First of all, they willingly kissed at least once. The one where they both kissed each other, was when Xena was possessing Autolycus, and she even put his hand on Gabrielle's butt. The others were mostly one-sided, saving Gabrielle, saving Xena.

@@fuzzyx2face I mean, if you rewatch the pilot, the way she said "no" is...not the way you'd actually expect Xena to make her point clear if she actually means business. Her "you don't want to make me mad do you" legit sounds almost flirtatious in comparison to how Xena speaks when she really wants people to obey her out of genuine fear.
That said, the other thing going on with Xena re: Gabrielle in the early seasons is that Xena truly doesn't believe she's going to be good for Gabrielle in the long run. She won't admit how much Gabrielle actually means to her (watch her go absolutely crazy with hysterical unaccepting grief when Gabrielle "dies" in the S1 finale vs. her succeeding perfectly well with sad stoicism when she loses supposed "True Love" Marcus"), and imo that's because, while she can't bring herself to turn Gabrielle away even though she genuinely believes that Gabrielle will be better off without her, her conscience at that point is demanding of her that she makes it as easy as possible for Gabrielle to just leave should she take a notion to do so.

Yes they are lovers. They kiss up to three times in the series. When they say “I love you” to eachother most the time it has romantic implications. They are soulmates in cannon and in season 5 and six they are married in there reincarnations.

The question isn't _whether_ , only _when_ (which is what I will always believe Xena answered when the sound cut out at the end of "You Are There". "Technically" [the exact time they became lovers] . . . but we were always in love from the moment we met." That's my headcanon anyway!)
True, true. Them becomming lovers at some point was obvious. I mean, it always was for me but that episode, that moment and the way they 'avoided' or 'talked' over the explicit question, already gives the answer they are. Otherwise, they would casually answer a simple 'No' and move on. Not even speaking about their faces and glances they made to each other. Or the sub/main text parts in for example season 6 where Xena saved a religious virgin or something whom wanted to 'hug Xena to thy bosom' and Xena pushed her away, pointed to her chest and said 'These are spoken for' I mean, how blind can some people be? xD Or Gabrielle giggling as she thought Xenas 'clamy' feet were rubbing her inside the sleepingroll on her birthday, where Xena played pranks on her all day. Or when Gabrielle and Xena might settle in that Amazon village and the Amazons get into the Queens yurt to ask what punishment Joxer gets for being a piping tom and Gabrielle startles awake with a 'Not tonight' xD Or the whole glances and talk about lovers in the sauna hut that same epsode xD And many, many more ;)

I'm a 34 years old Mexican man and I watched many episodes more than 20 years ago when I was a kid... it's obvious they were a couple, I refuse to believe they were just friends because many interactions would've been too close to have any sense... I even remember a musical where both characters were singing about their feelings...

Both lead actors and writers of the show have confirmed it, so isn't that enough to settle the issue? And even if you didn't know anything about the show, take it at face value: do you know many straight female friends who are openly kissing, touching, caressing each other and making baths together, like Xena and Gabrielle did?
Remember folks, these were the 90's and the show was under heavy censorship from the studio on this matter, so the writers tried to keep things under the radar, hence all the subtext which in the end became maintext. And we couldn't be happier :)

A kiss that’s filled with eternity, but ends almost instantly when the Royal Roman Guards storm in and forcefully pull them apart.”
The producers ultimately decided to remove this kiss (remember this was a very different era in television and this WOULD have been controversial to show without an "out"), so it was replaced with Xena, about to be condemned to death, gazing at Gabrielle and telling her, "I'll love you forever."
But yeah, I don't think it was only the viewers who were seeing this. Or confirming it.
