    I started my first colony last year (a lasius Niger colony) I settled them into hibernation... they came out dead.They were too drowsy to move into the new nest improvised them at the start of hibernation and does from a moody test tube.

      @EstheticAnts  2 роки тому

      Hmm that's sad. Next time don't move them straight after hibernation.

    just some advice from my experience, with large ants that spin cocoons I would put substrate so it's easy for them to spin the cocoons because my formica and campontus colonies that did terrible. compared to a queen with the substrate
    also the tar heel ants nest mini hearth is better than a regular testube because it's easier for larve to spin their cocoon in most cases from seeing this myself from over the 7 years of me ant keeping
    edit: tar heel ants is probably one of the only really good ant nests (that I know of) for campontus and also as I said above it's easier for the larve to spin their cocoon

    • @EstheticAnts

      I find hydrating it awfull same as the nest mate

    • @gamingwithjp7896
      @gamingwithjp7896 2 роки тому

      @@EstheticAnts true but the main reason is they do well during founding is because of larve are able spinning cocoons correctly (as well as later on in the colony stages)

    I found a Umbaratus Queen one time a couple months back but I didnt have any brood or anything to give her so I let her be. I could\ve maybe dig up some brood from outside but I decided not to.

    seeing the mecury nest again makes me think it might actually be very good for slow growers like ligniperda and herc 👀

    I have a colony of 2 lasius flavus queens in a tube with some brood one of them seems to be dying soon is it ok if I can add like more lasius flavus queens in with the remaining queen so they can live together or too late?
