You can see how much respect this guy has for the different foods, cultures, and people he encounters, and that's really important for a show like this.
Smoothskin all I see how Indians respecting others
Truely said.👍
hes not white thats why

You can really tell how much the owners/employees/humanity like this host, they really open up and act so comfortably on camera! Seriously adds so much to the video.
Mr Wolfers He's inquisitive, he wants to know. That's a genuinely good host. He talks less, makes them talk more.
Sheldon's a badass in the kitchen too, he's made it to the top 3 in two different seasons of Top Chef.
Mr Wolfers yeah I work like a block from chef Sheldon's little lunch spot, "tin roof"... killer food and such a good dude. Small kitchen with maybe 5 workers (keep in mind no servers or seating), but you will still see chef in the kitchen when he's on Maui. Everybody loves chef Sheldon
notmyrealname23 wow never knew this guy is truly amazing
Probably cus it's not one of those condescending bespectacled nerdy white guys from Buzzfeed.
I'm a foodie and I've got to say, Indian food changed my life.
Cassandra Helia Haine seriously Indian food change your life.
Try chicken Jalfarezi next time. Trust me it changed my taste buds.
Type 2 diabetics and high cholesterol, probabale coronary artery blocks... For sure life`s changed
@@deepblue3682 try vegan dishes
deep blue I wonder why India has less obesity than America does
I go to a Raja Sweets in Jackson heights, New York. Jalebi is my fave!
im indian and i also only love jalebi others are bad for me.
Cheryl Boone
It's our national sweet.
eat jalabi with warm milk or cold yogurt
Raja sweets in jacksonheights does not even come close to authenticity
Best Indian sweets overall are located in devon in Chicago like “tahoora, and ajwa “ however if you’re in the New York area and u want something that’s sort of close to authentic Indian sweets I would recommend maharaja sweets on 37th Avenue in jacksonheights, they’re the closest u can get in New York other than that come to Chicago

This host is great! He makes everyone feel comfortable, this video stood out among others as very interesting and happy, i think the daughter really had awesome passion about her restaurant and pride in her parents
Thats soo true
How very accommodating and welcoming were the ladies in the show....this shows the actual cultural aspect of our country. Good job.
what Raja sweets?! I go here all the time! Never thought I'd see it on here. But their sweets are amazing!
I love how south asian muslims and hindus can eat at the same place and celebrate different holidays with similar foods as well. Despite both having food restrictions ...
Ramazan mubarak
In advance if ur from India ;)
Happy Eid !! If you like Indian food I share some quick food recipes on my channel . Not a pro !! Just started Hope you find something good :)
Shah Esfelazi Actually except one or two restrictions on religious basis, rest 99% of the cuisine is same for all south asians. Afterall pakistan and bangladesh were born out of India.
RoyalBob 90% of cuisine and culture isn't the same for all south asians. do you know how much land the term "south asia" actually covers? and you think all the culture and cuisine is the same lmao
but its still similar, dress and food style from the himalayas to sri langka ... there is still something connecting all of you. Even a marriage has similar traditions, compare that to Malaysia - it is so different between races within the country. Even in South East Asis compare that the Thais and the Malays very different even though we are close to each other, we cannot share each other foods (Muslims cannot touch pork), language and culture is totally different.
These are the types of folks we need.
What a great story and video. The daughter appears to be the perfect mix of father and mother: father's personality and mother's beauty. I wish you all 30 more years of success.
Indian sweets are much better than any other cuisine's. You just gotta love 'em
I disagree. If were sharing opinions here I think it's overkill on sugar. Sweets should be about the flavor and sweet balance but indian sweets just explode in sugar and over power everything. Maybe I didn't have the right ones but all the ones I've tried were like that. I prefer chocolates.
MusingsofaJay♡ You tried the right ones.Way too sweet .Doesn't make em any less tasty for us but they push us a tad closer to a doctor.
MusingsofaJay♡ Im an Indian and I dont like north Indian sweets.. everything tastes like sugar syrup.. the south Indian sweets have tge right amount of sugar and flavours
That's not biased at all
nah im Indian and I like cake man
Most diverse city in America. Glad y'all picked up Houston. Definitely have the most variety of foods than anywhere in the US.
More diverse than LA and NYC? Ok...
As of 2010, Houston is the most diverse city in the US, only a little higher than NYC
Even the LA Times wrote a piece saying Houston was the most diverse city in the US this year.
