    I have cx-5 turbo , and I get around 20mpg in city with traffic, around 26-27mpg on highway with 75miles/h or 28-29 with 65-70miles/h.
    I think EPA rating is quite fair.
    Not the best economy but I like the car.

      Significantly more mpg= significantly less performance.

      I get exactly the same gas mileage, I have a 2021 Turbo GTR. I have absolutely no complaints with it. Great in the snow, sporty ride, and room for my 2 granddaughters in back. Mine stickered at $38k new and loaded has everything even roof crossbars.

    Great mileage I'd like to see what city driving "stop and go traffic" is like. I think it would definitely take a big hit. I live in nyc where gas mileage goes to die.😂😢

      Yes, I did do some stop and go with stop signs etc. When making the loops through town, but yes, city driving would drop the mpg significantly. Your best bet would be a PHEV. Use electric in the city, but then have a gas engine outside the city..

      It will likely drop to just under 23mpg.
      My wife's non turbo has averaged 24.5mpg over 30k miles, not a tank or two like most reviews.
      Honestly the pros of the turbo seem to be highway pulling.

    If you’re in boost often with this, the MPG is horrible

      Yes, the turbo is good for acceleration but not good for mpgs

    I just bought a Select S with the naturally aspirated 4 cylinder.
    With 4000 miles on the odometer, I’m getting 32-33 mpg on the highway and 27-28 combined city/highway.
    I drive the speed limit at 70 mph on the highway.
    No complaints on the fuel economy levels, it’s a fun car.
    If Mazda were smart they would keep the re-design minimal, add some technology and see where it goes.
    I find CX 5 owners love their cars.

      I don't believe they will change the 5 much since it's off road companion has come along in the cx-50. Although, they might just stop making the cx-5....

    We have had our non turbo 2024 Mazda CX5 for three months. Over that time we have averages between 27 and 28 mpg.

    I’m impressed by 28 actually! Do wish it had a larger gas tank.

    I get 30 -33 in my 2WD 2018 CX-5. Worth noting that is cruising at 75 - 85 on the highway - the sweet spot for the best mileage, which is wild.

    doing some proper city, with stop and go and traffic will bring that average down quite a bit.

      That is why I drive 2 loops through both cities, 1 loop through each on the 1st half, 1 loop through each on the way back. Multiple Stop lights, stop signs and traffic.

    Hmm. I have a mazda CX-50, I have base 2.5 S engine and 17 inch wheels, I get 30-34 on highway and 24-27 city depending on traffic. With a turbo there is a tendency to drive it 'zoom zoom' (I know, my other car is a turbo, BMW 3 series sportwagen) to have fun with the torque, but that comes at a mileage price. In the bmw it can range rom 28-35 on the highway depending on what I do...I wonder if the Mazda 2.5 turbo behaves the same...driving in the rain may have some impact on mileage also

    • @offtheshelfrides
      @offtheshelfrides  7 місяців тому

      Yes, the more you get into the turbos, the less mpgs

  • @ronc127
    @ronc127 7 місяців тому +1

    I'm all for getting the vehicle you can afford, like, and meet your needs. But just from an MPG standpoint, I find it amazing that these smaller vehicles aren't getting better MPG.
    The Ford F150 power boost 2 wheel drive, gets this kind of MPG, and it is a lot bigger vehicle.

    • @offtheshelfrides
      @offtheshelfrides  7 місяців тому +3

      It's because of the turbos. Turbos eat more gas when you push into it. That Powerboost is a hybrid, that's why it gets that mpg, the 3.5 turbo in the standard f-150, gets 18-20.

    if its turbocharged it should need minimum 91 octane gas

      Mazda's engines are tuned to run on 87 octane

      @KBreen-nq6om no, its in the engine head, and its called knock sensor. almost every car has it since last decade (i d say even last 2 decades)
      so the ECU can adjust the loading all the time, (mostly depending on air temp)

    • @offtheshelfrides
      @offtheshelfrides  7 місяців тому +1

      Yes, it does adjust according to the octane, but premium is not required, therefore 90% of people will just put regular in, so that is how I run my tests. When they require premium, I use premium for the tests even though 70% of people will still just put regular in it....

      If he really cared about the car he’d be putting 91 or higher in it. It will show with MPG and future engine carbon build up in the engine. I had a mazdaspeed 3 years ago and the previous owner put 87. Gave me headaches at 50k miles with the carbon build up. I’ll never buy a used turbo car again unless if I know the owner cared about the car
