My wife and I had the opportunity to take breakfast with him in his LA home when we were visiting in 1992. He was gracious, generous, and had an absolutely magnetic presence.

What a great man. As a Ph,D. student of music history, his "Music since 1900", was indispensable, as was "Bakers".

35:25, it's the same technique as for the atonal bit in the middle of Jumbo Go Away.

It's sad to see Zappa in such bad shape at half Slonimsky's age. :(

Zappa was near death...from excruciating prostate cancer...at this point, Zappa wasn't exactly in condition to run the 100-yard dash...it's obvious he's in a hospital bed and suffering

In my opinion, bringing Nicholas Slonimsky out to be celebrated was zappa's best achievement.
That and His lovely children. (who all deserved a better (mother).
