    He didn't mention anything about how decks should be chosen based on rider height. The trucks and wheels change the amount of leverage a deck has. The shorter the skater the more they have to bend their front leg if the distance from the tail to the ground is too high. This can cause the skater to lean back too much causing them to kick the board forward or land on their back truck too much. It's harder because they have to bend their front leg a lot when they step down to pop with their back leg. Now they have to push the front of the board down a lot more to level it out. This is something NO shop employee or Spencer Nuzzi will ever mention because they don't have a clue. Who wants to trust someone who wears sunglasses in doors anyway?

    its funny how people are comparing board sizes and saying one is better than the other... boards bigger than 7.75 didnt start to become the normal size to pick until about late 06 to early 07... and really it is all about preference... i skated 7.75 since 2001 and didnt switch to a bigger board until about late 07... and yes wider boards are a little harder to flip but that doesnt mean theyre impossible... so just do what spencer says and just go stand on a few boards and see what fits you better before judging what others skate... because if you remember a little thing called dog town or z boys, then you know that they skated boards way smaller than 7.75 and made it work to their advantage :D

    I skate street and I ride an 8.5 and I'm gonna move up to an 8.75. Honestly, I think the bigger the board the better because you have a lot more room to land on and you don't have to worry about trying to land on your toes all the time when you skate a mini 7.75 or 8 deck. And for flipping, it really doesn't matter unless you're the pickiest person on earth, i can almost get double flips without kicking super hard, and a bigger deck is wayy more comfortable and easier to commit to tricks.

    I ride a 8.125. If you are tall like me and have a pretty big foot I would ride an 8 to an 8.25 for street. Size 8 is a little to small for me but 8.125 is perfect. You have to get used to it but after a week I land almost all my flip tricks first try. I am 6 foot 1 and have a size 11 shoe.

    there is a huge debate going on between our group and each of us has our own say in it and I believe you are the right person to ask about this question. ok here's the situation, I (name: The disturbing) am trying to listen to one of my dear friends Sai and Asterof, Sai is saying "if you get into skating its best to stick with what I know and go with a regular skateboard from zoomies.", I said I'm not looking to do tricks, I just want a new way to cruse. Then Asterof bursts in and says "Then go get a sole skate or a rip stick if you wanna cruse.". I wish I could get a long board and be done with their bickering, but I don't have the budget and I don't know if its the right choice either for beginning. who should I listen to Sai or Asterof?

      Do you just skate flat ground or have feet of a 8 year old child? either way, decks under 8.0 is ridiculous and there's no room to land. I have 8.375 and I can still flip the board just as well as an 8.0, except I personally feel more comfortable with more room and bigger pockets.

    • @LucidAnomalies_
      @LucidAnomalies_ 10 років тому +6

      TheMidnightTerrors"for technical pussies who don't go big and who like to skate flat-land"... sounds more like opinion then fact. grow up weenie. you've just accustomed yourself to skating 8+ because that's what everyone else skates now. I've been riding 7.75 since 2009. I bet i could top you any day.

    • @LucidAnomalies_
      @LucidAnomalies_ 10 років тому +1

  • @erebus38
    @erebus38 10 років тому

    I've never really paid much attention to wheel base but I've always just preferred an 8 inch width by 31.75 inch length as it's a good balanced size that will more or less work well for me on anything that I may choose to ride,whether transitions or flatter terrain on natural street terrain.

    • @deven4866
      @deven4866 10 років тому

      8in is a comfortable ride for me too.

    • @erebus38
      @erebus38 10 років тому

      Everyone has a different physique regardless of height or weight,other factors such as the size of your feet can also come into play as well and that's why a standard 8 inch wide deck has always been just right for me. It's wide enough for landings on more difficult moves providing just the right amount of space for my feet and yet not remain too heavy of a deck to do what I like on it. Most of myfriends always liked decks that were just right beneath that width,except for one friend who wouldn't willingly ride anything under an 8.25 inch width,but he was a pretty big dude though,so I could understand why he was like that.

    • @deven4866
      @deven4866 10 років тому

      See im the opposite, im a pretty short guy with small feet. So I wont ride anything bigger then an 8 and nothing smaller the 7.8 (anything smaller gets kinda sketchy to me).

    • @erebus38
      @erebus38 10 років тому

      I was small years back and only stand at 5 ft 10 inches. While I was also skinny,I had pretty big feet,so that's why I stuck mostly with an 8 inch wide deck mainly for stability so I wouldn't stumble off the damn or drag my toes or heels. I love how easy flipping 7 inch wide decks were but it came at the cost of really sloppy landings. As for wider decks,landings were no issues,but the decks were normally heavier and made flip tricks require more physical effort than I liked.

    I'm a street skater and i like skating narrow decks with lots of pop and are great for flipping. What brand deck should I get next? Right now I have an element 7.75 and I like it but I need a new one

    Was that skate clip towards the beginning at Del Norte High school? That seems oddly familiar. (I went there that's why I ask.)

    Nice job. 90% of this information was correct. The size variations were lacking a bit, but overall, this was pretty accurate.

    I'm looking for a board for park/street, but mostly park. I want a board that is not a Popsicle board but still has the capability of one. I would just like a little difference in the shape.

    I got a skate as a present when i was younger, but i think using it may make doing tricks very hard, and the reason is: It's made from metal, not wood... It's a lot heavier. Should i get myself a real board one, or just go on with this, because it doesn't make a big difference?

    Spencer, I was wondering if concave boards could be damaged easier? I have concerns about this because I Ride what my friends call a "Walmart board." The reason I am concerned is because I can't remember how old it is, but it has a concave shape, and it has strange cracks on the bottom.

    So I bought a 8.1 deck from polarskate. I'm quite at ease on it, but seeing the comments made me unsure if its a good board to hit the streets and learning flatground tricks.
    Just reply if you think another size is better.

    Been riding 8.1 decks since I started in 2009,and even with my weight and height, weirdly enough I've never broken a single deck all this time (even now on my tallest,I've lost 40 pounds since last year by doing yoga and balancing out my diet and stopping beer,which helped a lot) even if bails are...ugh,painful but still lots of fun when I don't dislocate anything :"D
