  • Some more funny rants, tomfoolery and the origin of 'Bunny Bandit' as I attempt the Pass of the Cattle (Bealach na Ba), Applecross on a Honda Innova on my tour of Scotland. Can a 9 bhp Honda Innova climb the greatest ascent in the UK? All is revealed. My apologies for the weather, the camera wipes, my awfully bad language and bad humour.

Fascinating series of videos. Just 3BHP more on that bike would make all the difference. Back in 1975 I bought a Honda CB125S (12 BHP & 5 speed) and my wife and I toured England and Scotland many times. Our combined weight was about the same as yours (!) and we travelled light, but it seemed to run up the hills easier. We also did Hardnott Pass, Wrynose and Honistor in the Lake District. You really don't need a 1200 GS to tour!! Bob

      I’ve got a inova 125
      Basically same bike but red
And I was gonna flog it
I bought it to deliver pizza on
But the insurance was to much
Any interest of selling yet I’m thinking of keeping it
      Talking of more horse 🐎
You can get a big bore kit for these bikes ,
Which I’m told the piston come with the rings ready gapped and you get a high lift cam ,
      So it’s up from 124-147
Which don’t seem a lot but it apparently makes a good bit of difference
I’ve seen one guy that had it dyno and got 17 bhp ?!?!?!?
He had an oil cooler also ….
      I don’t think I’d go that far
I suspect the reliability could be affected for the worse ,
I saw a kit earlier while looking and it takes it up to a 180 cc
But you have to make it fit in the crank ,
I think the bottom end my be un to much pressure,
If I do mine ill make a video and ill coment mate 👌

Brilliant video took me back to my youth on my first bike, a C50 that I past my test on at 16 years old in 1971 can still remember the reg: TWH 890K happy days. Had all sorts since then. Now retired and driving around UK and Europe you've inspired me mite look for a cub to put on the back of my motorhome. Happy travels Bob & Paula from Lancs.

James Tyrrell thanks for your comments James. I have a few things lined up for 2017. We have a new 2017 Honda Vision 110, the new one with the ESP engine and upgraded everything! My girlfriend is planning to follow me to Cornwall on that this year whilst I ride the S Wing so if that comes off (possible house move in the way) we will be recording footage. I also have the S wing in bits at the moment for a final drive rebuild and some nice touring luggage upgrades including the Kappa equivalent of a Givi Trekker 52 box! There is also suspension upgrades going on and I'm researching Cerakote, a non rust, heat resistant powder coating for your exhaust. Much to do then as soon as the weather cheers up. The Vision 110 review will be published soon but the first impression is it's very very good to ride. I hope that you will find some of my content in 2017 interesting and best regards

I enjoyed viewing this video from the back catalogue of Scooty Man videos. I love the small bike stuff. Anyone can tour on a liter-bike. My Harley friends are amazed at the mileage that I put on my Helix. The brakes on the Helix are not particularly impressive. When I watched this video, I couldn’t help but think that the ride down looked more challenging than the climb. I always worry about having adequate braking. Thanks for the videos.

If you like steep hills, try the Mamore Gap in County Donegal, Ireland. It's not a very long (1 mile) climb but it's steep (30%) and would certainly challenge your 125. The scenery round there is fantastic.

Fantastic video and I completely agree that power and speed snobbery among bikers has reached ridiculous levels. They just don't get it, because with their dim-witted mental capacity they think biking is just about quick thrills of getting up to 90 mph in 4 seconds on public roads and to hell with everyone else, and that's exactly why most people hate "bikers". They have no interest in the landscape itself, only the "twisties", which they then navigate around at suicidal speeds. The equally stupid, childish biking media also promote this ludicrous power snobbery. They simply don't understand that being on two wheels is not just about 100+HP and suicidal speeds. Well done for being different - and very good humoured too!

  • @taebert

Thank you for the video. And thank you for not having a music track. I stumbled upon your videos thinking that you were riding a little scooter. I thought it was a 125 cc bike that we don’t get in the states. I was thinking it was a sh125. As a big fan of the Honda cub, I was delighted that your bike looks like it is actually a cub derivative. Add one more subscriber to your count.

Great bikes these. I prefer the Carb version to the FI models, personally. Smell like a proper classic bike (2003/2004 range) and you warm the engine, use the choke in winter, brilliant stuff! Fantastic machines and last a lot longer than these modern ‘big bikes’. Engines on these are bullet proof. Very rarely miss a beat and when things (rarely) need replacing it is very cheap fix.

      Christopher Harlow
Hi Christopher. Thank you for your questions. The answer is really it's a love thing! When I was a small lad I used to watch the dock workers ride out of Southampton docks on Honda C90's. I've always been a bit of a geek or maybe an oddball when it comes to preferences with transport and other such things and the C90 started it all off. I used to walk all over Southampton after school collecting new car brochures as I was car crazy back then as a teenager. My favourite garage was Freeborn Citroen because of the oddball innovative French cars like the Citroen CX, the 2CV6 and let's not forget the BX. That developed over time with bikes and scooters and I just loved the basic machines like my first bike, a blue coloured Honda CB125RS. I always wanted a C90 and I was fascinated by how the gearbox worked without a clutch. Indeed it does have a clutch just operated by your foot instead of your hand and that's where the innova came in. I couldn't find a decent C90 so I bought the Innova 125. It wasn't for any other bad reason I sold the CB125F. Indeed I rate it highly and interestingly it's made by the same factory as the old CB125RS back in the 80's, namely Wuyang Honda (A Honda built in China). I simply had to have the Innova as it's was mint with only 180 miles on the clock and it was my chance to get a good one. I was out of garage space so needed to trade a bike and the CB went.
As for my licence, yes I had an A1 as I had no interest in bigger bikes at that time. Last month that all changed and I passed my full bike licence. Today I bought my first four cylinder 1000 cc Honda. It's a 2006 CBF 1000 in great condition with very low miles. No doubt that will make its debut on my channel soon but, in the same vein as all my bike choices, the CBF is considered quite a utilitarian sport tourer. I guess I'll never change but you should definitely have a play with an innova if you get the chance to ride one.
      Best regards

