I live pretty much next to the line and the 68s were by far the loudest locos that passed and depending on the wind what end the loco was on I could even here them idling at Lea Green I recorded one at Victoria at 100dB and 96 at Lea Green, sadly these wont be coming back on Chat Moss in December but I will take a 185 as Im not keen on the 802s.
I live nearly 3 miles uphill and away from High Wycombe station on the Chiltern Line but every morning I hear the class 68's leaving Wycombe station towards B/ham roaring away as they negotiate the slightly twisty route and uphill gradient. I love all things with a petrol or diesel engine and the sound of a 68 on full chat is music to my ears. Balls to any cretin that wants to electrify the line.
Huge noise and waste of power for Mark5 Formations. Class 57s if newly refurbished and in good condition would be the ideal traction instead class 67s and 68s on push-pull duties in my opinion and nothing against class 68s that i like but simply are not suitable for their current passengers duties. If class 88s were propper bi-mode locos, they would be a good option. Hope in the future DRS consider to replace the Last Minute Diesel engine for a more powerful. Nice captures.
I was thinking repurposed ex-Class 60's with the Mk5's would be better for traction as EMD are looking at putting the same CAT unit into 60014 at Longport apparently. Also 6 powered axles would boost acceleration too,
I live about a mile away from Acocks Green Station and can tell when a Class 68 is approaching and passing through, it has such a distinctive roar.

4:44 Is that the Enterprise? Now that's a Class 68 deserving of the name.
Indeed, the 68s have some very fitting names
Lovely sounds
I love 68s there the best locos in the world 🌎 by a mile
