Gordan MacLellan was my cousin. My Grand Father was depressed for quite a while after this, I know he had a lot of love for the ship and it's crew. It seems like a long time ago to most. To me, it's like yesterday. It was the only time I ever saw Grandpa cry.

For this song, and the rest of the Heavy Weather album, all the musicians backing him are... him. Brian played every instrument when he recorded it. At one point, he told me he lost 15lbs recording the drum tracks. 😂
I grew up listening to the story around the campfire every year and just this year I Got to touch one of the life vests from the Fitz, sent chills down my spine.
As a child of the sixties, Gordon Lightfoot will always own this song. It's hard to hear anyone else singing it. That said, I must say that Brian Burns does a fabulous cover. The audio is excellent and I do like the deeper tones of the music. Adding the names of the crew is genius.

I haven't seen him in a long while, but I think my In-laws still run into him, so I will definitely have them pass it along for you!

@@davidalexander828 Thats exactly it....its just performed in an entirely different way, with the original track being like some somber church hymn or something, while this one is a bit more upbeat.....that said, id give Gordon's version a little advantage over this one,if for no other reason than it being the original, as well as the time it came out, with the cultural significance regarding the subject of the song

This is still my favorite version of this song. Brian Burns is one of my favorite artists besides Johnny Horton when it comes to historical songs.

On my video someone posted a comment that his wife a relative of a crew member.
A cousin Bliane Wilhelm was an oiler on the ship. This is a great cover and the naming of the crew members really adds to it.
