The thing about a 401, you're stuck in it till you retire, you can only buy stocks, bonds, cash, and a REIT or two. You cannot buy commodities. They want you stuck in their dollar, they will not allow you to buy gold or any commodities. My 401 is all cash and there is nothing I can do with it, I'm losing to inflation BIG TIME, I'm not buying stocks now, I got out, and who knows what rate it will be taxed at when I can use it, and that's if the dollar doesn't inflate 1000% or more. I think the State jobs have a 403b anyway but it's the same thing.
