- Chris Froome turned the cycling world upside down on the 19th stage of the 2018 Giro d'Italia. What Chris Froome did on Finistere shouldn't and isn't possible for most riders, but Chris Froome isn't most riders! It's officially the best summer day in the UK this year so Chris, Vik and I all decided to take the day off but instead we had been working on this video. It's a totally different style to what we usually produce so please do let us know what you think about it! - We've also got a 10% discount sale on our #MugClub and #TeeClub, reply to this comment and we'll let you know what the code is!
This is good you need to do more of these. There are lots of froome moments that need this treatment (attack with Sagan, the downhill attack for example). But you need to do some of the others you mention too eg the Shleck/Contador battles. Voeckler defence. Superb.
@@RobBrown1991 Thank you Robert! I think for next Sunday we'll cover Roglic and he's rise to fame considering he's currently the biggest favourite to win the Vuelta.
@@chrispritch Andy Hampsten put in a legendary attack like this one in 1988. I believe it was stage 14, he attacked on the Gavia in a snow storm and rode away from the field. He ended up winning GC, it was an amazing moment in cycling. Unfortunately, not a lot of good footage from that day tho.
NewtonCountry yes indeed one of the great Tour winning attacks in cycling history.... Except it was the Giro.... In a snowstorm
5:25 the great Floyd Landis.... Froomey pulled a Landis..... If Lance Armstrong never existed Floyd might have won 3 Tours and tied the Great Greg LeMond.... Cleanly.... But Armstrong was a realist and his results show that
The amount of times the logo interrupted this video was way over the top.
So fucking annoying right?
Yupppp it's like a subtle brainwashing
One reason not to subscribe
@@ian-robinson Y'all get annoyed too easy, chill
Oscar ley my solution is more effective.
One of the best days of my life. What a stage, what a Giro! Thanks from Brazil.
I would have forgotten who's show this was if they didn't tell me every ten seconds
Chris Pritchard's innit.....😂😊
I feel very blessed to have watched that stage from start to Finnish. I was so stoked from him.
It's the kind of stage where you hold your breath from start to finish. Probably one of the most epic stages in recent history. /Jesper
SO true
Hris Froome has provided the two most iconic moments in cycling if not sport in recent years.. His run up Ventoux and this... The incredible statement to show what a force he is.
One thing remains in my thoughts about all this heroic, absolutely unbelievable sporting performance, and that thing was a quote by an Australian pro riding for a German team back in 2001. I quote: „Everyone is taking something, or do you really believe riders can ride the Tour de France and other such tours without taking anything“? He continued to say that if everyone is doing it, no one has an advantage.
Well said Pal!
‘ You cannot win The Tour on water and baguette alone. ‘ Eddy Merckx said that!!
😉👍🏼
Wait til you see Pogacar/Roglic in 2024!! I'm with you, though~ I HOPE Chris Froome wasn't doping, as I hope no-one is now, but I do see how the sport has focused more and more on nutrition, training (esp high alt.), recovery, technology, etc., with the result being faster and faster times. But as many have said~ if they're all doping, nobody has an advantage except with their legs, their will, and their ability to endure and transcend suffering. Vive' le cycling!!! I love it 😍🚴
Great Froome. Like to see more! Thankyou
Great video. And you released it on my mums birthday, I am guessing that is just a coincidence though. Epic.
A great event we all witnessed and a great video too. ✅
Loved this please more of this content. You guys do an awesome job!!!👍👊
Thank you Kraig! We'll do another video on Sunday so keep an eye out! /Jesper
Greatest ride I have ever seen
Unrivalled in recent history, but I think there'll be someone to top this ride during the 2019 Vuelta a Espana. /Jesper
@@chrispritch Perhaps
He's definitely one of the greatest motorbiker ever !
For me frooms giro effort was the craziest but there are many more iconic moments. Cancellara defending the yellow by attacting 1k befor the line, stegmanns beating boonen in the sprit or cavendish's iconic champs aux Elysee sprint.
Certainly defending the yellow for days like alaphilippe is a big effort and still iconic it does not feel the same as a short crazy moment
In the days before comms, when it was chalkboards providing the data, riders could attack and escape. Information relays have largely killed the surprise factor in cycling.
one of the best stages ever. I was expecting a lot more from this video but it contains limited footage, minutes of repeating logos and a lot more planning has gone into this attack which is not explained. too bad!
This was really cool thanks for the great video!
I’m a great fan of Chris, and I believe that was on of the most epic moments in recent cycling.
But you mentioned the epic moments of the past, you forgot to name one the greatest of all times: Marco Pantani!
NOBODY forgets The Pirate.
In my view Froome is WAY dirtier than him. I am an ex racer - I know what is, and isn't possible.