Scooty Man , thanks for the reply. Weirdly I take my part 2 test in Kettering on Wednesday morning. It may sound a bit odd but I haven't enjoyed riding 600s. I did my part 1 on a Kawasaki ERN . I've had lessons and will take my part 2 on a Yamaha diversion. The bigger bikes are completely different to ride than the smaller bikes I used to ride in the 1990s. However I promised myself I would take my test so here goes. It will probably sound mad but my ideal bike would be something like a YBR 250. I may even but a 125 as I haven't ridden (apart from lessons and CBT) for almost 30 years. I don't know why I waited so long

Good luck with the test matey. I watched a load of UA-cam videos by RJH Motorcycle training and they helped with some tips. I liked the one when you enter a new road, "check mirrors, check signals" as I always left my indicators on. The test isn't hard. They just want to know you are in control and safe so you'll be fine. I looked at the YBR 250 along with the Inazuma 250. On eBay they are £2600 OTR brand new and look good value but I decided to go bigger for low rpm cruising capability and overtaking power that I never had before. I did my test on a Gladius 650 V twin and I must confess to liking it but I think I'd get bored quickly. It felt a bit of a one trick pony, that being fairly rapid acceleration and good low down torque from the V twin engine. I'm thinking I'm more of a smooth inline four kind of person and the CBF came up tops.
Whatever you decide, you'll enjoy the small capacity machines I'm sure.
      Best regards

The Innova/Wave etc is available in much of Asia for around £700 - admittedly in a more basic form, but Honda are missing a trick here. Looking at the success of Enfield in creating a niche market, why not do the same at around say £1000?

    • @scootyman2974
      @scootyman2974  2 роки тому +1

I agree Peter. I just don't think that people want the gear change albeit semi-automatic as much over here. The Super cub 125 sadly hasn't sold as many as Honda would have liked to and yet, If I could just have a basic C110 super cub with spoked wheels, a flat seat and drum brakes, I'd jump at one.

Pretty hard going really it’s the time it takes compared to bigger bikes which we have got and done it on people shouldn’t feel so cocky doing on bike bikes, in my opinion it’s a piece of piss on a big bike.

What the gearing like on the innova I'm buying one in a few days

    • @scootyman2974
      @scootyman2974  3 роки тому

The answer would depend on what you want the gearing to do. The thing is with the innova in general is it is a long stroke engined scooter that makes maximum torque low down in the Rev range. It’s not one for being hurried but the usability is great. You can change the sprockets smaller or larger if you are heavier or looking for an overall higher cruising gear. Best this is to ride it for three months and see if it does what you want it to do before changing it.
      Good luck

      Hi Paul,
A nice low mileage well maintained one yes. If not, the new Supercub is an option albeit maybe a too pretty one for daily use but I guess it’s designed for that. I’d love a Supercub with a set of spiked wheels for work and a slightly wider fairing and high screen. That would be great.
      Best regards

Alex Schmidt sadly since the recession in 2007/2008, cheap has been the business strategy of many and quality is harder to find. I have noticed though that the quality is returning and we have a new bike that shows just that. All the best for 2017

It does need more gears though. Reminds me of my old C90 - thrashing in second or bogged down in third.

Simon Sackett an extra gear might be good. Recently I've been riding scooters with CVT and as much as I like the control of a manual or semi auto, I'm growing to love CVT a little more each day. infinite ratios only controlled by the amount of power you have works. I'm considering adding another 3 BHP and 3 NM of torque with an upgrade on my S Wing 125 to make it more useable. It doesn't sound much but when you only have 13 bhp to start with, that's a decent amount extra to have especially with CVT.
The C90 will always be the king of scooters in my heart. I'm waiting till I move and a project will be underway.

Bit of a fraud,What's the point of filming a spectacular pass in thick mist, not a WHITE OUT by the way that is in snow and in clear weather the Bealach is best seen in the other direction. Also not the highest road in Scotland, that is the Cairnwell

You’re right John, I’m a total fraud. What a b*****d eh? I’ll have to have a word with god and ask him to make it sunny when I go over the pass next time. But I shouldn’t worry so much. With your expertise you shouldn’t be so disappointed with my rubbish footage when you’ve clearly been there and done it all yourself. Clearly you did it so much better than me. Which is why I stopped filming UA-cam videos because I got sick of keyboard muppets like yourself leaving junk remarks like that.
Nobody asked you to watch my video. Vote with your finger and click on something else 😛

      Kirby Kirkbride
      Hi Kirby,
It’s a long story but in short I sold my business, moved to Scotland, retrained for work, bought a house and I’m midway through a complete refurbishment. Oh and I’m a dad now too so quite a bit has happened.
I do fully intend at some point to come back with more content but at the moment my channel is on the back burner.
I have still got the Vision 110 and I also bought a CBF1000 which I have toured most of the Highlands on.
Let me get through the winter and get some walls and ceilings up in my house and I will post some content soon.
      Best regards
