    Super nice pickups. I also focused on the horror titles but one that I always wanted was the infamous Crime Suspense Stories 22. Now way out of my price range.

    I wish I would have kept going back in the mid '70's when I first discovered E.C. comics.. I've accumulated about 40 issues.. but I would have kept buying them... too many other interests took their place... 4 years ago or so .. I WAS able to get every issue of MAD and PANIC.... I also own the complete Russ Cochran Library set... something like 16 sets...back when I was buying them in the '70's... i was able to get mine for an average of 25.00 each... I DO have some gems... like the very 1st Weird Science and Weird Fantasy issues... alot of early Fantasy issues..... I loved Orlando and Wally Wood.. I have the last Haunt of Fear issue 28 that you showed in your 1st video... I was especially attracted to it due to Bill Gaines.. Memorandum.. article on the inside fromt cover.. of that issue... I thought that was SO cool...

      Those were the days! I started buying ECs in 1981, those were nice prices (though they seemed expensive to me then)...I did eventually complete the New Trend and New Direction titles. The kast issue I needed was MAD #1 and I just git a nice copy last month from none other than Grant Geissman...and I've been upgrading the rougher copies, it never ends!

      upgrading comics... I have never been able to afford to do that... I wish I could... most of my issues are in between good-fine... my MAD 1 is right at good... no tears...no fading..... and the spine is attached.. but it has been read. .and it shows..
      most of my E.C.'s are in good to very good condition.. I have a couple of Fine.. copies... and most of my MADS and PANICS are in Fine
      those are the only two E.C.'s mags where I have the complete collection of. .minus some of the MAD specials, of course.. there were too many of those to keep track of..
      I have about 4 of the Squatronts..
      you mentioned Robert Bell.. Ha!.. I started ordering from him in 1971 when he was still in Hauppage, New York..
      I still have a couple of his price lists dating back to 1970...back then I was more interested in competing my Journey into Mystery collection... so I bought about 12 comics from him at $2.00 each..
      I would have been smarter to buy a couple Amazing Fantasy 15's from him..
      .at that time he was selling them for $8.00 each...
      Action comics 1 he was selling for $300.00

    I only realize now that EC horror comics are larger than standard comics of today. Is that right? I don't remember the single-issue reprints I bought in the 70's and 80's being any larger than standard comic size. Or am I imagining things?

    • @ecfan-addict9477
      @ecfan-addict9477 Рік тому

      They are significantly wider than modern sized comics. The reprints you bought decades later were not larger than standard comic size because it would have been cost prohibitive for them to print at the larger size. Bruce Hershenson looked into it for East Coast Comix and it would have been too expensive to do. What they did instead to accommodate the modern width was to shrink down the artwork.

    I purchased the "History of E.C. Comic".. by Taschen because I expected it to be very informative and comprehensive and exhaustive.. leaving NO stone left unturned in regards to the E.C. comic industry....what I ended up with was a massive oversized coffee table book.. with not many redeeming qualities... just a bunch of already printed photos...brief backgrounds...that had already been printed before... I would advise anyone thinking of getting this book.... unless you wish to collect every thing regarding E.C. and read and look at things already published before..... don't buy it..