Having said that, in my youth, I always just assumed LeMond doped... so... I would LOVE to be wrong.
But I do miss Pantani. Too few colourful characters in today's peloton.
Keep up the work👍🏿🙏
Which microphone is that? great content, you got a new fellow Subscriber on your channel. :)
It is also crazy that this was his final grand tour win.
he did landis. i hope he doesnt make oprah in 10 years time
But, but... he's got asthma.
@@GerLeahy haha.... indeed..
lol
@@GerLeahy Strange that he hasn't won anything since the investigation, eh? Understanding he broke his leg last year, but even between the investigation and the accident, zero results.
Yeah the day i realise he is doped, same as watching Armstrong.
INEOS GRENADIERS, G is an insane rider!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This was well done. I enjoyed it.
Thank you very much! We’re planning on another story on Sunday.
whats with the monster mic?
Specific moment : Andy Hampsten - Gavia 1988.
Unbelievable. Was so looking forward to his return this year. After his big accident last year most folk would right him off competing at this level. Just hope we see something special in the coming year/years.
So, what does that logo say? I didn't see it often enough to be able to read it.
He should've never started that Giro after the sambutamol case in the Vuelta. Big shame to UCI.
tveening not really.... If anything it's more likely for a suspicious rider to be exposed as a fraud during a race while under investigation.... The UCI would be best to learn from Armstrong and never allow teams to indoctrinate riders into wholesale doping programs ever again or this sport will be flushed down the toilet by its surviving fans
Andy Schleck’s «the look»
Great video 👏🏻👏🏻
Appreciate the nice words Andrew. /Jesper
I enjoyed your video but it was a little missing on some crucial facts - the chase group was more than just disorganised, Pinot had to pull out of the race the next day from exhaustion, so it's unlikely he was 100%, and Carapaz and Lopez weren't interested in helping Dumoulin at all, they were fighting just each other for the young riders jersey. So it is more realistic to say the chase group was severely handicapped, not just disorganised, only Reichenbach was able to really assist Dumoulin, and we know what he thought of that!
Also, they were all clearly taken by complete surprise by Sky's tactics from quite early on, not just when the break occurred, Froome was able to pace himself in preparation for the huge effort while Dumoulin and Pinot were probably hoping for some rest before the final climb at least.
Also, on a technical point, you can't do the impossible, it's impossible :-)
Plenty of people call this performance BS, but he isolated his opposition and created a favourable situation. Close to a 1v1 scenario. This isnt a Landis scenario where he beat a whole peloton.
Pogacar's 2020 time trial
Shame it went wrong, Jespers a good guy!
And lance Armstrong on alpe d’huez
Yup I think this was peak Froome.
Too many mid roll ads mate! Only 10 minutes of content. This is ITV levels
Bills to pay unfortunately....
@@chrispritch makes it's really hard to watch mate.
After that and 7 grand tour titles, Sky / Ineos said he doesn't want him anymore!
Great cycling story on Chris Froome, fantastic! I'm subscribed.
Excellent video ! but the sound is just too loud .!! I can barely hear Froome voice
I mean the MUSIC !!!
Why on Earth would you feature Floyd Landis stage when drug test from that very stage disqualified him for the tdf win and virtually destroyed his career. Well he destroyed his own career actually because he's the biggest Punk Sports ever seen. Landis proved he could not ride without the dope. He was a mule trying to turn into a racehorse with any substance he could stick in his body. What he was actually guilty of in that tour was transfusing blood and that's what explained his win on that stage, not some testosterone which doesn't have an immediate effect anyway. Contador gets a statement on Lance Armstrong? Lance had shattered his collarbone in late March. Contador got a gap on one particular stage about a minute 20 and Lance became the perfect support rider for Contador along with arguably the greatest cycling team ever put together. Armstrong, Contador, Andreas Kloden, Levi Leipheimer, Sergio Paulino, Jaroslav Popovich, haimar zubeldia with Gregory Rast pulling them on the flats. and don't forget Lance only finished seconds behind him on Mount freaking Ventoux. but you're right about this being a phenomenal stage.
good production value, nice voiceover. However, if you are trying to do compelling content, the ads DURING the video and shameless self promo screens DURING the story are just very annoying. With so much out there it is very easy just to click out. Get the sponsorship before and after and it will be much better. Just my 2 cents
Yeah, could be a lot of chemistry that helped him
He probably ‚did a Landis‘, if you know what I mean.
How about ALL THINGS EDDY MERCKX!!
Lol
Doping does amazing things
Lose the flashing Logo and the HUGE Mic in your face. Other than that, not bad
Can't get behind this. Literally months and months of arbitration for the UCI to say "salbutamol doesn't affect Froome like WADA says it does ;)" and then the integrity of the sport is magically restored and Froome wins another Grand Tour in the process. No thank you.
