- Laura Branigan was invited to the American TV program "Can We Shop? Starring Joan Rivers". The show had daily specials. Today, among the specials was a package of Laura Branigan's albums. The 1st "Branigan" and the current "Over My Heart". A great interview in which Laura made a fast status update, recalling the back story of "Gloria" and talked about the new songs from her recent work. Finally singing, wonderfully, the beautiful ballad "It's Been Hard Enough Getting Over You". At the end, Joan stayed fascinated with Laura!! (February 24, 1994) Enjoy and share!.

*Special thanks to Leanne Kingsbury for her huge contribution with the Laura's legacy and also for my best friend, Holly Taylor for her essential help in this wonderful mission.

Always one of my favorites - I still regularly listen to her music today - 40 years later! She left this earth way too soon.
She's my my all-time favorite! Classy lady! RIP!
Unrequited loves? Bedazzles my mind that a woman loved by so many she never even knew could have ever loved someone who didn't love her.
Thank you so much, LBH, for sharing memories with those of us who will never forget this lovely, kind hearted, and gracious lady.
I'd never seen this. A real treat. Laura was a legend, with such an emotive, haunting voice. And Joan - one of a kind.
I never knew Debra Wilson was on this type of show.
Laura Laura Laura .. you were such a wonderful woman and it is so painful to say , how much I miss your lovely performance , your perfect way of showing everyone that , an excellent singer can be on the one hand, so modest and humble , very warm and good hearted , and on the other hand, such a powerful singer with a great influence on many of us.
Your songs are unforgettable and your amazing and special voice , will be in our hearts forever.
I am not exagerating.. you were so special with "Gloria" , in 1981 , when I was 9 years.
I fell in love with you fhe first time I saw you. I really can't explain how a singer , who I've never known before had a strong impact on a young boy and made me and other ones , peaceful and happy . I am totally sure that many people felt like I did..
I can reasure you, that we still listen to your good songs and watching your magnificent eyes , fills our hearts with love and sorrow, with warmth and pain that we miss you so much. Where ever you are and I hope that you watch us and very proud of your big sucess and achievements. Your good & pure personality. , For me you were like a sweet angel 👑🌜🌞🌛⭐🌟🪐💫🌙🌈☀️😇🥰🌝💐💞💕💖💝💓💗💘🍯❤♥️
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
In addition to being hysterically funny, Joan was also a great interviewer ... so good with all different types of people. She and Laura had some great chemistry. And of course to this day Laura had one of the most powerful, beautiful and under-rated voices in all of pop music. I miss them both.
i must have not watched 90s tv..i totally missed this Branigan video how cool Laura was in her persona i miss people like her...so classy and just a good heart she had.
A well spirited very talented woman I LOVE YOU LAURA!
I was 3 years old in the time of this interview ... Laura captures my heart ... God bless her soul ...
I order a CD of Laura Branigan with all her biggest hits for the very first time in Amazon. Can wait to have it and listen to her great music. Regards.
One of my all-time and always favourites forever for me. So authentic, SO talented and humble, I miss her and what her future could have been. I love her hair style too, always so integral in her expression whilst singing. x
Two of my favorite legends together. Miss them both dearly.

Two of my favorite talents of all time. What a dear Joan was when I met her at her book signing, and later saw her live. I regret never seeing Laura in concert, still a huge fan!
Sad she died young..she was incredible
omg the way she sing here is better than the album version!
"just so beautiful"
Love you forever Laura...
Laura had such a powerful voice.Beautiful.
Laura was 42 when she sat for this interview. Her first recording company (Atlantic) took five years off her age to give her a younger appeal.
Usa today had her age at 47 at her death. So did the internet. Always wondefed what that was all about
~They also wouldn’t let her reveal her marriage for those 7 years she mentioned
Wonderful, so precious. Thanks for sharing.:-)
I love you Laura Branigan rest in peace but i feel your still alive everytime i hear your music beautiful woman. I keep buying your albums even now. muah!!

Big lady Laura big VOICE Magnífic performance
Foi a melhor cantora que eu escutei em 1982 até hoje 2019. Hoje ela adormeceu num sono mas a sua obra estar acordada para quem gosta de escutar as lindas músicas que a cantora Laura Branigan interpretava. AMEI o vídeo.

