    Great review! I avoided AMT pedals for years because of negative reviews, but I regret that decision now. Their pedals are durable and well-designed, lasting for decades without any issues. I recently featured their TH1 (Tube Hall) in a video, and it stood out even with just a few seconds of use. Your review has encouraged me to look for more AMT pedals, especially this one. Wondering how good it could be doing with single coils.

    Excellent video! Thank you very much for this, I know how much work these videos can be to put together. Much respect. I bought a D2 on Craigslist after watching this video and used it live yesterday... It was nothing short of glorious! I ran it at 12 volts and used the preamp out into my Line6 X3 live (for effects only, no drive) straight into the front of my Peavey Classic 30. Both clean (with the CL boost on) and the distortion were amazing! A lot of people complain about the high-end "fizziness", but I love the texture and "hair" that it adds. It is thick, sizzly, and mean, and backing off the volume on the guitar gives a sweet, light crunch that still retains some of the thickness and texture. If you are on the fence about one of these, do yourself a favor and just buy it. You will not regret it.

      Hey! :) Thank you so much for your comment.
      Just wanted to share an idea: in case you are using the "PREAMP OUT", try the Peavey Classic 30's "EFX. RET." jack rather than the normal "INPUT". Basically, the idea of the D2 (and the rest of LA2 pedals) is to replace the Peavey Classic 30's built-in preamplifier. So, we've got to make sure that the signal (in your case from the X3 Live Multi-Effects Unit) passes by the internal preamp and goes directly to the power amplifier. Let us know, if that improves the sound in any way.
      There is no problem, if you still would like to use the Classic 30's clean channel (the "INPUT" jack): that's what the D2's "DRIVE OUT" output for :)
      Thanks again! Have a great day.

    I've got an S2. I can say that the pedal design fits it well, as with the other amps represented from the same tree. The Dumble, Marshall and Orange seem a bit out of place in their tone, not bad, just not as close to what they are emulating.
    Serious question, does anyone really prefer the Peavey, which was designed as a poor man's Soldano over the Soldano? The S2 is a such a beautiful, yet serious tone.

    Maybe it's AMTs cab sim technology ( or lack there of ), but they all seemed quite a bit fizzy.

      Hey, Wak! Thanks so much for watching and your thoughts!
      Yeah, we have used the "CAB. SIM." output with every pedal.
      So, it seems like the built-in cabinet simulator could benefit from a lower cutoff frequency.

    • @MeTuLHeD
      @MeTuLHeD 6 років тому +1

      Yep. I can tell you from experience, the cab sim is the weak link in these pedals. I have a C2 in my studio and it sounds killer with various third party IRs.

    • @mattmalone4702
      @mattmalone4702 5 років тому

      I agree, the cab sim doesn't do this justice. Hearing these nicely miced up with a nice amp would bring out the tonal differences. My C2 and M2 sound life changingly good through an amp!

    At last: a comparison of all LA2s with the same riffs! Great! I've been waiting for somethin like this for a while. The most Demos of the AMT Legend Amps Pedals are by Brett Kingman. These are great vids by themselves, but no good if you want to decide which one is the one for you, because he is frequently playing other stuff.
    So here my thanks to ToneZone for this great video!
    Which output did you use? CabSim?

      Hey, Sturmsaenger!
      Thank you so much for your comment.
      That's correct: we used "CAB. SIM." output and went directly into an audio interface.
      Love Mr. Kingman's videos: always great sound!

      ToneZone!
      I have to thank you for making such a great video!
      The CabSim output sounds pretty good. But I wonder what my E2 will sound with the new Pangaea CP-100 Impulse Response. Still not sure what other LA2 pedal I should get for a strong metal lead/solo sound. My M2 is a little too tame for this job to my taste... M2 seems to be more at home at Classic Rock and Hardrock. I'm still torn between P2 and Vt2... any suggestion?

    • @tonezone1081
      @tonezone1081  9 років тому +2

      Sturmsaenger
      Hey there! How's it goin'?
      Thank you so much for your support!
      The new CP-100 Pangaea is designed to play third-party Cabinet + Mic + Ambience Impulse Responses (IRs), but to tweak EQ, volume and reverb settings.
      There are quite a few free and commercial IRs and IR libraries on the Internet. Thus, you can simply download those libraries, software IR player plugin (check out the keFIR: www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Audio/Audio-Plugins/keFIR.shtml), play with them and LA2 pedals thru your favorite DAW and see, which IRs suit your taste and style best.
      Yeah, while M2 is great for Classic Rock type of sound, you will want to be able to add some more gain to get that thick metal lead tones. I would think of P2, R2, S2. Vt2 seems to be a bit mellow for the purpose for me.
      Hope, you'll find that to be somewhat helpful.
      Thanks!

