IT'S Award Winner March 2024: Melissa Brown

The winner of the Innovative Teachers Inspiring Students (IT'S) Award for March 2024 is Melissa Brown, KISD Speech-Language Pathologist and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Facilitator. She was nominated by KISD Executive Director of Special Education Lynn Jameson for her work in creating Core Communication Boards for the District's campus playgrounds. A Core Board is a communication system that uses a set of frequently used words, with accompanying pictures, that can be used independently or in combination with each other to create phrases to assist nonverbal students to communicate with others more easily on the playground.
