Just ordered this book. It's now 20 quid on Amazon. Thanks for reviewing this otherwise I'd never have known this existed. Loving the channel, I've been binging your videos for the last week. Love the humour and honest approach. You have a genuine flair for this stuff, making creative and interesting videos. I would say it wouldn't matter what you were making videos on, they'd be interesting. o7
I just bought this book locally in Sweden for around 20 pounds last month but mine isn’t a fancy hardcover with coloured bands 😭 Did not realise there was a fancier version. And I am a fancy gentleman that likes fancy stuff! Love the book though 👏👏
From wiki: Tripe is a type of edible lining from the stomachs of various farm animals. Most tripe is from cattle, pigs and sheep. Are you not entertained!? 🙂
Just seeing you flick past the page featuring the greatest video game protagonist ( The Magic Knight) has really peaked my interest in getting this book.
You are right about the magenta ribbon, that's entirely the kind of TINY thing that would bug me from an otherwise delightful book design.......I mean, if you're going THIS far, go all the way!
I've only just got the notification from Patreon, I was about to say "How the bloody hell did you end up here?" haha. Had a mild panic on that I'd accidentally released this today!
Thanks for this great review. I have this book too. Overall, I liked the snippets of interviews in the book, and there were some great bits of nostalgia. But my main gripe is the oversized (and zoomed in) screenshots over two pages, making the games look blockier than they already were and reducing the content. This is not how I remembered the games and would prefer them smaller; giving more room for more screenshots, analysis, or interviews.
I think I'm the opposite on that, although I totally understand your side of the issue. I think seeing these images blown up gives the games a sort of lego-block structure, allowing you to see each individual pixel and the work that went into them. There's something about the big chunky blocks that really digs out a bit more appreciation for me. Would be nice to see a bit of both though, perhaps!
Great vid as usual! But damn, I thought this was a new book, but after checking my library I found I already bought it a few years ago. I need a way to wipe my memory so I can enjoy it again.
Great video I loved it when you said about wanting to hear about how people feel. I totally agree I hope my channel is as much about how I feel about what I cover as yours is :). PS Are you going to Crash Live in a couple of weeks?
@@RoseTintedSpectrum Pity it would have been good to see you there. Paul and I are doing a live version of The Spectrum Show it would have been good to talked to your afterwards.
I just went on your link to bitmap books and the only way to describe my feelings while browsing all their books is like when Alan partridge realises Dan is his soulmate (before he finds out they're "sex people"). The problem I have though is which do I buy first, do I buy more than 1 and will my Mrs understand that I really do need them.
I've accidentally got 3 now. I've not even got round to reading the last couple yet as I'm halfway through Masters of Doom! They've kindly sent me a copy of I'm Too Young To Die, which is their newest one - and I've also got the collectors edition up for grabs which will be given away during a charity stream in April. Something to keep in mind if you feel lucky!
@@RoseTintedSpectrum I saw I'm too young to die at the top of the page, then kept scrolling and realised the rabbit hole you have sent me down, even the war of the worlds and micro machines books look great and wasn't exactly what I was expecting.
I felt my hand reaching for my mouse to click the unsubscribe button as you were saying the words "I don't like pixel art"... ¬.¬ Don't do me like this! You win me back with the word 'Amiga' though.

I've read a couple of Bitmap books in the past, they're all really great reads!
All these voice overs! For some reason I imagined your kitchen being full of UA-camrs all vying to get to the microphone and record their bit.
Don't be daft, I keep them all in the dungeon.
Where they bloody belong.
Dynamite Dan has jumping on the head of enemies?!
Id love a video collecting the titles that use that mechanicb😂 (Turbo the Tortoise is awesome 😎)

What's the top three Swedish ZX games in history? I'd love a country to challenge Russia 😂
I think the Dynamite Dan sprite just looks like any bloke waiting to use the self service machine in ASDA
Looks like a great Christmas present for any Speccy fan.
I adore the stories people tell and the nostalgic memories. Far more fun than ripping any old tripe from wikipedia

No.
Thank you so much, great review. Much appreciated 🙌
Much deserved!

Love the Chase HQ Speccy tune at the start. Awesome!
First person to mention it! Good spot
Lovely stuff! 📚
These compendiums are very lovely. I have the Master System one and I never even owned a Master System.
“Jesus will cry”😂😂
I've been tempted by these for a while. may have to give some Christmas hints

Dynamite Dan (and the sequel) came packaged with Spectaculator. Still haven't played it!
