  • We know from experience that it is 'better' if two or three people are gathered in Christ's name to pray; but why is it so? How does the 'math of prayer' actually work?

    Most importantly, we pray for others because our Lord commanded it.

    I agree wholeheartedly, that we pray for others because we love them and Christ loves them! We are, therefore, in communion with the Lord when we love one another.
    And I will add the parables of the friend at night (Luke 11:5-8) and the persistent widow (Luke 18:1-8) may have some relevance here, as well as "From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and the violent take it by force (Matthew 11:12)."
    Christ repeatedly affirmed the power of persistence in individual prayer. He also prayed that the individuals of the church would become perfectly one (see the High Priestly Prayer, John 17).
    Glory to Jesus Christ!

    4:05 what about righteousness? “The prayers of the righteous one abounds much” or something along those lines?

    A problem that many non-Orthodox have is believing that a relationship with Christ is uniquely personal, and that their contact with other people bears no relation to their relationship with Christ or their salvation.
    When you consider that God IS love, then it appears irrational that God's love wouldn't encompasses us all, together.
    As the perfect love of God exists and flows between the persons of the Trinity, so His love passes between us all, and should be expressed to others and for others, in His name.
    This is why praying for others is a natural way to express that love.

    I've just started going to church and I would like to ask what is the relationship between ROCOR and the OCA in America. I know there is some past drama there.

      They are in full communion. That's all laity really need to know. Any drama between juristictions is the work of the devil, used to distracts leity in chatter. These things distract from things that we should be focusing on, so best to avoid it.

      The relationship is that the OCA and ROCOR are under two separate Primates, but are in communion with each other, as all Eastern Orthodox churches are. OCA was once under the jurisdiction of Moscow, and now it is autocephalous and only in the Americas with it's own Primate (Tikhon). Whereas ROCOR is under the Moscow Patriarch (Kirill) and in many countries around the world. The relationship between OCA and other Orthodox Patriarchates is more complicated as it is not recognized as autocephalous by Constantinople and several others. However, they do recognize their cononicity, and it is okay for all Eastern Orthodox Christians to commune in an OCA church.

    I have a question/ please can you make a video about repentance because I don't understand it properly and I'm worried because I don't know

    • @gillianc6514
      @gillianc6514 Місяць тому

      Repentance can have a slightly different meaning for Catholics and Orthodox. For the Catholics it is about being sorry for your sins and at least desiring not to sin again. For Orthodox, repentance is a constant turning towards God in everything we do. Similar yet different!

      @@gillianc6514 But my question or what I don't understand is how to do it right

      @@JesusistheTruth9 There isn't a method, it is about moving our thoughts into our heart and turning our heart to God in everything we do. It is our only task in life, it is what we are made to do. It affects everything from how we treat strangers, how we react to world politics, the food on our plate and the spider in our bathtub. That is why the Orthodox say the 'Jesus prayer' all the time, because we know we are not very good at doing this and we need God's help. Peace and joy and the overwhelming feeling of how pathetic you are at repentance will grow if your are dedicated to repentance!
