- In this episode, we get the rafter boards up…so we almost have a ROOF! (If only that metal roofing would arrive….🤔)
This OFF GRID SAW SHACK is all coming together! It’s really starting to look like a building now!
Tune in to see the quick & easy way we installed these rafters!

The saw shed is coming along nicely. Keep the videos coming. 👍
Thanks, Steve! It sure is finally starting to look like something!
What number rafter ties did you use and what size /length screws into the back of the header? Great Build! I'll be putting my wood shed up this Spring.
Thanks so much! Rafter ties are MiTek 5-1/4 inch x 1-9/16 inch rafter to stud anchor ties (PT15-TZ Ref # H1Z, quantity 30). The screws we fastened them into with are #8 outdoor screws, 1.5 inch. (NOTE: we accidentally put them on flipped-didn’t notice until we were finished 😳-ours should be flipped so the vertical lip rests on header. Look at the installation instructions for the ones you buy.)
Can't wait till it's done. You can buy me a burger to celebrate . lol
What are the heights of the front and back walls? Is that a 15° roof angle?
Front wall is 91 inches, back wall is 67 inches, & roof angle is about 14 degrees.
Great idea on rafters! New shed here I come! Was this lumber from your mill?
Thanks, Kirk! Yes, from our mill, though we did end up a little short & had to purchase some wood for the Saw Shack just so we could finish it up before snow fell.
Did you saw all the building material
Not quite all of it…some of what we had milled cracked & we were unable to use those boards, & we were racing another Nature before winter hit, so we had to buy some of the lumber to finish in time.
