Just got my a+ comp tia book and study guide and practice test and will watch you and messer I'm 32 years old I have been cutting hair since I was 18 . I wish i would of done it then but everything has a purpose in life so my journey starts now
A+ for sure. That's what it is for. Sure it covers quite a breath-taking amount of topics but Mike Meyers is an amazing teacher. I normally can't learn too well from just reading out of a book but Mike lays it out in such a way that you can really envision what he is talking about. I knew little to none about computers before Mike's book. Now I'm the guy everyone calls when they have a problem with their computer. It doesn't get more "fundamental/basic learning" than Mike's A+ book and tutorial
Employers don't care how you got your CompTIA certifications just that you have them. They often also care about experience but the certifications help a lot. $5000 is a LOT to pay for training. You can buy the full 24 hours of Mike's video training + his book + practice tests for under $550 ( totalsem com). If you feel you want/need class room training you should be able to find something for under $3000. Good luck
I love tech. My network admin at my middle school tutored me so I can build and take apart computers. He recommended me the mike Meyers book. I am only fourteen. And this stuff is kinda easy.
+TotalSeminarsChannel do you think you could send me some certification books for free? ones that you might not need. I don't work cause I'm under age but once I'm old enough to work I will know what to do
+TotalSeminarsChannel Oh well that's okay my good man. Anything you recommend for a better education at a young age. I mean certifications are a good aim.
There are quite a few differences. You can go to CompTIA's web site and find a document highlighting the differences. Mike's videos are definitely NOT just PowerPoint's, he uses lots of hands-on examples. You can watch over 2 hours of them free at Total Seminars' web site. Look under the Video Training tab. At the bottom is a link to the video hub. Check them out and you can quickly see how much better Mike's style is. Hope you enjoy.
A couple of suggestions. First decide if you are a book learner or a visual learner and get Mike's book of videos. Second get an old PC and try what you learn as you go along. That will help a lot to remember. Finally I suggest you get some practice test software (yes Mike and Total Seminars has this). Our tests let you create custom questions by chapter in Mike's book so you can study and practice as you go along. Hope this helps. Good luck
Good advice to give. Im going to give myself 3 months for the 801 and another three months for 802. Ive got the book and wow alot of info. I got another book and watching study videos. I go by the order for 801. Thanks.
Yonatan Makara You are welcome. Glad you find it helpful. As you study you may want to check out our Total Sim's simulation product. It is a lot of info and the more hands on practice you get as you go through the materials the better you will remember them. There are free samples of the simulations you can check out at www.totalsem.com . Good luck with your studies. Let us know how you do.
There's a lot of overlap as to the topics. 801 focuses on identification and installation where 802 focuses on configuration and troubleshooting. Either way you have to learn about the same concepts, just different levels. Some find it easier to learn the topics identification through troubleshooting which lends to studying for both exams together. In the end the best way is what works best for you.
The textbook versions of Mike's A+ and Network+ books are in full color. McGraw-Hill publishes the trade versions (the All-in-One series) in black and white.
Thanks a long time ago I decided I wanted to train techs but have fun doing it. It is good to hear you like my approach. Besides I have a lot of fun too.
You are goofy, Mike. =j I think that works great to minimize some of the monotony of this stuff, though. Happy to have found you so easily. Any plans on putting out a course on the Security+ certification? Do I understand that correctly: that it is something of a third step in CompTIA? A+, Network+ then Security+ the general trend nowadays?
I have your Passport A+ book for the 701-702 tests. Trying to get it done before August of this year. Sound like a good idea? If not, how hard is it to transfer all of this knowledge to the 800's? You've been extremely helpful, so thanks!
So, YOU are the one who taught me A+? I read the book and always wondered who the "man behind the curtain" was - though I was a little disappointed to find out you weren't the guy from SNL and Austin Powers. Having been a teacher at a training franchise and having taught A+ classes myself, I can appreciate your enthusiastic and attention-retaining delivery. I have seen some BAD training from some really BAD live teachers on these topics. However, I would give you a (wait for it) A+...