    • @Sturmsaenger
      @Sturmsaenger 9 років тому +1

      ToneZone!
      Hey ToneZone, why is it that your M2 has much more Gain in the middle position than mine? I put a Fetto overdrive in front of the M2 and are now into Metallica/Megadeth/Slayer-Marshall-territory.
      But seeing your vid, I get the feeling, that your M2 could get there without a boost. I really like the Marshall-sound for its openness and high mids. What other AMT Pedal would to your opinion be closest to the M2 but with a tap more gain?
      From your comparison I think the S2 might be very close...

    • @tonezone1081
      @tonezone1081  9 років тому +1

      Sturmsaenger
      Hey, Sturmsaenger! How's it goin'?
      Thank you so much for your comment.
      Alright, we haven't heard anything about different revisions neither of the M2, nor of the rest pedals of the LA2 family, so, rest assured, you've got the same pedal as in the video.
      About the M2's gain setting: I'm thinking about the guitar pickups and its output volume difference, that heavily impacts on when the signal starts clipping.
      An external overdrive pedal in front of the preamp is very nice to have! I would start with all of the M2's knobs at noon and would try setting the Fetto's Drive control to ~9 o'clock (in order to ensure the Fetto does not distort signal too much), Tone - to 11-12 o'clock and the Volume control - to the setting, where the pedal would be slightly louder when activated.
      Yeah, we find the S2's tone is somewhat similar to the M2 and would try it, if wanted a wider tone palette than an overdrive pedal + the M2.
      Hope, this helps.
      Thanks again and feel free to comment the videos and contact us anytime!
      Have a great day today!

      Разница есть, конечно, но в аппаратах серии LA2 она не особо заметна. Это, конечно, не отменяет того факта, что звучат они хорошо. Просто были у меня одновременно R2 и D2. Я записывал звук через кабсим, импульсы, через CN-1. Разницы практически нету при одних и тех же положениях ручек. Чего, кстати, не скажешь о преампах серии LA1. Вот там действительно разница просто огромная в звучании.

I love the P2 sound so that will be a definate purchace After that either R2 or E2 or the S2. What would you sujests to accompany the P2? My plan is to use them in conjunction with the Cp-100 for live use

    • @tonezone1081
      @tonezone1081  8 років тому +3

      Hey, David!
      Thank you so much for watching and your comment!
      The CP-100 Pangaea is a great thing to use live, thanks to its endless possibilities of choosing a guitar cabinet!
      Besides the CP-100, I would suggest to accompany the P2 with a mid-boost/overdrive pedal (e.g. the Tube Screamer) to run in front of the P2. That would let you cut through the mix on solos and generally tighten up the bass frequencies and thicken up the tone.
      Hope that will help!
      Thanks!

    I wonder how R2 would do in front of a dirty amp channel... can they be used as traditional overdrives???

    • @tonezone1081
      @tonezone1081  8 років тому +2

      Hey, Dani!
      Thank you so much for your comment!
      Yes, all of the Legend Amps 2 Series Pedals have an output, specifically designed for use in front of an amp - the "DRIVE" output.
      However, it should be necessary to mention, that the R2 simulates the Red channel of a Mesa/Boogie Rectifier amp. There is a lot of gain! While you can actually set the pedal's GAIN knob in a low position, chances are it still will be more like a distortion, than gently overdriven sound. So, I would rather recommend to use the R2 in front of a clean amp channel.
      Dani, what do you think about trying a Tube Screamer type of pedal in front of your amp (dirty channel)? Generally, that would tighten up the bass frequencies and thicken up the tone.
      Thanks!

      Yeah they all sound completely different. I think my favorite was probably the B2, followed closely by the D2 and the C2. But all VERY different sounding.

    • @81giorikas
      @81giorikas 5 років тому +3

      I am going to say this politely (as you are not). They all ARE the same. The same pcb, some minor differences to emulate clipping and tonestack differences between many amps that in reality they are very similar themselves.
      In this demonstration, they sound very very alike. Only the O2 and maybe p2 and R2 sound kind of different...now put a krankestein vs a rectifier vs a diezel vh4 through the same cab (as these pedals suppose to do with their cab out). Even with tone controls at 12 o'clock I bet you'd have a world of difference.
      It's not that AMT didn't get these in the ballpark.
      But you have to take into account that they have to make money and they used the same "engine" for all of these, this is pretty much confirmed by forums that built pedals and have opened them up and traced the schematic. It's the logical thing to do to mass produce them under the same assembly line isn't it.
      And it is only their preamp anyway. When you will do that comparison of all those amps different tubes and power sections come into play which, is another electrical system under pressure anyway.
      AMT does a commendable job however they are far from perfect and in this case cab sim to blame or not, they sound terribly similar and that is the way it is.
      So it's your ears and mood that need tweaking...
