I kinda like her old tone a bit more (around 2010-11) but her tone now is great, light and bright. The ease is everything. Also her tone sounds more fuller and well-rounded now. The high note in father gets me every time, so powerful
My favorite is definitely the Future Now tour “era” (let’s call it that). She still had a big part of the amazing support and resonance she used to have while using a lighter and healthier mix. Her tone was very good too. In my opinion, Demi’s mix in 2018 (TMYLM era) was amazing and all of that, but she lost all of her resonance, since she sacrificed it for ease. Even on notes she usually supports you can feel they’re somehow “thin”, they lack that gasp of support that is so characteristic of her. Her tone felt like that to me too, like something’s missing. Don’t get me wrong, she’s one of the best vocalists of this generation, but I just wish she’ll combine a rich tone, support and resonance with a light mix on her next album. I’m praying 🙏
I prefer the confident era as demi was really resonant while now she is at ease while belting and have greater stamina but it is less resonant and her voice can seem to sound pitchy at times and I just really prefer the 2013-2016 tone and mix
sounds like her voice type before 2013/2014 was ‘light-lyric soprano’ but as her voice settled and developed/changed her voice type became ‘lyric soprano’
@@superMacaulay1 well, you also have to consider that up until 2012 she was struggling with bulimia, and the acid from your vomit eats away at your cords, and it changes your voice. the same thing happened to Lady Gaga, before her debut, she used to belt out F#5s and G5s like they were nothing, and her voice and tone sounded so light. but Lady Gaga struggle with bulimia as well, and then her voice is EXTREMELY noticeably lower now since her debut, and she has only belted a G5 once since her debut, and rarely goes above the E5/F5 area to belted a F#5. so, it's possible Demi's voice went from 'light-lyric' to 'lyric'
@@warriorlionheartdemi5870 her tone changed not her type, you really seems don't understand about technique, as you mentioned Gaga... Which is the same case, the change was on the way that they sing, not the voice itself, Well... At least Gaga used to have a higher tessitura than she has now aparrently but this is not Demi's case and the biggest change for both still is the technique, the relationship with their own voices. Fach is not for pop singers btw.
One's voice type normally doesn't change throughout their lifetime. Demi was always a light-lyric soprano. They just pushed their voice a lot (especially between 2013 and 2016) so it sounded heavier. Their natural voice was always light (this can be seen from their performances in 2017).
Since she got her tonsils out her timbre changed... The same with Perrie Edwards from Little Mix, before her tone was so dark and low, after turned more light and bright
What do you guys think about her tone ? Do you think after the surgery she lost the richness in her voice disappeared or has she became even better now but technique wise more tone and voice power ??, I would love to hear
To me, every year starting with 2015 I thought "Man, she's better than she's ever been. There is no way she can improve much." And then bang next year came.
One thing we should take from this is even though her tone went less rock tinged to more a soulful womanly sound Her ease is just gotten ridiculous throughout the years and that’s the best part
Everybody seems to love her tone during the Unbroken era, but I personally don't. On the opposite I love her tone in 2014. But I think she's so much better than she has ever been since 2017!
I wish she still had her 2012 tone but with the technique of now. Before the surgery she had less problems with her shrillness and nasality. But then afterwards it like took over. Idk why, maybe it’s because her voice gained more weight?
2009 was nice but she was purging and drinking heavily which isn't great ... 2011 was nice but more throaty... now she's more soulful which is so nice and everything is more at ease for her
Demi Lovato you are absolutely beautiful and amazing and your performance is absolutely excellent and your voice and vocals are absolutely beautiful always truly enjoy your music love YA
Honestly her tone from 2008 to 2014 just sounds weak. I mean, I love all of her albums but the supported C5s in For you from 2015 ARE the best I've ever heard from her and from new gen female singers. Also, 2017 was the year where she gained more ease in upper belts AND that's awesome to me. 2015 she gained higher support to higher notes(AND omg can you hear all that resonance???? We are shook) instead 2017 it's just her improving.she keeps mixing in a very chesty way and that's kinda ruining her improvements(like see her tour vocals: She went from heady mix in the first two dates and actually good vocals to chesty mix and messy belts. Even her C5s gained too much weight and sound kinda off. I hope she comes back to a more heady mix).
I like her 2008 tone the most. Even though I like her tone now and have enjoyed all her past tones, I don't think it is good that it has changed so much. It has changed (to an extent, obviously there are other reasons like age) because of damage to her voice, and that is why 2008 is my favourite - because it her original tone, before her voice really took a hit, and what she would sound like today (just a bit more mature) if it wasn't for her health. + her 2013 tone is probably my second favourite :)