SkeetSystem correct
...in the most blatant, 'I am obviously cheating but you wont dare bring me to account for it' way possible...
Yeah. It was a depressing day for sure.
Leave this craic to the Aussie fella
There's plenty of room for all us in the pool! /Jesper
An Andy schleck ?
Ending your video with "He did a Floyd Landis" was LAME when we know Landis' effort was drug fueled --It seemed to me there was innuendo in it?
but it WAS a floyd landis. It was an impossible ride, drug fueled. don't tell me you think froome / ineos are not a drug team after what has gone on...??
@@nonfictionone But who has any basis for saying that? They went so far as making public his nutrition plan during the Giro and to be honest putting all the shit people put on Froome aside, he's a legendary rider, on a different level than Wiggins, Contador, Quintana, Dumoulin etc, even though other riders are held in higher regard. Don't forget that this is a guy who won 4 TdFs, arguably had one stolen from him by his team, came damn close the year he won this Giro. There are only 4 riders in history who have won 5 Tours (putting aside Armstrong), they're all legends. With Froome we're witnessing history, it will be more so if manages to win his 5th after that freak accident, yet we seem to throw shit at him. Even if he doesn't win a 5th Tour, this guy has been nothing but exemplary throughout his career on and off the bike, 4 Tours, 2 Vueltas, 1 Giro is something you just take your hat off to.
Even putting all of his achievements aside, putting that on any rider without justification/proof is despicable. Even coming into this Giro he was crucified by everyone because of the leaked details of his positive test. The Giro even went as far as to ask him not the start the race, which is nothing but stupid. Can't we just give people benefit of the doubt instead of outright crucifying them?
@@canibanoglu9643 each has their own attitude and response to doping I guess. i prefer not to put it aside. The drug testers know this is clearly a doping team - a doping TEAM, just like the late 90's. Just like Astana. Why did sky drop them like a hot potato. Because they don't want this drug team destroying their brand. Religion, politics, your favorite sports team/person - these are things where many people switch off their human faculties and take positions not based on critical logic. Not me. I follow the facts.
The biggest boost nowadays in cyclism isn't biological doping, it's motors. And yeah, there are quite a few who use them, it's clear as day.
The race looks so differently from fan footage. Like just a group going for a ride haha. But seriously, stop showing your damn logo every second.
That annoying logo every now and then made me unsubscribe
That logo is at everytime there is an youtube ad ;) Adblocker?
Chris Froome running up Ventoux has to be the most memorable moment for me.
Scott Morris and doing it with clips, I would look like a new born calf trying to walk doing that
Rump, that is why I decided to go with a mountain biking shoe. Easier to walk. I also commute a lot. I didnt see road shoes as worth it. Still dont for what I ride. I'm no pro. Just for fun.

....beast of a cyclist. Whoa, how did the brand/logo cutaway manage to get in my comment as well, geez??
Remember being at my parents house, getting a push notification that froome had gone with 80k to go and not believing it. Rushed home to watch it. Ended up watching it live, then the highlights and as soon as the highlights finishing watching it again on +1. Incredible. My dad asked me the next day "is the British boy still winning"
There are some things missing. Froomes team calculated how much and when he needs to eat an drink while the other teams needed to react which made also a big diffrence
His e-bike performed very well that day
@@DanielSong39 if you go by that than you must believe than everyone uses one and froome still outperformed them.
@@princessaka3189 Well there's another league for that though. It's called MotoGP
@@DanielSong39 i didnt say that they do it just that if froome has s e bike that everyone else has one too. Same with doping during Armstrong's time almost everyone used doping. So either you believe they are clean or not but at the end you watched the video so either way it would probably not change that🤷🏻♀️
Edit: the only thing i said is that froome had the perfect prep and the prefect eating stat while the other had to react and that is a huge advantage.
@@DanielSong39 that's been totally disproven....FACT
Cmon you've gotta mention the fact that floyd wasn't just doping, dude was literally on testosterone.
Disliked the video for it. Like comon wtf, just talking about a hardcore cheater as if he accomplished something special?
@@smeagolhaas He's going mainstream LOL
I think he means more that for the Lance generation.
Testosterone is more of a training aid. It doesn’t help in the short term that much. Although he admitted to doping in general, I’m not sure he actually used it during that time (I might be wrong though).
I remember i was working and the news about this stage came on the radio my dad and i were like wat the fack! And our boss let us go home to watch the rest of it
Enjoyed this - would love to see the whole 80k, as I remember it being nail biting at the time!

Haha! Floyd gets 2 mentions.
He's probably celebrating by smoking a doobie. 😊😊
For the "older generation" it would be some of the epic moments created by Eddie Merckx.
Poulidor vs Anquetil or Merckx
The Landis move didn't add up. it stank!