Thanks for responding to my comment. I just recently purchased Mike's AIO study guide. I am going the route of self studying as opposed to classroom training. Thanks for the advice.
Even if you do classroom training you should get an old PC or two to work on. Ask around there are a lot of people who have old systems they don't use or think are junk. Those work great for you to practice on. Good luck with your training.
Charles Hart Thanks Charles. I am glad you like the books. Check out the videos and simulations. You can demo them free at Total Seminars www.totalsem.com . Also thanks for the cool/fun comment :-). If learning isn't fun you don't remember it nearly as well.
Many community colleges have CompTIA A+ Certification courses. You will have to check the ones near you to see if they offer it but many do. Good luck.
This is a tough one to answer. You don't have to have a high school degree or GED to train for CompTIA A+ Certification. All you need is to know the IT topics they test for. Having said that it is a good idea to graduate or at least get your GED. You will need it to prepare you to be successful in your career. Knowledge is important and you need to think about learning as a life long task. I hope this helps.
It all depends on how much experience and knowledge you have to start with and how hard you study during those 30 days. If you have been a tech for several years and you focus hard you can do it but if you are just starting out you will need longer.
Good luck with your studies. You may find Mike's full A+ video training helpful and when you get close to your exam you should look into practice exam software. This will ensure you are ready to pass and help you focus your study and review.
You will always have the record of your CompTIA certs. If you want to stay 'current' it really up to you and your employer. The reason they made the change is because they needed to comply with ISO9000 in response to all government DOD techs being required to be CompTIA certified.
I've wanted to get A+ certified for some time, and now I'm finally going to pull the trigger... Just have to prep first. Found your video series, and fortunately I already own your 8th edition book. This is awesome that your videos will also cover the book some to use as a reference. Here goes nothing... :)
EMyers1981 Good luck with your studies. You can get the full video series plus practice simulations to prepare for the Performance Based exam questions on our web site www.totalsem.com. You can also get practice test software. Everything maps to the 8th Edition book you have. When you are ready to take the test you can save on the cost of the exam with discount vouchers as well. Let us know how it goes with your studies.
Most of your 701/702 knowledge will apply to 801/802, BUT there are also quite a few new concepts. If you go to the CompTIA web site they have a document comparing the two series'. Good luck with your studies. Be sure to get your exam vouchers at Total Seminars' web site. You can save some money on the cost of the tests.
In the IT world the starting point is CompTIA A+ Certification. CompTIA has a great career roadmap: certification.comptia.org/ExploreCareers/careerpaths/career_roadmap This will be helpful to map out your path.
Hey, congratulations on getting A+ and Network+ certified! Glad you found resources that could work for you and that the products we produce helped at least to some degree. What's next, Security+ or on to Cisco or Microsoft track?
I would self study and get Mike's products but I need hands on experience. I dont have any computers of my own I can work with. Thats why I have to do class room training.
Yeah, the need to renew every three years is kind of annoying, but it applies to everyone CompTIA cert recipient as far as I have heard. The initial response was that those of us certified earlier still had lifetime, but everyone else had to recertify. I think now it's "I'm CompTIA A+ 2012 certified" or "2009" certified. I'm CompTIA A+ certified for life, in other words, but what's my *latest* credential?
Two questions, is there lot of difference between comptia A+ exams 701-702 and 801-802? I was studying 701 and as you can probably tell I didn't have much luck. Second question is are the videos like more hands-on? Because I get tired fast through few pages of the big book and the 2-3 different videos i tried where just powerpoint presentations (and also the seminar) which ended up going same way as reading the book but I can learn pretty well when it's shown in action/hands on
Thanks Scott. It's just that when I saw the video, and went out to get a hard cover after I was hyped up by the UA-cam promotion many months ago, I felt cheated. Mike Myers did not seem to know why when I contacted him directly, which just lead to further frustration. That said between his book and Michael Shannon's video series (I think he was more on the Cisco side--can't remember how I found him, but his video series was amazing) I did pass the A+ and Network+. Michael Shannon just better.
