Thank you very much Bob for your interesting tour. My husband and I are just beginning to think about motorhomes having done quite a lot of caravanning and your tour has given us a lot of information about the Bolero. We hope you are still enjoying it.
We sold the Bolero in December 2019, we now have a Swift Kon-Tiki Sport 574, very similar but with twin sofas. ua-cam.com/video/0YQIeQuLZrA/v-deo.html
A brilliant motorhome - looks like a private jet in the back - love it.
Thanks!
Yes... I think yours is a perfect configuration
I enjoyed watching that you two. I love motorhome design, it’s so clever! No space is ever wasted. I live that layout which is like three separate rooms in one! It’s in beautiful condition too and it’s obvious that you guys take good care of it! Thanks for putting that video together. Keep up the good work! We’re all watching!
Lovely van hope you have loads of good holidays in it.
Beautiful motorhome thank you for sharing
Thaks bob thats brilliant advice i didnt realise vehicle battery got charged aswell as the leisure battery so great advice thank you xxx
Hi Bob, With the help of your video and a trip to Brownhills, we have now ordered a Swift Bessacarr 574 . Thanks for the tour round your van, all useful to help make up are minds for our next investment. Please note, you can now get a red Aldi antifreeze for your heating which will last for five years, as an alternative to the blue which only lasts for two years ?
Colin Humphries fantastic news! Hope you have a wonderful time in her. Glad I could help in some way. I'll ask for the red Alde stuff thanks!
This looks an excellent van, thanks for sharing :)
Good honest factual report, enjoyed muchly!
Hi
Found your videos in last week or so. Thoroughly enjoying them, loads to view still!!!!
Really impressed with the quality.
Enjoy your thoughts (and your wife's) along with Poppy's input
You should be extremely proud of your efforts.
We are giving MHhoming a first go this Summer, hiring a MH to do the NC 500 in Scotland.
Videos are a great help to us enabling us to pick up your tips from your many years of experience.
Quick question, do you leave table up when driving?
Thanks very much for your kind cimments Absolutely never, ever, leave the table up when driving. I hate to think what could happen in an accident, as it's only attached to the wall with a couple of clips. It could be lethal! Continental motorhomes tend to have tables bolted to the floor.
Hi ... what a great insight, thanks. We have been looking at different models for nearly a year now LOL
mixthemix thanks. Think you have to start from how are you going to use it, will it be mainly short stays or longer trips. I think you start with sleeping arrangements, if you don't mind making up beds or climbing ladders...
Well we know we want a fixed rear bed, can't seem to make up our minds regarding a central island, french or sideways option :-) So confusing with all the different models. We keep getting told to take our time, this we are doing but then new models appear & we start all over again haha
PS: By the way great vlogs, we are regular watchers :-)
mixthemix perhaps the only way to choose would be to hire a layout you think you want. Only thing about island beds is they always seem too short for me, just under 6ft.
Hi Bob, Good news about towing , I have just confirmed with the Technical department of the Caravan and Motorhome Club with regard to when the C1 ends on your driving licence at 70. The 3,500 kg just applies to the limit on the vehicle , the maximum weight on towing is the maximum towing of the vehicle, in the case of Swift Bessacarr Motorhomes that is 2,000kh. Therefore any tow car can be used up to this weight. This is because if you past your driving test before 1997, you still have what the DVLA say is Grandfather rights,
B1+E.
B1
Yes, that's what I understood from the reply to a letter in this month's MMM.
You have beautiful motorhome, thanks for the tour.
Very informative real life review of the Bolero MH..would have liked to see how the front seating converts into a bed as we cant decide on whether to aim at the 722FB or the 724FB..
We've never used the fromt bed, only ever had two of us sleeping in the motorhome. I have assembled the front bed and it is a pain with infill cushions and a complicated layout. Perhaps I should film it one day!
Hi bob can you get your cab radio connected to your 12v leisure battery so you can listen to it on site
I listen to it using the vehicle battery. It switches off after 3 hours to save the battery. I had my previous motorhome's radio wired to the leisure battery, but there's really no need especially if you are on electric hook up as the vehicle battery is also charged by the built in battery charger.
You are correct Bob it does mean 5 series, older ones are 4 series when you talk about models
We did do an early video that involved shopping. Have a look at "Cragside National Trust and wrong fuel disaster" video around 6:30 mins.
Nice motorhome following you from spain
Lovely
Hi bob, just wanted to know how do you get on with your shopping with a big van and do you leave poppy in the van when you go out ?
alan young I was thinking of doing a video about that. But quick answer - not a problem in bigger supermarkets. Poppy stays in the van in her crate and is perfectly safe whilst we shop.
Hi Bob loved the video just one question why do you need to change the brake fluid .Nick
Brake fluid is hygroscopic - it absorbs water and over time, it loses it efficiency and could in some circumstances boil away under heavy braking. About 5 years is a good time to get the water content using a brake fluid tester.
Thanks for that Bob, the payload would only be 314 kg, but you can also tow a trailer/tow car up to 780 kg, therefore the loadings would suit my needs for a driving licence without the need for C1 when I reach the age of 70. PS Your payload seems high ? a Swift KONTIKI twin axle can go up to 975 kg, I think I would check your specification to make sure of 900 kg payload ?
Not sure you will find many cars you can tow around 780kg. The Smart car is 890kg to 1100kg. The payload on my older Bolero is high - 951kg. It's because it was built on the 4250kg chassis, unlike the newer ones. Like you I'll need a rethink when I get to 70. There's an interesting letter in this months' MMM. I didn't realise, but if you passed your test before 1 Jan 97, then on reaching 70 when you lose the C1 entitlement, you still keep B+E. That means you can use a 3500kg GVW motorhome to tow a trailer up to the limit of the motorhome's train weight.
Hi Bob, I have a Swift KONTIKI 625, I am now looking at changing for a new Swift Bessacarr 574 with a similar layout to your Bolero. I was wondering if you have found any disadvantages to your layout ? I am also thinking of the lounge layout which would keep it to 3.500kg, hence you would not need the C1 on your driving licence.
Colin Humphries We do like the layout, but think the two drawbacks are smallish kitchen work surface and lounge seating area is a bit restricted for more than two people.
Colin Humphries the 574 is the direct replacement model to ours. Beds are a bit longer but we don't like TV position.
Colin Humphries Also if you are going for the 3500kg model, check the payload is sufficient. We have over 900kg of payload on a 4250kg chassis.
Have you got the hidden dust pan and brush behind the door bin ?
castleman7300fx no hidden dustpan. It's in the cleaning cupboard!
Bob Earnshaw Have you looked ?
castleman7300fx lol I'll look tomorrow.
Hi Bob can you tell me which clutch claw you have and where to get it ?
It's this one - the standard one for the fiat ducato 2014 onwards amzn.to/2o3CYdH
Thanks again Bob :-)
Hi bob can I ask do you have refillable gas bottles on your van ?
No, just the standard 7kg Calor Gas Bottles. May go for refillable on the next 'van.
Next van ? You looking to change your van ?
Couple of years yet...