Kay Flip www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/Fort-Bend-County-is-nation-s-most-ethnically-4403675.php
Appeal to authority much? Houston is a diverse city but compared to New York City which has the highest foreign born population in the world, Houston is definitely not the most diverse city, especially in terms of sheer number. Houston is still mainly Latino, particularly Mexican, with 44% identifying as such. Whereas in New York City there is no ethnic group exceeding above 30% in demographics. In Queens, it's even more diverse in demographics.
Love love LOVE everything about this: inclusiveness, entrepreneurship, dedication, accomplishing goals and good eats!!
I'm really happy that the UAE has ties with Indian culture
Paul Phillips It seems that u need some discipline.
Paul Phillips Some maybe unhygenic but the shop next to my home is one of cleanest Indian sweet shop i have ever seen and i haven't said about street shops im saying about big franchises.
+Paul Phillips
yes you are right, i visited India 4 years ago & Egypt 2 years ago. i saw with my own eyes.
many of small restaurants are unhygienic.
k don't care if you call Egypt unhygienic but saying all arabs is generalizing a much
+face punch
hello, are you from UAE? im planning to visit UAE next year, i wanna see whether UAE Arabs are hygienic people or not.
Nothing better than Gulab Jamun
Rasmalai is better.
My fave to
True.
Yessss!
*Rosogolla People want's to know your location*
THIS GUY IS TBH THE NICEST PRESENTER I HAVE EVER SEEN
Ok Eater. This is 3 for 3 with this series. Whoever you hired to make this show....more. It's a noticeable difference.
We have our own in house video crew that works on all of our shows. Thanks for watching!
Eater may i send my resume? im inspired by this show and would love to help.
I don't know what's better the host or the food! 10/10
Belief in self, hard work, persistence + No excuse making = American Dream achieved.
Nokomisclub a lot of people don't wanna put the work for it , they just want handouts
And what if you do all these and you're still not successful?
And a strong family community that helps you when you're down. See things that are under the surface
@@Bloombaby99 i want to meet such a person, the secret is not making excuses , i am sure you are a person who makes excuses.
To put even more diverse perspective, from a Houstonian, like no more than 5-10 min away from this Mahatma Gandhi district is the equally legendary Chinese district which in turn that's connected to the Vietnamese district that they were in for the Crawfish-Vietnamese fusion episode but also you were few blocks away from this legendary overlooked Iranian restaurant that's been around just as long as Raja Sweets that I feel like should get as much credit as everything else.
Houston seems like a nice city.
So you have worreity of food item near your city
2:12 When I was in kindergarten one of my classmate's mothers brought in this desert and for years I've been trying to figure out what it was. That bright orange color has always been on my mind. I remember thinking it was good, it is a fond memory.
Kaju katli is the best sweet out there imo.
Right! They should have fed him that. . . .
ahah spoken like a true indian !
And whn that becomes your nickname ;_;
Kajori Mondal woah..that is soo wrong 😯 .. i would hav nicknamed you dal kachori 😄
Yeah. i get called by that name too!! Kaju, Kaju badam, Kaju barfi, kaju katli, kachori, khichdi, and lots more! -_-
love how the host calls the cooks uncle like any good mannered desi young adult would do
Oh man, I can't have too much Indian sweets, too sweet
There's a local store in Toronto with lots of sweets. Really freaking amazing too
even we can't have too much of those sweets, unless you're like a bengali or something, we have on special occasions not everyday so
@@ri-xj1vs maybe premimum sweets. They have an assortment however it’s a franchise now
This guy is Eaters best host imo, right next to lucas and nick.
How bout' Matt from K-Town, he's pretty good too ^^
EtoTheOwl This Dude > K Town Dude > Lucas > Nick
EtoTheOwl Last time I checked everyone was hating on him... now people love him. Glad people have come to their senses.
He's a chef. Was even on Top Chef
I like this host. Respectful and attentive. Not all about Him..
I am so happy for you and your family. May peace be with you always and that is so amazing the legacy your parents brought here. The food looks very yummy
Bless them. So much passion.
Chef Simeon is hands down the best host on Eater.

Chef Sheldon! Gotta be the most genuine person in the industry. Love the show, thanks Eater for giving chef some of the attention he deserves.
Wow. Bless u and ur family. I really enjoyed this ep., ur energy and humble beginnings.
I love LOVE the quick overview of the history. I wanted to hear so much more 🥰Thank you so much for sharing!
That temple looks so aesthetically gorgeous. It's stunning.