Great video , man I have a co worker IT who claims to have 3 certificates (A+ , Net + and Security + ) yet He does not know how to trouble shoot a network printer :). I'm studying for my A+ but I've noticed that the knowledge I get just evaporates the next day and I barely remember something :).
Two suggestions. First set up an old system to practice on. This really helps lock the knowledge into your brain. You can also try our TotalSims product. These are simulations that reinforce the concepts you are learning in my book or video series. They also help you practice for the Performance-based questions you will see on the CompTIA exams. You can find these on our web site www.totalsem.com Good luck with your studies. Let me know how it goes.
Hey mike, i would really appreciate your answer on this question i am about to ask you. What are the educational requirements for the "process" of becoming a pc repair technician? So as in someone who is a high school drop out and does not have a GED either would they be able to obtain their pc repair tech certification or would they have to get their GED or high school equivalent before starting this process? I would really appreciate an answer, thank you! - Mike
I have a pretty important question I think. I saw you reply to a user about 11 months ago stating that 30 days or more of study are required to pass these exams (especially if you are new to the field). My question is, if what you say is true, then why are all the Instructor-led classes that I've been finding only 5 days long? If you obviously need more than just 5 days of training, it seems incredibly dumb to take these live classes especially when they cost anywhere from $2,500 - $3000!
Those 5 day classes really aren't for beginners even though sometimes they say they are. A 5 day class is really a cram for someone who knows quite a bit about everything and they need to cram for passing the exam. The CompTIA A+ exam covers A LOT of material. If you are a new to the field you should either look into a community college or trade school that runs for a semester. The other option is to get a book or video training and work your way through the content and get an old PC and practice as you go. Just to put it in perspective Mike's A+ book is 1400 pages just to cover all the topics on the A+ exam.
The thing I hate about the A+ Cert. is that CompTIA has now made it so that the certification will expire and the technician will need to retake another set of exams in order to renew the certification. I understand the industry is forever changing and our techs need to adapt to these changes, but this is unfair in my opinion because all the previous techs have licenses that never expire.
Thank you for your video. I have a Bachelor degree in computer science, I studied in Mexico, I live in the USA and I've been looking for a job, it has been so difficult to find one, do you think if I get the A+ and Network + certifications would help?
Yes, in the IT world the certifications like A+ and Network+ are often as important as the degree. Employers what to know you know the practice not just the theory. I would suggest following A+/N+ with Security+ as well. That lets you expand into cyber security area which is VERY hot right now. Start with the basics (A+). The more certs you get the better your chances of landing that job. Good luck. Let us know how it goes. We have lots of training materials to help you study on our web site and you can save on the cost of the exams with discount vouchers when you are ready.
I was wondering does it really matter to potential employers if I complete my CompTia traiming online or a physical school. Do you think $ 5000 is worth speding on this training even though i don't have it . I would to get a loan. I already have alot of student loans
cezary8222 The All-in-One is written to teach all the topics from scratch. The idea is that this book will cover everything for the beginner or someone with some experience. The PassPort series is written for those techs who have been working for years and just need to cram for the exam and learn what CompTIA expects them to know.
I'm Really Trying to Pursue an IT Field & Get A+ Certified but Financially I Can't Afford the Books or Videos at the Moment. I Qualify for Financial Aid, So Are There Any College Courses I Can Take to Prepare Me for the Test.?
is mike meyers 900 series book out yet? if so, will it prepare me for the 901 and 902? or should i wait until another book comes ou? also, as someone with no formal IT experience, will the a+ help me get a job?
