After she went viral with BIBIDIBA I reckon that the sales of those two went up A LOT.
I don't superchat too much but it is probably the method I use most often compared to membership or merch. To me it is mostly because 1. Shipping adds a lot of hassle to merch 2. Merch is way more of a money committment than superchat. Moreover superchats are very easy to do. So if I feel like giving a little extra money I prefer using them (I am a member to three vtuber channels continiously but I am not able to justify to myself additional long term ones (even if individually they are incredibly cheap) and for some reason just joining for one month never felt right to me).
Excluding international sales and MGO sales, she has sold like 130k albums total in Japan alone, with no significant cuts given to any major music labels since she isn't signed to one. So yeah, rather than sending superchats which then gets cut by youtube by a significant 30%, better buy her albums instead, be it digitally or physically!
It’s the same reasoning that LTT makes with the WAN show and I respect that. I’ve never supperchated (I already pay google enough for Premium) but I’ve bought her two CDs and I’m buying her blu rays next month. It’s all I can do to support my favorite singer.
Basically instead of not getting noticed for sending me money and getting nothing in return, buy my merch, you get something and that also gives me money win-win from a win-loss. I win both ways but why not we both win.
Even when turning off a monetization stream she doesn't really need, Suisei doesn't stop the self promotion side of things. It makes sense though, because even beyond caring about her fans, from what I've seen of Suisei she really doesn't do the "I'm your waifu, give me money" angle in the first place, so telling people to buy merch instead is probably healthier for everyone involved for a lot of reasons, including people not breaking the bank on Superchats instead of getting a more reasonable amount of merch/membership. Definitely doesn't hurt that she gets a better return that way either, I'm sure, but having her music be what pays the bills is probably more fulfilling than just letting anyone with any intentions grab center stage as many times as their wallets will allow. tl;dr: I don't really follow her much, but her music is amazing and I'm glad she's doing well enough financially to be pickier about how the money comes in.
it's the proper and perhaps the more "ethical" ways on how Cover gain their cash flows after getting this big. relying on SC or Donations is acceptable for VTuber/Streamer that not capable of generating incomes through other means than their Live streams.
Time to let wallet-kun recover and save our money to buy her merchs instead xD Reminds me of a certain Iinchou who turned off her SC because she got enough from voice pack and merchs, wonder if she's still doing that
I can see that many fans use superchats to get attention from the Talent and a way to convey their message. Unfortunately many are borderline creepy or used for bad reasons. So depending on the Talent, sometimes there's just too many SCs that they need to make an extra stream just to read it. Especially if they are busy.
"I don't read them anyway" Half of this is joke. There's no way Suisei don't read super chat from her dear fan but recently she got harassed by malicious haters so I think she does it to protect her mentality. If she really don't read super chat then she shouldn't bother turning it off either.
It wasn't really a joke. We don't know if she read SC off stream and sometimes she read one that picked her interest but those are rare moments. She doesn't read sc on stream and don't have/do sc reading streams, it is even in her streams description.
She really doesn't read them, at least not in the way of those that do superchat reading streams. She just reads any comment be they regular or superchat that catches her interest but majority of superchats to her do go unread. It really isn't a defense against trolling kind of thing. She wants to focus on whatever she is doing, not needing dedicate time to superchats.
The fact that Suisei can turn off superchats is such a flex. Basically UA-cam just gets the views and ad time but aside from that not only Suisei, but Hololive and the Hoshiyomis are winning the most.
I'm guessing this is something like achieving ROI in normal business. All 'invesments' from Hoshiyomi's have got her to a stage that all the revenue other than superchats are enough to sustain her activities and receiving more 'invesments' just didn't sit well with her.
Superchats are the lowest source of income for vtubers (and youtubers in general) anyway since google takes a big cut, and the most part of their revenue comes from merch. It's a nice move from Suisei to turn superchat off if she doesn't need it. 😊
Part of me totally understand her side. Shes trying not to get on the GREEDY GROUND. But, i think she could do really great things using that extra cash, something that her fans might enjoy, like an animation of her, a music video, new merch, etc etc. In my case i would build a studio for artists to draw manga and animation.
I dunno how people don't understand this. Superchats are very bad for business. UA-cam takes a huge cut and the money only go to 2 other parties (talents and company). When you buy merchs, tickets, go to events, etc.; you're supporting a whole industry with hundred of thousands of jobs. Tldr: superchat bad for economy, merchs good. Go buy merchs.
Yea, merch or events pretty much support alot more, from talents, the company behind them, artist, shipping company, even org/ local venue. Cover also become more reselient in the long run incase youtube become more pain in the ass to use as a platform. The downside is when they started, most merch shipped from japan, which put more strains on the customer with their shipping cost. But now theyre started to consider putting branch aswell, so its easier and cheaper to buy merch now compare to when cover was starting.