It's Joan Rivers!
Joan: Hello, hello hello... etc And, welcome to "Can we shop"! The show where your dollars make sense and there's always fun and tips and gossip and celebrity excitement. Today we have Grammy nominee and singing sensation, Laura Branigan, and I think that's great.
And, in our "At your service department", the inside low-down on where the Royals shop, and what they buy. Never mind where they shop, it's what they buy (those richies). Plus, of course we have some great deals and some great products. So, Deborah Wilson, tell us what we can shop for today.
Deborah: It will be my pleasure. Listen you guys, get set to get down, dance and enjoy! Because Laura Branigan is back, and we're offering for the first time ever, as a package deal, her new CD "Over My Heart" which has a great duet with Michael Bolton. And, her classic debut CD "Branigan", which includes the mega hit "Gloria".
- "Didn't We Almost Win It All" video clip -
Joan: Okay. Pretty, pretty, pretty. That's a clip of my next guest. She is a Grammy nominated recording artist, who struck gold with the first song she ever released. It became the dance anthem of the disco era, a simple song called "Gloria". Remember that? Today she is here to preform her new single, and also to present a two part timeless music collection. Please welcome, Laura Branigan.
Laura: Hi.
Joan: Nice to see you. How are you?
Laura: It's great to meet you.
Joan: Okay, what have you been doing... in between albums?
Laura: In between albums... well.
Joan: I hear there are about 12 in the middle.
Laura: Yeah.
Joan: I know that.
Laura: I've been touring a lot since the last album.
Joan: And married, when did you get married?
Laura: Uh... Seven years ago.
Joan: And, working out? (knocking on wood)
Laura: Working out? Oh, I'm working out, too, and it's working out.
Joan: Does her tour with you?
Laura: No, he doesn't. Except, sometimes. Only the good places.
Joan: Yeah. Where is home?
Laura: New York.
Joan: New York. So, where, what does he consider a good place?
Laura: Africa.
Joan: Yeah, that's is a good place.
Laura: Yep.
Joan: You're right. Where do you go... how much, part of the year do you spend, going around, touring?
Laura: I'd say, three quarters. Maybe half the year.
Joan: That's a long, long...
Laura: But, I don't go out straight. I go out, and come back. I go out for a month, and come back for a couple weeks. Because, you know, I have a big voice and a big range. And, my show is long. And, it's just me, so I have to come back and rest.
Joan: How do you watch your voice? I know, as a comedian, even if I'm raspy, you know, I can still get the joke out.
Laura: Right.
Joan: As long as I can say, "She's so fat. Fat". It's okay.
Laura: But, you have to support it, right?!
Joan: What about you? What happens? Do you always watch. Do you wake up in the morning and go, "I've got to be careful today, I can't talk".
Laura: Oh, absolutely. I... like, this morning, I knew I was singing this afternoon, so... As soon as I woke up I go, "ahhhhh" You know, I start, I start immediately, (scales), and I also, I have, I had, a beautiful vocal coach, Carlo Menotti, who passed away. He was this old eccentric, Italian man.
Joan: Yeah.
Laura: Fantastic. And, I work out with him 5 days a week.
Joan: So, now you have to find a new coach.
Laura: Yeah, now I do. I haven't found one. I haven't looked.
Joan: Tell me about... now, this is the first (holds up Branigan).
Laura: That's the first.
Joan: This album. And, we have a clip.
Laura: Awwwww
Joan: Are you ready to see yourself?
Laura: Awww no!
Joan: I know. But, take a look. Where can we show her? There we are, it's up there.
- "Gloria" video clip -
Laura: Awwwwwww (hides her face)
I was well fed.
Joan: No, no, not, you don't look that... You were very cute! But, you look svelter now.
Laura: Yeah.
Joan: Well, that's what happens. You get successful, you pull yourself together a little more.
Laura: You lose weight when you see yourself on TV. It's like ahhhhh (braces herself)
Joan: Oh no.
Who was Gloria? Was she anybody?
Laura: Gloria was, well the song was originally an Italian song.
Joan: Right.
Laura: Recorded by Umberto Tozzi, in Italy. It was a big hit. And, my producer at the time, was from Europe, brought me the song. And, we... It was a love song, it was very soft. And, we completely changed it. We wrote the lyrics and gave it an American kick.
I think Gloria wasn't anyone I knew, but it was like, it was representative of what was happening in the 80's when everyone was just wild!
Joan: Yeah. What about now? You get a lot of songs given to you that others want. There's a song that Dolly wanted very much, and you got it? Which was?
Laura: I know. "It's been..." Umm "How can I help you, to say goodbye".
Joan: Yeah.
Laura: Yeah, it's a beautiful song. It's so sad.
Joan: Why do you... you do a lot of sad songs.
Laura: Yep
Joan: Is your life... What do you draw on? Is your life sad, or not?
Laura: Well, it has been. I had a rough time growing up. And, ummm, I think I drew a lot off that. And, I've had a lot of unrequited loves.
Joan: Yeah.
Laura: And, so, I think also that, as far as music goes, the most powerful emotion is pain. You know.
Joan: Yes.
Laura: And, people, everybody loves to have something they can relate to when they go through pain. And, those are the kind of songs I love, so.
Joan: Now tell me about the second album.
Laura: Okay.
Joan: The first album is your original album, which includes, obviously "Gloria". Right?
Laura: Right.
Joan: Now, what did you put on thee second album? We give you these two albums. They come in a package, either the CD or the cassette.
What's going on with the 2nd one, which is called "Over My Heart", which looks... The cover is so beautiful.
Laura: Thank you. The second one is... I really chose songs that I loved. I absolutely loved.
Michael Bolton wrote me a song. We didn't duet on it. He wrote me a song, he wrote me the single.
Joan: Isn't that great? Isn't that cute, "Oh yeah, Michael Bolton wrote me a song"
Laura: He also wrote "How Am I Supposed To Love You" which I had a hit with. So...
Joan: Yeah, so that's where your relationship came from.
Laura: Yeah.
So... I was thrilled. So, this song... this is a good album to slit your wrists by.
Joan: No, it's a good album.
Laura: No, I mean, if you're really sad.
Joan: It's a great album to, if you've been through a big romance.
Laura: Yes.
Joan: You just want to know that others have gone through it, and can identify with it.
Laura: Right. That's it.
Joan: And, everybody's got that big romance somewhere.
Laura: Yeah.
Joan: Aren't you sorry, David Fiderson?
Will you sing us a song for me?
Laura: I will.
Joan: Okay. You have to walk over there.
Laura: Yeah.
Joan: We have a big set for you. Okay?
Ladies and Gentlemen, from her new album, "Over My Heart", please welcome Laura Branigan.
- "It's Been Hard Enough Getting Over You" Live -
Joan: Yeah!!! Alright! Just great! So beautiful! Thank you
Laura: Oh, I love you, I love you. I think you are fantastic!
Joan: Oh, thank you so much! Fabulous! Oh! This is going on mine, tonight!
Laura: Yeah!
Joan: I'm going to be home crying. Deborah, tell the audience how to get this. It's just so beautiful!
Laura. (shakes hands)
Laura: Thank you so much.
Deborah: Laura said it's hard enough without you, but it's enough not to live with music like this. You've got to get it!
So, if you'd like to order the Laura Branigan, 2 CD set, it's item number N145, and priced at just $23.95. And, the 2 cassette set, is item N146 and priced at just $16.95.

