Stop comparing modern cats to the gods. Ive studied and transcribed them both and Steve has his unique 'Thing' and Sonny has his 20+ bar phrases. But steve is in no way a sonny rollins clone or wannabe.
@@percyvolnar8010 Who are the modern cats and who are the "gods?" I knew Steve personally. I booked him on a show. He would invariably come in to NYC to play and borrow a horn from one of his devoted acolytes. Their horn would always end up in the pawn shop and they'd be left with the ticket. Not exactly "god-like" behavior. He came from a well-off family in Long Island. He chose his lifestyle and was certainly not driven into it by pain and poverty. People say, "So and so had his demons'" which means nothing. Choose your heroes carefully.
@@orqsilva I dont care if you were Steves wife, okay?? Im saying stop comparing people and start realizing what makes them unique. "Comparison is the devil's tool that he uses to undermine our confidence and destroy our contentment".
I know Steve's ex (I don't think she was his wife). She plays alto, good player. I think she got her horn jacked. Some kind or weird payback karma. Anyway, I am merely saying you don't define your terms. For example, who is "devil?" History is the study of comparisons. Genghis Khan, Hitler, Stalin and Putin, for example. Maybe I'll go watch "The Devil in Miss Jones" so I can catch on my eschatology.
