Glad they updated it! When I was in 4th grade, I got a 10 year old video

Thanks for sharing! Your son's handwriting is really nice.👍 Wish I've found BJU press math sooner. We've been using Horizons math since 2nd grade, and my dd is doing well. It is also spiral approach, however, I really do like BJU math's mastery & spiral approach in one. I like how they have grouped and laid out the topics by chapters then infused it with reviews. Although Horizons math is really good, I feel BJU press does a better job in organizing the topics, and that's what I wanted to add in my dd's math next s.y. to have that visual organization of math concepts while maintaining the reviews. Blessings!

I also love the layout and mix of spiral/mastery. I hope it will be a good fit for you guys! I’m so glad the two videos were helpful and I so appreciate you watching and commenting!

Do you incorporate facts review separately? Our Math 4 box arrived today and I'm reeling at all the components to somehow stay on top of for each lesson, all the black text in the teacher's manual to somehow read in the midst of teaching, etc. 🥴 Coming from math from Christian Light Education, where the lesson, worksheets, and facts review are incorporated into a single workbook and there are no manipulatives, extra charts, or separate books, I'm terribly unaccustomed to all the juggling and planning BJU seems to entail. Yet I *would* like to try to take advantage of BJU's mastery/spiral blend (whereas CLE is spiral and a very tight one at that, hence our switch). Any tips for a hyperventilating BJU beginner? Thank you!

First off, praying you overcome these feelings of overwhelm. I know how it is jumping into a new curriculum, especially after using one you're so familiar with. I only ever bought the workbooks and teachers guide. I used the teachers guide very sparingly. I found the level 4 had quite a bit of sufficient teaching within the workbook page lesson itself at the top. I only used the teachers guide if I felt I need more explanation or better examples. Also, if he got overwhelmed by the amount of problems, I would just choose every other problem and he would complete those. We have actually moved on to a different curriculum, per his request. He wanted more games and hands on activities. But I have actually found, that BJU math took less time and thought than the majority of other math curricula we have used in the past, such as the Good and the Beautiful, Math with Confidence, Math Lessons for a living education, etc. I hope this was helpful and not MORE overwhelming for you! Please let me know if you have any other questions, I will do my best to answer!!

As far as math facts go, we did use flash cards or fact worksheets with BJU math, as an extra supplement. We are also incorporating things like xtra math or fact games on my phone for him to do independently as I work with his brother. We have been using Math Facts that Stick from Kate Snow this summer independently to try to solidify them before jumping into his new Apologia 5 math. Again, I hope this has not overwhelmed you further. My son has ADHD, so long lessons and lots of extras was very overwhelming to him, so we came at BJU math from a very simplistic approach.
