Thanks! I appreciate the support. It’s been doing great since last year when I put everything back together. It’s been a reliable daily driver. I even took it on some trails last spring and it performed flawlessly. Not too bad for having 275k miles on the clock.
When I first got my Toyota LC100 It also had maintenance issues . It had a bad clunk when putting the transmission in forward and reverse gears . The first thing I did was replace the 3 front differential bushings . Big difference . Then I replaced the front wheel flanges . They are splined and fit onto the end of the CV axle shaft . The splines eventually get worn and there is more play between the parts , so apply grease on the splines when fitting . I then greased the drive shafts and the clunk was barely present . BIG Improvement after all that . I would like to share another big improvement I did , ...this one on my gas mileage . Change out your Fuel filter . Mine is under the hood mounted on the fender . It was so clogged that I wanted to sell the car soon after I bought it , even at a loss . What a big difference after I changed it . I love driving the car now .
Hey. Thanks for the comment. Good call. Probably will replace those front bushings at some point in time. I don’t know if you have watched any of my front suspension series, but I replaced all front suspension components recently. I still have the video to edit of putting it all back together. One of the biggest helps for the clunk for me was tightening all my drive shaft bolts. Made a huge improvement. Just like you, I replaced my fuel filter bc I didn’t know when it had last been done. It was nasty. Replaced with a Wix and it’s been just fine. Plenty more projects to go on my 100 until I get it to where I’m satisfied.
Good Luck on your project and Thanks for the tip on tightening the drive shaft bolts . I'm on it first thing in the morning as well as new grease in the drive shaft joints .
I have a 2004 and have the clunk when shifting between forward and reverse and also when there is a weight shift like braking or accelerating but not always. Its been bothering me a lot. I have had the front differential bushings replaced and still no luck. The drive shaft is next on my list. I really hope I can get it resolved. The clunk makes me hate my car even though I love it! I'm even thinking as far as replacing the drive shaft but hopefully greasing will solve the issue for me
The clunk still remains although it is less noticeable. Besides greasing my drive shaft and joints, I tightened the driveshaft bolts which had loosened. All of that helped but at almost 300k miles there is still a little clunk. I could replace bushings along the driveline, but I’m not overly concerned with it at this time.
Not an LC but on my last XJ I had a pretty bad clunk going into gear when switching into gear for me it was my pinion nut. Couldn't tell you how it backed it self out and it wasn't far off (20ish ft lbs) spec but I tightened it up and it completely went away! Maybe check that next! Awesome video!
Thanks! I will definitely check that out this week. My friend told me to check my transmission mount and engine mounts which can mimic this same issue. Appreciate the info!
Keep that LX rolling 👍💪🫡

Thanks! Best of luck with yours as well.
@@23chnge I replaced my fuel filter and didn't see any change in MPG. Not sure what he was getting before, but mine before and after averaged 15mpg.

That grease fail was funny
Thanks. My wife got a pretty good laugh out of it too.

My first thought was “why didn’t he edit that out?”
I try to be as transparent and honest when doing these jobs. Also, maybe someone else won’t have it happen to them.
Have you been able to completely eliminate the clunk since then? I have the same clunk on mine and am looking into ways of fixing the issue

Oh you know a lot. You’re just modest.
Why did you not show what you were doing in real time instead of going high speed with crazy music .......