Damn fax
An absolutely epic race, not just about cycling, equipment and technique. He showed everyone the heart and belief that the impossible could be made possible. On top of that he is quite humble about it, considering how this feat is so widely recognised for it's stunning achievement.

I'm watching from 4 years in the future, and all I can say is, "You ain't seen nothin' yet"! 2024 Pogacar/Roglic!!!!
Great video. I would suggest also profiling Contador’s amazing ride on the Motorolo when he had a flat, was passed by Aru and Landa, but he went on to catch up with them and pass them. Just an amazing feat.
Thank you Brian! Yeah that's the day he conqured the Giro, that has to be a video! /Jesper
Hey guys
A bit of a viewer critique here.
Analysis videos are the BEST! Lanterne Rouge and Charlie, Carbs and Cyclings videos are better than 95% of all other cycling content on UA-cam. So it’s great to see you guys getting involved.
BUT WHAT THE HELL WAS THIS? It seems like you took the “blowing up the giro” vid and just ripped it off with your own (forgive me for saying) corny take on it.
I reckon you guys could do these analysis videos really well, with this German guy giving us facts and intelligent insights and Chris being a goofy northerner and giving us some banter. But I just thought this was a bit lame to be honest.
Just my opinion.
Thanks 🤙🏼
Got to love how they didn't give credit to any of the video or audio clips they used as none of this, except the narration, is original material.
And this is why Froome is as successful as he is. The guy is phenomenal.
We hope he comes back next year, he deserves a 5th Tour de France win. /Jesper
like Landis
I think Yates was trying to ride away from that ugly ass helmet he was wearing. Has there EVER been an uglier helmet in the peloton? There was that crazy Russian helmet in American Flyers, but not sure anything close to the ugliness of Yate's lid.
what a lot of people don't mention is that Froome is a very good and efficient descender. throw in his time trial and climbing abilities, the leaders being spent and the power of the sky train, he made this stage work to his advantage. it makes me hopeful that he was able to accomplish this without "help"
Greatest ride ever???? Did someone forget about Eddy Merckx???????
Froome's legendary ride on stage 19 was reminiscent of what Merckx used to do all the time. Sadly Yates was always going to fail in the third week , he was forced to put to much into the first two weeks.
Dopping
the first ever grand tour i ever went to and the second live stage i ever saw.. stage 19 2018 giro,, i was up th emountain at the end, will never forget getting off my bike at the top, hearing over the speaker that yates had blown up and fromme had gone solo.. goose pimples.. amazing.
my favourite grand tour, and this edition was the best. i was rooting for Yates, but this stage was the greatest i have seen.
Nice layout, great clips and footage, few off-camera insights, minimum monologue. Perhaps sit off to the side instead of leaning around the mic, or shoot from an angle. Just my two cents. All the best with your channel.

One of the best stages of a grand tour I've seen, definitely up there with the best, great analysis video also guys, would love to see more 👍🏻
Thank you Paul! Keep an eye out for next Sunday. The best one prior to this was probably Peter Sagan and Chris Froome attacking in the cross winds.
I had the whole thing saved on my PVR for months after, and watched the key moments over several times. Sadly forced to delete for space. Haven't heard of a way to save stuff off a PVR, so too bad. The tube's always there though...
Moves like this are very very rare! A lot of things had to go right for Froome and basically nothing wrong. I mean what if Yates didn't get dropped? What if Dumoulin had a master descender in front of him to follow? What if Froome had cracked even for 30 seconds? And just imagine too that everyone (the riders and the public) knows how much the gap is growing and he still got away. Even with Floyd Landis' move there are many variables that had to happen for it to be successful. (Regardless of the testosterone & EPO in his body). But you gotta give it to Froomie for even having the guts to attempt such a risky move. Like he said "It was all or nothing!"
Those e-bikes really do work huh? 🤔 incredible!
Why mention Landis other than to cast doubt on Froome’s efforts here. Frankly offended you even show his picture.
Nothing is impossible if you have the right drugs
Froome is insane!!!!!!!!!😀😀😀😀😀😀
What about Charly Gaul in the 1958 TDF or Bernard Hinault in the 1980 Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
wonder how many inhalers he used on that day???
The day Chris Froome did the impossible pretty much sums it up for me, he did the impossible.
It was dope
on your spot you forgot Nibali in 2014, you forgot epic Pantani , how you can show that Armstrong as an example of climbing...come on....
I agree with Giuseppe, Pantani at the 1998 Tour destroyed everyone and took the yellow jersey in really bad weather conditions.
Epic stage you’ll never forget. No one could imagine that Froome could do this
😂😂🤣🤣 ridiculous....
I watch this video every once in a while. For obvious reasons. Now, and in light of recent events, Tour De France 2020, there should be a similar one. Get it? 😉