+Sirfatandblack Yes my A+ 901/902 book is out: "CompTIA A+ Certification All-in-One Exam Guide, Ninth Edition (Exams 220-901 & 220-902)". It is the best selling A+ book. It covers everything on the CompTIA A+ 220-902/220-902 exams.CompTIA A+ is a very good way to get your first job in the IT industry. Employers look for confirmation that you know the technology and certifications are a very good way to learn the skills and to show employers.
I have discussed this with my publisher, McGraw-Hill and they are not going to publish a separate set of books with the exams split. There is a map in the back of the book that shows where topics are covered that may help.
Each new CompTIA exam update brings new topics to the exam. Any time you try to use an older version of the book or any other training materials you have to realize that they will not cover the new topics. I know it is not the answer you would like but if you use the 701/702 book you it will not cover the new material that is on the 801/802 exam.
Now that we are close to the retirement date for the 800 series will these videos still be compatible with the 900 series and should I go ahead and purchase the ninth addition book instead of the eighth.
Do you have any clue of when will CompTIA update the A+ to 900? I'm having a doubt to take the test since Windows 8 is not in the current exam and Windows 10 will soon be released.
John Carlo Palmeda CompTIA is doing their job task analysis now and Windows 10 is not finalized yet. My guess is that the revision will include Win 8 but not Win 10. What they have done in the past is add some questions mid way between updates to address new OS's. That said if the new 900 series comes out end of 2015 some time in 2016 they may add questions covering Win 10.
No audio books but if you contact the publisher they can arrange for PDFs that may work for you. Adobe has a feature that reads the PDF to you. The publisher is McGraw-Hill. You can call Total Seminars office 281-922-4166 and ask for Tim Green's contact number. He is our editor.
I purchased your book an read it from beginning to end. Appendix A page 1455 says 222-801 exam objectives Appendix B page 222-801 exam objectives. Any chance I can get some free books for finding this flaw and experiencing this issue?? Lol
I completed my Associate of Science Degree in Computer Information Systems w/ a concentration in Networking & Security Management back in 2013 and am having trouble finding a job in the IT field. I am searching for a solid study guide to prepare for the A+ exams. Should I study for the 220-801/802 exams or wait for the newer versions that will be coming out later this year? I want to make sure I have enough time to study and pass. Thanks.
melrio9785 The new A+ exams won't come out until the end of the year and they won't retire the 801/802 exams until around 6 months later. That would give you at least a full year to study and take the current exams. I would suggest you go a head and study and take the current exam rather than wait that long. You can buy books / videos / simulations and practice exam software at our web site www.totalsem.com. Good luck with your studies.
ShadowClone069 This covers the current A+ 801/802 Exam. CompTIA hasn't announced the update but it should happen around the end of this year / first of next year. When they launch the new 901/902 exam the current 801/802 exam will still be live for 6-9 months. This means you will be able to take this exam for about another year.
Sir, Can you help me out please? I am looking what is the best course to be certify on Microsoft Office?, Also, I am working on being certify in Network +, CSCO, and other certifications but first I am looking for recommendation now that I can see that you look like very good in what you are doing, thanks sir. Respectfully; Andres Ortiz SFC,USA,RET War Veteran Disable Texas
If you are looking for Office certifications you should focus on MOUS. Those certify you in Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc. If you are looking for technical certifications I suggest you start with CompTIA A+ Certification. If you go to the CompTIA web site they have a certification pathway that you will find very helpful.
Thank you, I just finished Rounting Protocol with DeVry, I was recommended by the professor to go to the bootcamp to be able to get the certification on CCNA and other to because they go through everything, I just want it to get the right information because I do live in Texas and I want to go to get the CCNA boot-camp and make sure that the money is worth it because too many spams in the internet and I don't want to waste time and money so I want it to ask you first before I do invest in any bootcamp, please help thanks. Respectfully; andy
Andy, I am not sure which bootcamp you are talking about. Like any other training, there are good and bad. I suggest you try to get references from former students of the program you are looking into and see what they thought. Ask two main things. First, did they learn the skills to be a good tech? The certification won't help you if you can't do the work and all you have is a piece of paper. Second, did the bootcamp get them the knowledge they needed to pass the certification. Good luck.