Finnley ✌ ღ I'm sorry "2008 before her voice took a hit" Her eating disorder at this point had been going on a few years prior to this point. I'm not sure the exact timeline of her drinking/drug use (I'm going to assume at this point she's drinking and doing pot) but alcohol and drugs, smoking especially, is incredibly damaging to the voice. The only thing I could possibly think that you can mean was the surgery she had in 2012 (?date?) Besides that the reason her voice changed in 2010-2011 was because of her voice getting stronger. Any changes before that could depend on what she was taking when and her voice naturally maturing with age. Also her voice is still changing. Women and men vocally are different. I want to say a man's voice stops maturing approx. Mid to early 20s where as a women's voice will mature into their mid 30s. So saying that in 2008 when she's 15/16 years old is her original tone before damage is incredibly flawed considering the damage already afflicted onto the vocal cords and how "underdeveloped" her voice was. For example if you were to take a look a few years prior to this at the songs she had recorded on her demo CD (recorded somewhere between the ages of 12-14 but I THINK 14) Where her voice would have had less "damage" and be less mature it sounds different even though you can still tell it's the same person.
It is true that her vocal cords were already going through damage in 2008, I didn't mean to imply that they were not. However back then she was not touring as heavily as she did in 2009 or 2010 (that I'm aware of?), and 2010 is the year I meant that her voice "really took a hit." - ua-cam.com/video/Za4Qddg1qE8/v-deo.html just look at how damaged her voice was here. She healed from her 2010 damage in 2011, but her tone did noticeably change in the unbroken era. The point I'm trying to make is that, yes her voice would have definitely changed in 2010-11 anyway regardless of her non-sober lifestyle due to natural maturation, and been different from the don't forget era to the unbroken era, but the change in tone would have not been as pronounced as it was. For instance, if you look at Miley Cyrus' recent performance of the Climb at #MarchForOurLives, and compare it to the studio version (recorded 2008, released in 2009!), her voice has obviously changed, but her tone in both versions is still similar. I'm trying to say the same thing for Demi. I could be completely wrong as she is a different person to Miley and other artists in general and my reasoning is probably a bit flawed, but my point is still that I don't think her tone would have changed as much as it has if it wasn't for her health. Hopefully you understand what I mean now. + I suppose I did kind of forget in my "what she would sound like today (just a bit more mature)" scenario that she would have problems with her tonsils even if she was healthy back then (I read she was going to get them removed when she was 15 but couldn't due to her schedule!), so yes her voice would have changed from her tonsil surgery anyway, but still if she never purged due to her eating disorder, was sober, and just simply had her tonsils removed whenever, her tone would still have not changed as much as it has in her case (with non-sobriety and purging.) I want to make it clear, that I love her voice now, and think it is stronger than ever and much better than her underdeveloped voice back in 2008, but I think she would be even better than she already is if she had her past tone combined with the technique + maturation she has now.
Hey Matthew! I hope you don't mind if I call you by your older username:) What do you think about Demi's vocal condition on her tour? Her tone during Unbroken era was everything 💓
Her earliest tone(2008-2010) is my fav. I am so obsessed with her distinct, raw and rock vocal.
Her unreleased songs like Shadow, Stronger are my fav
For me it's the opposite. I cannot stand her 2008-2010 voice. I love her voice now (2015 onwards).
"An intimate perfomance" will always be my favorite concert of her.

2016 best vocal year: yes or of course?
2015 was the biggest and most evident change. And the songs tooo. Shes more MATURE if that makes sense
I cannot believe people here love her 2008-2010 tone. It was shrill, thin and strained. Her tone nowadays is gorgeous.
It would have been great to have more of a mix of gentler performance and not just belts
omg her voice changed so much compared to live of SNS in 2017
Her most evident change in her voice is power and vibrato in 2015 that was her most evident change in her voice.. Even in her fashion too lol
A Demi sempre diz em entrevistas que sempre teve a voz que ela tem hoje. Como assim? O que ela quer dizer com isso? Porque a voz dela mudou muito.
I like 2007-2013

2011 & 2014 🍵

Don’t Forget and Here We Again era was the best.

i think the bigest change was from 2012 to 2013
2008-2014-girly tone
2015-16-power and resonance
2017-18-ease

In her debut she had a very open and projected sound that was very balanced and powerful, I feel. Her tone at times was a bit raspy and chesty but she didn’t sound really congested or nasally. Afterwards she became more nasally which was off putting. Now, she is still nasal but I feel as if she regained her balance and is projecting as opposed to straining. Her mix is better than it has been in the past. The thing that would make her the greatest, is if she worked on her support more.