Holy crap Houston is diverse
Yo Sheldon, great job! 🤙🏼 You & Lucas are the best things on Eater. Keep up the great work!
Literally everything looks delicious!!!
Subscribed and clicked the Notif bell just 'coz of Sheldon Simeon!!! 😍 I love the way he handled the whole segment...he's a natural host who shows great passion for food, culture, & history behind the people & the flavors they offer. 😊👍🏼 Now, I'm off to watch all of Sheldon's vids. 😂 More power to you Sheldon!!! Love heaps from Sydney!!!! 😘❤️
There are countless Indian families in the US with the exact same story except the business's are different. Being from an Indian business family as well with an almost exact story I'm here to tell you poverty and oppression are a state of mind and culture. Nothing can stop hard work, dedication, and carrying yourself with respect. This video should inspire some to stop blaming others and history for their problems and get off their butts and just work for what they want in life.
None of what you said has anything to do with the video.
@match box what do you mean by 'whitewashing the past'?
I live in H-Town, got to find this place and try out some of the food
I live very close to hill croft hope you guys come again since there's a lot of other really cool stuff here
All those candies and sweets look amazing! I'm salivating!
I'd kill for some burfi
when you eat indian sweets, you go high 😂
After daaru
sheldon's got such a great attitude and friendly demeanor!
I like that there’s a local Filipino guy doing one of these shows now. Having grown up in Honolulu his very slight accent reminds me of home.
Rosagolla and Chenna Poda are the king of Indian Sweets. ❤❤❤
Amazing story and amazing series overall!
I respect this family.
Jalebi is my favourite Indian sweet ❤❤❤❤❤. Great childhood memories
I left Cleveland because of the snow too!
This host is superb!
I gotta say really proud as an indian for the representation and love jalebi, ladoos but a shoutout to the person/people who edited this , A+ work for an A+ place.
Hard work pays. Thank you for sharing.
I live in Houston and I love hilcroft! I practically grew up there!
Such a great video to watch as an American born to Indian parents who visits Houston at times (relatives live here and I’m pretty sure they’ve taken me here before!). Tbh I don’t like Jalebi personally but Gulab Jamun, Ladoo, and Rasmalai are my weaknesses
oh this brings back so many memories me and my family used to go there alot but then we moved to Katy we still go but on special occasions
Awesome!!!
truely awesome, india has a truely unique take on desserts.
My brother's wife is Indian and her family's hospitality and warmth is insane. The food is always the best and you're rammed full of food and alcohol until you burst. Hence, my sister always drives me to family events on that side :)
When my parents travel through Houston, we go to Raja Sweets.. yummy
man how you gonna fail creating an Indian restaurant in London? UK is little India man. We eat that shit up
+Dr Mantis Toboggan You need to listen more closely. They lost their money opening their first restaurant in Cleveland, Ohio prior to moving to Houston.
Dr Mantis Toboggan they knew brexit was coming
😂😂😂
sheldon u da man! can really tell by your body language and the questions you ask that youre actually interested in these peoples stories, and that of course you care about the faces in the back a da house too!
What an awesome place and story!
All of this food looks so good. I want to go there so badly. Indian food is my favorite cuisine :)
🤯🤤 Absolutely amazing and wonderful 🥰 I want to go there n taste all of it ☺️
I love jalebi and rasmalai. I love any mitai to be honest.😂😂
The best part is that they don’t use any mold to make them look better . They do it all by hand
The sweets are so colorful and enticing 😄 I want some
Big Up Raja Sweets For doing it big and proper!!! Imma go there for sure when I'm in Houston!! Big up also to this Guy from Eater yo Sick location!!!
vlogs like these are so full of positivity..who even needs documentaries on wars/crimes??

Where do you live ?
wwaw everything looks soooo good. and now I m hungry 😓😓😓
I feel like Indian sweets are a really underappreciated aspect of Indian cuisuine. It was such a huge surprise for me discovering all of the amazing sweet stuff when I was travelling in India but never really see it back home despite there being a lot of good Indian restaurants in my area. Let's hope some good spots pop up soon 👍
It's crazy to see this restaurant on such a popular channel. I've been going to Raja on a monthly basis ever since I was a kid. Never realized it was this famous 😅
Just when I thought India was all about chili and spices.. and here I am witnessing something "sweet." Love it..
where's the gulab jamun!!
n. guy09 they have bleached it and now it has become rasgulla.
Loved it..!
You are a lucky man..,!
