    Good video. May I offer some advice which may save you some time. There is no need to split the unit to drain the fuel. I have used this next method many times on my Honda generators. First remove the gas cap and the primary fuel filter from the unit. Use a quality turkey baster and vacuum as much of the fuel out as possible. Then use a mechanics flex claw tool to wick up the rest. I fold sections of a Bounty or Viva paper towel and grab the middle of the paper towel with the claw and fold it over the flex claw Then wrap the paper towel very tightly with a new rubber band and wick out the fuel.
    To remove as much of the fuel as possible from the rest of the fuel system. There is no need to remove any part of the air cleaner housing. Remove the spark plug, place a small container below the drain tube and then loosen the carburetor drain screw. Then place the unit on full choke and pull the starter recoil several times to drain the rest of the fuel. This method is much easier than typing out these instructions.
    When replacing the air filters it is recommended by Honda to use filter oil to saturate the filter and remove the excess before installing the filter. Here is a link to the Eu2200i air filter maintenance from Honda. It starts at 2:27.

    If you do have the unit split locate the finger filter located at the drain hole of the fuel tank, remove the fuel tank line and it is easy to remove and cheap to clean and or replace the filter.
    If you have the shell opened or you have the exhaust cover off remove the muffler and then remove the spark arrestor to clean or replace. These can clog and cause problems.
    I have the Honda Eu 2200i but the part types or basically the same. Here is a link to a parts diagrams for the Eu 1000i. I have ordered from this company before and they did well. Honda makes many iterations of each generator just make sure you choose the right unit model before ordering.
    I try to remove the least amount of parts as possible as I will most likely drop or lose something.

      I appreciate your comment! Honestly I’ve picked myself up a vacuum extractor since the filming of this video. What a game changer it has been. Let’s just hope the seals hold up to gasoline. I will definitely take your advice in soaking up any residual fuel even after extracting. Great write up. Thank you!

    I have the clone Kipo Chinese version of the Honda , the only problem I have with it is the petrol shut off always leak after 2 years, so I replaced it with another pipe bypassing the shut off switch , but considering it was bought new in 2000 I think it’s during well .

    By not collecting the carb fuel to visually check it for water you have assumed that the carb fuel MUST be water contaminated. Assumptions can cause much more work and things like plug carbon fouling, bad or weak spark, low engine oil shut-off and ignition switch are left unanswered unless you just happened to guess right on that fuel.
    I would have first closed fuel to the carb then checked for spark then visually checked the drained Carb's fuel for actual water and then, while the plug is out put a bit of raw fuel into the cylinder to see if the engine recoil started. If the engine quickly died THEN it's carb clean out time.
    Working Logically, Smarter and not Harder, comes to mind.

      It sounds like you have a fuel delivery issue either from the tank to the carb or the carb itself. I would check to see if you’re getting fuel to the carb first. Make sure your fuel is good in the tank and carb. If that checks out then you’re looking at a carb cleaning. The little ports throughout the carburetor are likely clogged. Be sure the main jet is clean. Hope this helps!

    • @OttosSmallEngine
      @OttosSmallEngine  6 місяців тому +1

      @@LABAMA15 sorry to hear you’re still having issues. If you spray carb cleaner in the intake and it fires up then dies, you still have a fuel delivery issue or a fuel quality issue. The carb could be clean but the fuel condition could be poor. Make sure your fuel is all flushed out and you have fresh gas in there. Any gasoline over 4 months should be flushed out completely. It takes very little moisture in the fuel to cause this issue you’re having. If you are certain you have new fuel in the tank, lines and carb, I would clean the carb again to ensure you removed all the gunk. Especially the jets. I have a video on how to clean a carburetor. The process will be the similar if you’d like to check it out. You need to clean every port and jet. If none of this works, I would look into replacing your carburetor all together. Hope this helps !

      @@OttosSmallEngine any recommendation on removing stripped screw underneath < where the 2 long screws hold the shell> 😭

    • @OttosSmallEngine
      @OttosSmallEngine  6 місяців тому +1

      @@LABAMA15 Sorry to hear this happened to you. If they are only slightly stripped you could try a diamond tipped #3 Philips head screwdriver. They bite in better and increase your chance of extracting them. If the screws heads are completely stripped then your only option is to drill them out, knock the heads off and take out the actual screw portion once you split the case. Buy two new screws and you should be all set. Hope this helps!

    The basics are, SPARK at the right time, FUEL in the cylinder, Air flow INTO THE CYLINDER and COMPRESSION. YES, THE BASICS. IS this just for show?

    • @OttosSmallEngine
      @OttosSmallEngine  5 місяців тому +1

      Hi there, this video was based on this particular generators issues along with showing how to split the case and put it back together. I realize it was overkill to just drain the tank. I was learning along the way too. I don’t come across many of these Hondas where the case needs to be split as their hardy little units. It may help someone out there is all. There was no reason for me to check compression or spark as it started on carb clean. As soon as it popped off using carb clean I then knew it was a fuelling issue. I may make a more in-depth video going over the basics on how to troubleshoot a small engine. Thank you for that idea. Thanks for watching!

    Get a siphon, suck the fuel our from the top, then a paper towel to soak up the last of it.
    You could have checked if the carb needed cleaning.

      They’re hardy little units if you just need a little bit of back up power. I find most use them for camping to charge up devices etc. I’ve seen them neglected and mistreated and they still seem to run. Better then most of their competitors in my humble opinion. This repair was well worth it if you compare repair cost vs purchasing a new unit
