Great acoustics on those boxes. And your use of matching and contrasting components makes for a great looking CBG.
7 a.m. Those are the nicest sounding and looking. That I have seen. Excellent job!!!
Once again your level of quality workmanship is top notch. Sound great as well.
They both look and sound ABSOLUTELY AWESOME
More magic, they all sound great Michael.
Michael your are a man after my own heart! I love the hammered look of the jack plate and string anchor. Nice work. I was a Head Saw Filer for part of my work career and did a LOT of hammering on saws at the bench. Glad yer left thumb is still the same size as it was before you started! LOL Nice work! Thanks for sharing. It sounds Awesome too.
Thanks brother. I have to be very careful, NOT to hit my thumb, I need that thumb to hold my guitar neck when I'm playing LOL 😎
Good morning from Minnesota. Many blessings..... Its only 8 degrees here! 🤪
I have both of them boxes. Havent built the flathead yet because I didnt think it would sound good as acoustic but you just changed my mind. Now the other Gurkha box I built a three string fretless and used a thin neck and included a torsion bar. I used a Lace pickup and it sounds awesome. I cut out Khukri shaped "F" holes and love the sound. Nice job on both of them guitars. I wish I could send you a pic of mine! I think you'd like it! I also got the larger Gurkha box I was thinking of making a six string and using two Lace pickups.
ive been staring at a gurka box for a few years now and finally saw what i need to do. thanks
Always good to hear from a fellow Floridian,....👍..great work really nice.
Ohh man!!! I think those are three of the finest cbgs you have made so far. They look great and sound awesome!!!! Thanks for all the videos you put out, they are always entertaining and very informative.
I just got a couple of boxes and one was a flathead 660. Very cool looking and can’t wait to use it.
They sound great as usual, great job Michael
Good Job! Both sound GREAT!!
They have a series of different sizes of the Flathead boxes.
I make Ukulele's from the smaller boxes, 3-string's, 4-strings, and even 6-strings. I plan on making a bass next.
First, I trim the lids so that they are not raised and make the lid the same height all the way around.
Next, I remove the knobs off the tuner pegs, I then cement small sparkplugs on each tuner, for the knobs.
I accent each box with various auto or motorcycle decals.
And use various pickups on different builds.
The wooden one with the P90 sounded so much warmer! That would be my ⛏️ For sure!
OMG! Michael, you are amazing, they are beautiful and their tone is pure “Yellowstone”! Nicely done!
Both looked and sounded great. I liked the flathead best. It sounded really good acousticily. I like em. 👍
Michael hello from the uk. They both sound fantastic especially the ghosting pickup love that. Thank you for all the great builds and inspiration you provide 😊
All look and sound great 😊
sounds great
I'm not gonna lie, when I saw the video where you were showing the original boxes and asking for suggestions, I didn't think those boxes would make good CBGs. But I was wrong. You did a beautiful job taking advantage of some funky box geometry, and did a great job preserving the original boxes. And they all sound incredible. Nicely done.
Thank you, Beerbatter, they were definitely out of my wheel house a bit, but came out great. M~ 😎
Very nice, they both look great.
Hi Michael, well I am shocked at how good the Flathead sounds acoustic! You had given me this link o Facebook. I expected the Flathead to sound good as an electric guitar, but to sound like a wet brown paper sack as acoustic but, I eat my words (with some mustard for flavor!) I will definitely build mine using your build as a general guide!
Thanks! Mike Simpson
Thanks Mike. It did have a great sound, I was surprised. Yes, build that thing. lol
Man they turned out awesome .
My friend, These are amazing. they look and sound great. great builds. I kinda dig the gun fire in the back round. Someone beside you was having fun
Hey Steve, Thanks. lol. I didn't realize how loud it was until I watched the video back. I hear that a lot out here lol
I made a flathead 660 neck through. Nice work you do .Greatings from Belgium
As always looks and sounds great. You deserve the title of Master Builder!!
I discovered the Flathead box a couple months ago and built me a three string resonator into/from/with it. If I remember correctly, the lid isn’t overly vibrating, hence why I think (again, with my memory (due to brain growths affecting the old grey matter) I could be remembering wrongly) I decided on the resonator guitar. It’s pretty cool, complete with a white Lace Pickup with great rock-esque breakup!
Just getting to the end of your video now (I commented as soon as you showed the box and I recognised it). Well, you’ve certainly not got any issues with a lack of vibration! Them’s good vibrations, Brother!! Love it. I’ll show mine when I’m able to play guitar again, whenever that’s going to be having just had a stroke two weeks ago and no use on my left hand side. I’m tellin’ ya’, I’m just falling apart over here! I think I might be getting dry rot or summet!! 😮
not an easy box to build, that's for sure, but a good sounding one. M~
Just awesome!
They sound AWESOME! I would have us knobed a spark plug for volume knob.
That looks fantastic bro
a Both sound great and they all look great too.
Looks good. I ran across them before.
Your decision to keep the boxes intact worked out nice, both sound very good. My comment before the build suggested cutting the 770 boxes down, but keeping the original depth really gave a nice sound. The crate box is laid out nice and sounds better than I imagined it would. I've been rounding off sharp corners (routing) on my builds. I wonder if you like to modify your boxes or keep true to the original box? Great job on getting the most out of challenging boxes!
Thanks Adam. I mostly keep true to the original box, but sometimes I like to go OFF the rails lol
Awesome job!!
Look & sound great as usual with your work Michael! I’ve got a flathead box, may make that my next build!
Sounds sweet!!!
Awesome, As usual.
I really like the flathead , sounds great. The widen one sounds good too! ❤
Sweet stuff!
Love it
Heck yeah! 🤘
Awesome!
Awesome
With some boxes you have more room to put the bridge, but this one was very limited. From what I could see you put the bridge in the only place you had to not deface the look. My question is did you measure from the bridge to the nut to determine the scale length or the other way around?
I was making it on a 25'' scale. I built the neck so the bridge would be in that spot. :)
Hello Michael, I'm Chuck McCoy from Eastern Kentucky and I recently finished my first cigar box guitar. I pre ordered the slotted fret board and went as simple as possible just to assure myself that I could build one. It turned out pretty decent and now I want to learn even more. If you don't mind, my question is what are your favorite scale lengths? I've noticed that some of yours are 25 scale length. Have you experimented with other lengths? Another question is how do you feel about the rod style piezos with preamps installed?
Hey Chuck. Congreats of your first CBG build. I use to build a lot on a 23'' scale, but now I mostly do 25's. Ive never used a rod piezo or pre amps. M~
❤
El sonido es Beatifull👌🎛️🍀🛸📣...Acusticamente👌❤️🎚️🫶
O yea
Do you have a video for # 580 cgb
Hey Steve, I don't a video on #580, but it plays and sounds great with that P90 pickup. M~ 😎
I am posting a video today, and playing #580 in the outro. M~
Beautiful....I love your creativity and ingenuity! Ok, I am a little anal so on that crate guitar...you got to line all the screws on the pickup so they are symmetrical....I know stupid suggestion but that is the first place my eyes go and it takes away from the beauty of the guitar....sorry! Noo I don't have OCD but small things like that make me crazy...kinda like seeing a picture on the wall and you KNOW it is NOT level!! They all sound awesome acoustically and plugged in! YOU ROCK!
Anyone on here that could help me out on a few tweks on my cigar box guitar please thank you.
You inspire me Michael.