Beautiful my princess flower laura forever branigan 👏👏🌺🌹🌼
A bit of an underrated 80s popstar. She had more talent then madonna and her songs had more integrity, but I guess it was nog flashy enough for the masses...
She's more physically beautiful than every female singers in the 80s, including Madonna of course ..
Well, the difference between Laura and Madonna is that Madonna was making music that was related to marketing, also her concerts or MTV VMA were shocking so you know…That’s true Laura has more deep and sensible lyrics in her songs but the problem is that they are not so fast and dynamic and that’s not disadvantage. Well, Laura is kinda the same Iike Cindy Lauper, she was making her own music like Laura, they were making it with their vision or some inspirations. I think also that Laura hot era from 1982 to 1987 (I guess?) existed because she had a good manager, who popularized Self Control, Gloria, I Found Someone, The Lucky One etc. I think also that the similarity between Laura and Cyndi that there only one thing is something which was shocking and intriguing in their discography, in Laura’s career it’s Self Control video music and in Cyndi’s it’s She Bop song. I think also that Laura in her career she could wrote more her own songs, she covered good song but she would release more her own songs back then, she had good talent to that, the example of that is even The Best Was Yet to Come - it was a potential to write good songs in future.
I think Laura was underrated in 90’s and later but let’s include that in 80’s she was huge star. Cyndi also was huge like Laura and later everyone focused on someone other. Anyway even after the 80’s Laura was underrated she still is one of the symbols and icons of this era.
I think that both of them, I mean Laura and Madonna are good. Both of them made something special in 80’s era. Madonna in some interview even said that she knows that she isn’t great or perfect dancer, or that she doesn’t have super voice, she was doing what she wanted in her career, and it worked because it was something new, it was breaking barriers and it synced with marketing. I love both of them❤
Edit: I think that Laura was kinda ahead of her time, she supported LGBT long before now, her music composes, her lyrics. I wish I met her❤
@@88feji
She was passionate ..Very beautiful, ..extremely gifted 🎁
By the Grace of God..
A great range of voice
I miss her..she was a nice person..
She passed in her sleep from an brain Aneurysm at only 52
Interestingly
..I read years before her Aneurysm she fell 10 ft off a ladder ..she was trying to hang a wisteria or vine
She waa quite injured in the fall..could it be she sustained an injury which was asleep sort of as Aneurysms do not always show up right away..it is like a balloon which bursts
A friend's nephew died from 1 at only 20 years old 😢
I suspect this may have occurred at that injury 😢😢
@@steve.cherry Supporting LGBTQ is not a good thing , imo. I thought she was a Christian.
1982 till now 2019 xx
Por siempre , hermosa , un ángel !!!!!!!!
I loved Laura and Self control and l will forever😢😢😢😢
Man, it feels like everyone I have admired is dead or dying. 😶😶😶😶🥺🥺🥺 I ain’t even that old! 🥺
Grande artista, voz inconfundível.
Over My Heart came out in 1993, hard to believe

