Bakersfield has a very high crime rate. You have the sureños and East side crips , then you have a lot of catalice converters being stolen & summers are getting even more hotter.

Thanks for your input! Every place has its own crime rates that can be concerning, and it's important for everyone to stay aware of their surroundings. Summer heat is definitely a challenge too. What do you think could help improve the situation in Bakersfield?

Nothing can fix California government. Getting out of LA County is a must. The open farm land looks great.

I hear you! Many people feel that way about the government and the challenges in LA County. The open farmland does have its charm, though! Have you found any favorite spots outside of the city?

Now I get the point of these videos, which is to sell Bakersfield. There is a lot of information which has been missed on this particular video. Id, like to clear some of it having lived here for 20 years with family from this area. My own late mother used to work the fields where I reside in the southwest. If you were raising kids, the southwest can be a very great place to send your kids to school with a very good schooling system in the Panama Buena Vista District. I’ve enjoyed clean streets, beautiful parks, and the convenience of living near anything you could desire from a suburban community. If you know where to visit and know where to stay and especially know where to purchase, it can be a great experience. If you don’t know, you could find yourself in gang infested neighborhoods with extremely high crime rates, and any watch of the local news is filled with stabbings and shootings on what seems like a nightly basis. I’ve noticed this community, especially on the southwest side has really blown up and we’re getting a lot of new residence from outside of the area. I’m also noticing the traffic starting to become an issue. It’s still not as bad as a three hour commute I used to make daily from Santa Monica to the San Gabriel Valley in rush-hour traffic. You have to be able to take a little bit of bad with a good as more people move and flock to this affordable town. This is not going to get better, but there are signs that the infrastructure is growing to accommodate these new concerns like the crosstown freeway or the new 58 corridor. As beautiful as this town is, and I’m not discussing anything outside of my immediate area, we are finding crime rates are starting to skyrocket, but this is not exclusive to Bakersfield, this is a problem that all of California is dealing with due to the shifts in the justice system. I myself have experienced something in the last year that I have never experienced before living here 20 years prior. Not one break-in, but two break-ins, and attempted squatter incident and a vehicle theft. We are not immune to the problems of California, but people still have not learned. You must lock your cars at night. You must lock your houses at night and not bolted down most likely will not be there in the morning. I’ve seen in over and over again. It’s probably still better than living in any other part of Southern California, but crime has definitely come to Kern county and way it’s never been seen before. I’m just about ready to leave and head for the hills because I see the writing on the wall. As far as the weather is concerned, if you like the heat, we got it, if you like bitterly cold winters, we’ve got those too. If I were to recommend someone who was thinking about moving to Bakersfield from anywhere else in California, I would say do it if you’re looking to buy property. The housing market is hot right now, you get more bang for your back and if you buy in the correct spot, it can be a wonderful life. Provided you get used to the climate and you’re coming from somewhere else where affordability was not reasonable but do your homework. There are areas of this city like any other, I would not frequent once the sun goes down with the rising homeless population coming from what I understand is outside of the area, that has its entire issue to deal with as well so do your research because this town can be one of the most wonderful experiences and it also can be a nightmare.

Thanks for this! I’ve been here 30 years from Long Beach, we moved here with my 2 kids and landed in the SW and lived there for almost 30 years and loved it then the kids grew up so we started looking around to down size. We found a home in the Bakersfield Country Club and fell in love so we’ve been on the East side for 5 years now. We’ve been able to stay away from the areas that you mentioned. My kids also went to school in the SW in the Buena school district and had great educations. I would do it all over again!

Really bad homeless problem, high crime rate, worst air in the country, not really cheap anymore with inflated house prices and high rent unless you want to live in the ghetto. Other than that just another hot city.

It's definitely a topic that sparks a lot of discussion @JCC56! Many people have different reasons for moving, whether it's crime, taxes, or lifestyle changes. What do you think would make California a better place for those who choose to stay?

    • @JCC56

Well, obviously there's no mitigating bad aqi and crime rates.
Reducing redundant taxes for anything and everything would help.

If your young adventurous and grew up in the LA area I suggest you dont come here. The best thing here is the affordable housing but at what cost. Moved here from LA been here for almost 2 years the heat ,air quality, lack of outdoor activity, non existent night life no theme parks zoos water parks no beaches no good food just pizza and burgers everywhere not to mention overall health and fitness isn't taken very seriously here in kern county has me selling my house in NW bakersfield in the rosedale area and running out of here! Just my 2cent on bako.

@@Skate-Agent I know what you mean long beach was rough in the 80s and 90s but a lot of things have changed in LB since then the city is moving closer to Redondo and Manhattan at least in property value and I don't miss the traffic either. Bako isn't that terrible tho what people need to understand it's a very different lifestyle here in bako . It's a nice change of pace from LA life but not enough for me to make a permanent home. I'd rather be slightly house poor and live a higher quality of life

Not enough follow through streets going in any direction. Many dead ends, streets change names. Lots of trucks and bad drivers. Camera lights and bad air quality
But a good place to live anyway.

Just completely omitted the terrible terrible air quality 93% of the time, the high crime rate, and the high vehicle death rate. Sure it is beautiful immediately after rain but on average, according to weather spark, Bakersfield gets about 24 days of "some precipitation".
Ranked 3 worst for high ozone days out of 228 metropolitan areas
Ranked 1 worst for 24-hour particle pollution out of 223 metropolitan areas
Ranked 1 worst for annual particle pollution out of 204 metropolitan
Yeah you get that west Texas wide open spaces feel, but you have the worst air and to top it off... you have to deal with the people's republic of CALIFORNIA government and politicians.

    • @Skate-Agent
      @Skate-Agent  14 днів тому

Thanks for bringing those important issues to light
@atbacus! The air quality and pollution statistics are definitely concerning, and it’s crucial to consider them when discussing living in Bakersfield. It can be a beautiful place, but the environmental challenges can really overshadow that. What changes do you think would make a difference?