Your content rates very high everywhere I look. I'm glad you enjoy teaching this stuff, and happy to see you have both of your 901 & 902 entire series on Udemy.com. They have a 40% off Summer Skill-Up event going on right now until July 29th, 2016, for those interested! $60 for everything I need to know -- especially because you cut out the garbage I don't -- is great!
Yes it is annoying, and its very unfair. That's why I'm going to concentrate on getting more Microsoft certs, which don't expire because even when they phase them out, there is still a record of you having them.
I had bad experience with his Network+ books. Mainly just the hype about a fully colored Network+ book that came in black and white and he didn't seem to care when I emailed him. He must have been too busy, Heck, I wouldn't have cared if it wasn't promoted as such a "great feature" in another UA-cam video. Of course no single book is the best source of info, ever. He just let me down is all.
Yes, :-) it was part ad but also letting people know what kind of recourses are available and what to expect on the exams. Check out the other videos, they are content only.
Just got my a+ comp tia book and study guide and practice test and will watch you and messer I'm 32 years old I have been cutting hair since I was 18 . I wish i would of done it then but everything has a purpose in life so my journey starts now

Mike, can you answer why? Employers thinK that Comptia A+ means that you can troubleshoot electronic circuits?
UA-cam won't allow URL in messages, put .aspx at the end of the link above to find the career map.
Thats about as much as its costing me per year at my current technical college
Could be just your location plus A+ is just the first out of many certs, the more the better. Try getting N+?
Hi Mike, I see that you also have another book: A+ Passport Series, so I was wondering what's the difference between the two?
cezary8222 The All-in-One is written to teach all the topics from scratch. The idea is that this book will cover everything for the beginner or someone with some experience. The PassPort series is written for those techs who have been working for years and just need to cram for the exam and learn what CompTIA expects them to know.
TotalSeminarsChannel ok, good to know, thanks :)
I'm Really Trying to Pursue an IT Field & Get A+ Certified but Financially I Can't
Afford the Books or Videos at the Moment. I Qualify for Financial
Aid, So Are There Any College Courses I Can Take to Prepare
Me for the Test.?
hey, is there a age limit to these tests? i'm 14 and im interested in taking these tests.
is mike meyers 900 series book out yet? if so, will it prepare me for the 901 and 902? or should i wait until another book comes ou? also, as someone with no formal IT experience, will the a+ help me get a job?
+Sirfatandblack Yes my A+ 901/902 book is out: "CompTIA A+ Certification All-in-One Exam Guide, Ninth Edition (Exams 220-901 & 220-902)". It is the best selling A+ book. It covers everything on the CompTIA A+ 220-902/220-902 exams.CompTIA A+ is a very good way to get your first job in the IT industry. Employers look for confirmation that you know the technology and certifications are a very good way to learn the skills and to show employers.
how about the new 900 series (901 and 902) ?
+Ken Camarador Working on those now. I should have it finished next month.
hey Mike Meyers' I was wondering if you planned on breaking up the 901 and 902 parts of the 9th edition exam study guide?
I have discussed this with my publisher, McGraw-Hill and they are not going to publish a separate set of books with the exams split. There is a map in the back of the book that shows where topics are covered that may help.
NO no break up stay forever xoxoxo
How do you know?
Mike do you have an audio book version of 901/902 available to listen to
So here's a question for you mike. If I have an A+ certification book for exams 202 701 and 702, will it still work for the 801 and 802 version?
Each new CompTIA exam update brings new topics to the exam. Any time you try to use an older version of the book or any other training materials you have to realize that they will not cover the new topics. I know it is not the answer you would like but if you use the 701/702 book you it will not cover the new material that is on the 801/802 exam.
Now that we are close to the retirement date for the 800 series will these videos still be compatible with the 900 series and should I go ahead and purchase the ninth addition book instead of the eighth.
