Long before the birth of Budha there was a very advance Khmer civilization Kingdom of Nokor Phnum( the Chinese call us Funan) in Kampuchea Krom. In the 1st century( over a 1,200 year before Angkor) the city port O Keo( glass canal) was very rich n advance. There canal connected to every city in the Kingdom. O Keo was also the center of trading in S.E Asia. Trading with Europe, India, China n other. In the 7th century the other Khmer Kingdom the Chenla invaded Funan n united these two Kingdom n call it Moha Nokor. This is when we became very rich n powerful
from what the instructor was saying in the video, khorm was the original word of khmer and the word khmer derived from the word khorm or korm. This is probably true since Thai called us Khorm/Korm other than Khmer.
The form is not really similar with I what I learn from the ancestor, traditional khmer martial art is soft complex like traditional dancer, apsara, or hanuman
I,m Khmer from Kampuchea Krom n I don't think Khorm = Khmer Krom. To be honest there is no such thing as Khmer Krom, Khmer Kandal, Khmer Leur or Khmer Surin. Is just the name giving base on the region. When I grow up in Kampuchea Krom I never heard of Khmer Krom until I came to the USA. We only known as Khmer. What I been told how we call ourself Khmer is that in the Ancient time our people are known as Khorm. So Khorm is our mother. Khorm+Me( mother) = khome. The Vietnamese still call us Khome. When the French came they pronounce Khmer
My theory of "Khom" is probably when Ancient Mon people intermarried with Ancient Khmer people. This is why the language mon-khmer language is similar. I believe Ancient Mon people address the word "Khom" as ancient khmer and by the time the Tai migrated. The Tai probably picked up the word from the Mon.
the theory that khom = Khmer krom is defunct. There is clear evidence that suggest Khom were the ancient Mon people of SEA. Khom is just a name used by the Tai people to call the ancient inhabitants of SEA. Dating the appearances of Khom in historic records and the geographical locations of Khmers show us that it does not match. Unless you tell me that Khmers were in Taungoo in 1603 :) that is black and white evidence who the Khom were.