She thought she was fat in the early eighties, i thought she looked almost perfect.
Joan 😂 Miss You SO much
wow joan is still pretty
I love her I really believe she should come back and do theatre and find her niche again.
TheLeigha72 Laura Brannigan or Joan? Because they're both dead
Crazy to think Laura would pass away 10 years after this in 2004 and Joan 10 years after her in 2014….
Have got to say goodbye again Laura had brain injury forgot you died in 2004 now 2019 saying goodbye again never in a million years I will let you go love miss you baby xx
I Love Music... Gloria..? My mother for Me..😅😅😅 and i love this Song sinec 70s 80s.. for me....Laura Branigan is Queen of Disco music at 80s...i miss you
But your song over dear....i always remember you laura branigan
Very humble singer Laura Branigan.. I have CD with her.
4:18 Wow. They thought she was fat in the Gloria video. If they'd had a time machine, they'd know what fat people really look like. Maybe in 20 years we'll think 300lbs is thin.
She looked smoking in the Gloria video!
She looked hot in it. Joan was a fat shamer.
Funny to see MADTV star Deborah Wilson in the beginning of this clip. I kept expecting her to crack a joke. No wonder she nailed Oprah later on! There wasn't any duet with Bolton on the "Over My Heart" album, however, although he did cowrite the song she performa here.
Laura your the most beautiful female creature GOD every created
This is how I found out that Carlo Menotti passed away.
Ah, sad that she’s dead, and Joan. I don’t think she ever wrote any of her songs, but she could sing.
By 1994, The Joan Rivers Show was already getting decimated in the ratings by Jenny Jones, Montel Williams, and yes, Ricki Lake among the rookie talkers, and Can We Shop? was basically a retooling (this was like the original TalkShopLive).
Of course, the O.J. Simpson trial would finally kill the show dead in 1995.
Michael Bolton and her should have sang the How am I supposed to live without you and the other song together...
She was a very classy women.
what was the duet with bolton that was mentioned? was it a mistake?
Rip
Laura put her career on hold to care for her husband, Larry when he was diagnosed with terminal colon cancer. He sadly passed away in 1996
hahaha...she ashims is self she Watching mega hit Song Gloria. RIP. laura
Wait, I thought she got married in the '70s? She said seven years ago here.
Superior
date of this?
+aperezto This episode was aired on February 24, 1994. I don't know if this show was broadcasted live, in that case it was aired that same day.
+Laura Branigan Forever Thanks I was looking for a last show of her.
She had been married for over fifteen years to that day. Why did she drop eight years of her marriage? She replied: "Uh... Seven years ago." To my guess she was unhappy most of her life. I think her pain made her sing so great. Honestly, I would rather do without her music if only she had been happy.
Sincerely I don't think that. I believe, despite the times of lost and grief she went through during her life, she was always a happy person. You know, I think she was in peace with herself. I think the question about her married years took her by surprise. The lie may be due to the confusion of years that there were in the beginnings of her career. Maybe at that point she did not make the calculation and it just came out "seven years ago" lol!.
emergencyrecorders I really didn't understand that part about the marriage thing either.
Married, seven years ago?' No, the true were fourteen.
Santiago San Miguel She had to keep up the storyline sat by her record company. They shaved five years off of her age to make her appealing to a younger listening audience
Musica de verdad y grandes artistas, no esa basura en habla inglesa y latina de estos tiempo, fuck
Gloria was disco??? No, it wasn't
Laura branigan iswhy she dead?
She died in her sleep due to brain aneurysm at the age of 52.
Por eso no veo esto. Porque NO está en español

aprende inglés duh
I don't get the weight issue from 1982. She was skinny then too.
I'm curious. She said she got married 7 years ago but I thought it was in 78 they got married?
Yes, the truth is that she really got married in December 8, 1978, obviously she knew it very well but she always had a confusion about it because her official age was not her real age but 5 years younger - here she was officially 36 but really she had 41 - then all the important events of her life prior to her official launch in 1982 had to be "readjusted", and so every time they asked her she had to do it quickly and you know, you can easily make mistakes.
Oh uh huh?
Mike Obama took care of Joan Rivers after she outed him.
That's the rumor.
When Mischel runs for president his moto will be.
"I like Mike"
Always shy lol
Joan was so nice at that time. I don't think she aged well.
She made a comment about being married for 7 years in this interview. She married in 1978 that would ~17 years wouldn't it? Of course we all know about the 5 years someone shaved off her age. Strange. Still a big fan.