+Ethan Wilson You want to study with the latest technologies. I suggest the 9th edition.
As a freshman in high school, would the A+ exam help me at all in being able to land any ENTRY level tech jobs?
Arik Jeppsen Absolutely. A+ Certification will open lots of doors for entry tech jobs and start you down a path to bigger and better opportunities.
Do you have any clue of when will CompTIA update the A+ to 900? I'm having a doubt to take the test since Windows 8 is not in the current exam and Windows 10 will soon be released.
They are due to release a new 900 series A+ exam around the end of 2015.
TotalSeminarsChannel Would it be another miss to include the new OS from MS in the exam? I can tell it could be like that again.
John Carlo Palmeda CompTIA is doing their job task analysis now and Windows 10 is not finalized yet. My guess is that the revision will include Win 8 but not Win 10. What they have done in the past is add some questions mid way between updates to address new OS's. That said if the new 900 series comes out end of 2015 some time in 2016 they may add questions covering Win 10.
mike do you have any audiobooks for your books for a+ 801 and 802 exams
No audio books but if you contact the publisher they can arrange for PDFs that may work for you. Adobe has a feature that reads the PDF to you. The publisher is McGraw-Hill. You can call Total Seminars office 281-922-4166 and ask for Tim Green's contact number. He is our editor.
I purchased your book an read it from beginning to end. Appendix A page 1455 says 222-801 exam objectives Appendix B page 222-801 exam objectives. Any chance I can get some free books for finding this flaw and experiencing this issue?? Lol
+Jesse Gomez Sorry no free books. thanks for letting us know.
I will! Thank you so much this is very helpful.
Is this still up to date for the exam in 2015 I'm not sure how often the exams get updated
Thank you for your response
Your welcome good luck with your studies.
Sir, Can you help me out please? I am looking what is the best course to be certify on Microsoft Office?, Also, I am working on being certify in Network +, CSCO, and other certifications but first I am looking for recommendation now that I can see that you look like very good in what you are doing, thanks sir.

Good luck.
thank you sir, Andy
This will explain if CompTiA is right for you hardwarecertifications.blogspot.co.uk/2014/06/enhance-your-career-with-comptia.html
like it ..
Thanks for the complement. Hope you take advantage of the sale and enjoy the courses.
Does anyone know if this works on Windows 8? Thanks!
Yes it is annoying, and its very unfair. That's why I'm going to concentrate on getting more Microsoft certs, which don't expire because even when they phase them out, there is still a record of you having them.
Not even sure what you meant Amigo. Que Pasa Pero?
Fuck an angry bird, I WANT MY CERTS DOG.
He just let me down is all.
mike i love you xoxoxoxo
Will u be my teacher
+Updalla Vibes LOL so many ask that. so I created the videos so I can be teacher to students everywhere on their schedule.
If you designed your very own bobblehead I'm quite certain you'd prove the theory of perpetual motion. Just look at you go...
We have actually toyed with the idea of creating a Mike bobblehead just for fun. We may do it for kicks one of these days LOL
mike you so quiet pls be louder xoxoxoxo
verry corny but useful
oh wait it was just an add
Yes, :-) it was part ad but also letting people know what kind of recourses are available and what to expect on the exams. Check out the other videos, they are content only.
can i take the 801 wait a bit then take the 802 cause my parents really want me to take at least part of it soon but i cant afford both exams
You don't have to take both on the same day, but you won't get the certification without having both done.
thank you for the replies it really helped
LOL, Because they don't know what A+ is about and they are hoping to push off the problems to anyone.
Irritating, unnecessarily quirky, primary school approach to teaching in all videos. Very distracting for a Brit.
David Green Trying to keep it interesting and lively. Sorry it doesn't work for you. Best of luck with your studies.
David Green this is true but i think thats what its directed toward...we used to watch these in my networking class in highschool.
:)