@@Ins_lookmou Thinking about it, what bothers me more is that there's all this merch I want but can't have (because it's time limited). Most Hololive talents (and YTers I follow in general) are fine with people just watching.
I am sure it is because VTubers make a LOT more money off of selling their Merch rather than having UA-cam take anywhere between 60%-25% if you have a really good top-end deal with them and then Hololive also taking their cut for using their avatar and the myriad of overhead costs (I wouldn't be surprised if a VTuber only gets 30% of a posted SuperChat). But goods have far less costs since the manufacturing is mostly fixed and is like Pennies per item and then royalties to Hololive so a talent can get a lot more money.
Well, it's not that SCs are not profitable but of all the support it is somewhat the least. Since its been well know that only 30~35 of the amount is received by the talents giving membership is better and of course buying merch.
They should do something similar to how LTT is doing it. When they are live viewers can go to their store and buy something together with a message when they are streaming.

Streaming pays peanuts. It's more about the opportunities and sponsorships she gets
Man i love suisei shes so adorable
She wants us to buy da merch!
My first superchat was to Suisei, she was streaming Tetris that time.
It was only 50 pesos, if converted only about 1 US Dollar and it's in english and she took the effort to read it.
That's what gotten me into hololive.
I think that I'll never forget it.
She always read some chat that catch her eyes anyway so even normal chat got read usually it just gacha lol
If she opens it back, how can she read them all lmao. Superchats are flying like flash😅
Sui-chan really is the best. I can't imagine many other streamers let alone vtubers turning off donations because theyre happy with the money they have
Suisei is probably making TONS of money at this point. Turning off superchats can also help in the mental side of things since people can say quite disturbing things sometimes.
1:40 she has too much Yakiniku for her AYT. She's trying to save her meat source until next winter.
She cares about our wallets. This is the definition of *_"Suffering from success."_*
Suffering from success. Im so proud of the hoshiyomis and the Hololive fans in general.
That's all the encouragement I need to buy copious merch. Farewell paycheck-kun, your sacrifice will not be in vain
Shes so sweet i love her. Shes watching out for our wallet 😂
It's clip like that that reminds me why she's my oshi. After all this time she has not changed her mentality and I still just love her mindset
as much as i wish she could get all that she deserves, i really respect her for this
Merch is the most direct way around both youtube (distribution) and cover (publishing)
Same as it was decades ago
Buy merch!
Suisei Merchs, the pinnacle of Hololive fandom.
It is sold out almost immediately everytime it is issued, and finding reseller is almost impossible at normal price.
Wallets were in Ashita no Joe state, she's being very considerate and also I'm very happy for her, she made it through hard work!
Crazy her company will just let her turn off a source of revenue
You say that because you haven't seen Haachama trying to get UA-cam to stop monetizing her
if you think about it in a business sense, it actually helps cover get more profit from direct merch sales instead of SC cuts.
Instead of gifting me money, atleast get merch in return.
She is suffering from success and bein graceful about it. W for Sui
That is why Suisei is the GOAT!
I'm hella rich
-Suisei, probably
Hahaha my card got blocked because of gacha again
-Suisei, probably still
I mean UA-cam and Hololive do take a big CHUNK of the superchat so supporting her through another from where she gets all of it would be better
That’s what I call humble.
This information makes my heart feel warm.❤
She must've been making good money even after all the 3D concerts she does, and banger MV. Most members went broke after getting an animated MV, or after 3D birthday concert.
*cough* 2 albums with physical copies in the form of CDs and Vinyls. After she went viral with BIBIDIBA I reckon that the sales of those two went up A LOT.
smart thinking, superchats gets reduced by yt's cut anyway.
meanwhile merch gets you a cool suisei figure (and a broke wallet)
Personally I've never understood why ppl superchat so much, imo suisei is being very reasonable here
I don't superchat too much but it is probably the method I use most often compared to membership or merch.
So yeah, rather than sending superchats which then gets cut by youtube by a significant 30%, better buy her albums instead, be it digitally or physically!
o7 to superchats. You were fun way to interact with fellow community members
It’s the same reasoning that LTT makes with the WAN show and I respect that. I’ve never supperchated (I already pay google enough for Premium) but I’ve bought her two CDs and I’m buying her blu rays next month. It’s all I can do to support my favorite singer.
remember guys, by buying merch shes getting even more money because youtube cant take a cut from them. SO BUY MERCHS AND GIVE HER MONEY
Suisei merch is so nice and I always buy her album cds when they come out.
SSS Suisei Suffering from Success.
it's the proper and perhaps the more "ethical" ways on how Cover gain their cash flows after getting this big.
relying on SC or Donations is acceptable for VTuber/Streamer that not capable of generating incomes through other means than their Live streams.
Time to let wallet-kun recover and save our money to buy her merchs instead xD
Reminds me of a certain Iinchou who turned off her SC because she got enough from voice pack and merchs, wonder if she's still doing that
Meanwhile on the other part of the universe: "...1% of merch sales..."
As a true businesswomen, she knows that she gets a high revenue split from the merch than she does from the superchats. ☄
I can see that many fans use superchats to get attention from the Talent and a way to convey their message. Unfortunately many are borderline creepy or used for bad reasons. So depending on the Talent, sometimes there's just too many SCs that they need to make an extra stream just to read it. Especially if they are busy.
"I don't read them anyway"
Half of this is joke.
She doesn't read sc on stream and don't have/do sc reading streams, it is even in her streams description.
she don't read them anymore to preserve her voice, she said this before in stream. she did read superchat in the 2020-2021 era iirc
She really doesn't read them, at least not in the way of those that do superchat reading streams.
She just reads any comment be they regular or superchat that catches her interest but majority of superchats to her do go unread. It really isn't a defense against trolling kind of thing. She wants to focus on whatever she is doing, not needing dedicate time to superchats.
its not that deep, Suisei already stated why she turn off the SC, yet you still able to read it like she still got harassed
The comet is saying keep the SC low. So we can afford going to Holofes nxt year.
I didn't know i could love her and respect her even more than i already do. But here we are
Sometimes I feel bad for not superchating my oshi but I make up for it on merch. I need something to remember them by when I'm old.
Proud of her for saying it's enough. They must get a ton just from members and merch alone. Don't need UA-cam taking 30% anyway
1:03 I thought so. From merch to music, Suisei is raking those moolah. I'm glad my guess was spot on. 😊
The fact that Suisei can turn off superchats is such a flex. Basically UA-cam just gets the views and ad time but aside from that not only Suisei, but Hololive and the Hoshiyomis are winning the most.
Suffering from success moment
I'm guessing this is something like achieving ROI in normal business. All 'invesments' from Hoshiyomi's have got her to a stage that all the revenue other than superchats are enough to sustain her activities and receiving more 'invesments' just didn't sit well with her.
Superchats are the lowest source of income for vtubers (and youtubers in general) anyway since google takes a big cut, and the most part of their revenue comes from merch.
It's a nice move from Suisei to turn superchat off if she doesn't need it. 😊
Sui-chan disabled Super Chat to cut down on gacha addiction.
Lots of suisei merch indeed😅😅Thank you Suisei❤❤
I love how honest and directly she is
cute sui-chan!
The past 2 months was crazy for Hoshiyomi...
It's been so long that Suisei did karaoke streams that she went completely off my radar.
Suichan really cares for her fans 😭😭, shes so sweet😭😭.
If I could buy merch, that'd be my preferred method... but about all I can do is the music.
It's okay! Just do what you can. In the past, Suisei also said that even you're only watching her stream that already means you are support her.
@@Ins_lookmou Thinking about it, what bothers me more is that there's all this merch I want but can't have (because it's time limited). Most Hololive talents (and YTers I follow in general) are fine with people just watching.
god i wish one day i would be able to do this. Saying no to more money.
But goods have far less costs since the manufacturing is mostly fixed and is like Pennies per item and then royalties to Hololive so a talent can get a lot more money.
merch IS better on both sides tho..
(i mean suisei and the fans side)
you get something physical, she gets the highest % as support.
Oh god, Suisei's merch.
I only have so much space in my room haha. My favorite is her relax time, adorable af, I have her nendroid too, not much else though
It's actually just a sign of the horrors to come.
it's like when pokimane turned off her donation because she entered rich enough to turn it off status
"You can make less, make less."
"No one ever says that."
- from the movie The Big Short
Biggest net income for talents will always come from merch...
Not only in vtubing industry, this is common in general entertainment industry
Well...maybe not true for certain other vtuber agencies that only give 2% of merchandise profits to the talents
@@litrick5471 scam, grief, and black company are not considered in the context of my comment, thanks for reminding me tho
Buying merch is always the best way to support vtubers
Well, it's not that SCs are not profitable but of all the support it is somewhat the least. Since its been well know that only 30~35 of the amount is received by the talents giving membership is better and of course buying merch.
I'm glad Suisei's doing so well for herself :)
meanwhile on twitch a multimillionaire streamer calling her fans broken for complaining about her cookies being expensive
Multi-faceted version of suffering from success.
How humble 😌
They should do something similar to how LTT is doing it. When they are live viewers can go to their store and buy something together with a message when they are streaming.
I mean, glad she isn’t greedy and is fine living with how it is 👍🏻
Please don't make me work.
Its wild that she's making so much money that she feels bad about keeping superchats enabled, they make crazy cash from SCs.
"I dont read them anyway" Ohh, I seem to recall her reading one very special one in particular... Something about "mommy" if I recall correctly :)
