Greatly appreciated! To be fair, I was still too stunned to talk during the beginning, and then once I heard Penny's leitmotif I had to hear the rest lol
@@GraveDigger35 Yeah tends to be why most reactors don't listen to the end credits super closely, they want to save their impressions for the full soundtrack. I just don't have that patience lol
I love how they did the ending song its only sad musically till her wish comes true then even through all the rest she went through she has always been happy its just captures her personality so well. These little things have always been one of the things that elevate the music for this series above just background noise for a show.
"Friend" is immediately my new favorite RWBY song. So upbeat and optimistic, but with context it's absolutely heartbreaking. The "wish upon a star" reference is a nice touch too.
Also, a few things: 1. Winter is gonna have to tell her mother that Weiss is "dead..." that's going to be... something. 2. Winter said the same thing to Cinder that Jaune did in volume 5. 3. "...and in a single day and night of misfortune, the Island of Atlantis disappeared into the depths of the sea." - _Plato, 360 B.C._ 3.5. The Greek word _Ἀτλαντὶς,_ anglicized to _Atlantis,_ can be translated to "City of Atlas" 4. Neo+Jaune+RWBY beach episode! 5. Jaune is going to have to tell Ruby that he killed Penny. And the whole "it was what she wanted" thing won't buy him any points because she said the same thing to Ruby and she refused and found another way. Lowkey want to see Ruby go to attack Jaune and him just not even resist it.
Sooooo much to unpack with this episode/season! I can definitely see Ruby snapping and taking it out on Jaune, they're both going to need a lot of time to heal from this
@@GraveDigger35 I think the key difference is Pyrrha killing Penny wasn't on purpose, she was manipulated, while Jaune knowingly and purposefully killed her. Even though Penny requested it and it was the correct course of action in that moment, hearing your friend tell you they intentionally killed your other friend is going to hurt. Weiss being there to back him up will definitely help though
I guess getting mercy killed by Jaune is better than getting lynched (Pinocchio got lynched either for i think a crime he got framed for or a lie that pissed people off)
The progression between your ch12, 13, and 14 reaction thumbnails is both hilarious and also just a Mood😔 But yeah, damn this episode got darker than the void everyone fell into
Vine being the dark horse MVP. Didn’t think he of all characters would be the Ace Op (aside from Marrow) that best embodies what it means to a Huntsmen. Also. Last episode and this episode they teased Ruby charging up her silver eyes when near Cinder. So I feel like they’re building up to Ruby de-Grimmafing her.... eventually anyway.
Agreed, was not expecting him to be the one to make the sacrifice play. And I actually hadn't considered that! Will definitely be interesting to see where Cinder's story goes now that she's fully back in Salem's good graces and has stepped up her game immensely
I think leaving it as "This was a gift" fits the moment better as a response to what Ironwood said, and keeping the line short fits the pace of the scene better, but that would've been really sweet!
Take everything I say with a grain of salt. Because I am of the mind that we can’t truly judge this decision until we see how all the characters close to Penny are reacting and moving forward. If Penny was suddenly forgotten after the initial grieving scenes, then I wouldn’t like it. But they did continue to remember us of Pyrrha and her connection to the characters so I am not worried. I think this works really well outside of the initial scene. Because since she was introduced Penny was under the control of someone else. That was obvious in her first “death”: She didn’t die to save someone, she was used as a tool by Cinder to create negative emotions and distrust. And since she was reintroduced other people still had this same control over her: Ironwood burdened her with keeping Mantle safe (he even said in front of her to Jacques and the council he had her under control) and the Maiden powers also came with responsibilities she didn’t ask for. She wants to protect people but suddenly she gets send away by her friends and her dad because she is the key to unlock the vault. All of this culminated in Watts hacking her. The struggle she had since she was first seen was finally visualized. Penny getting a new body that couldn’t be used by others and her deciding to protect her friends instead of going through the portal was the first choice she made without anyone else having some form of control over her. So when she is mortally wounded and knows that healing her would take too long (we know that too, because it took a long time for Jaune to heal Weiss in Volume 5), she makes the ultimate sacrifice to make sure the powers go to someone she trusts. And this happening after she witnessed her best friend die (because she doesn’t know that falling in the void means anything else than death) makes it much more understandable. Don’t get me wrong, this was deeply upsetting and I also wanted something else for her. But thinking about what her story line was and how this fits with that makes it a little more bearable. Also there are some theories out there that could mean that Penny will still be part of the show in some form. It has to do with how she got her human body. Ambrosius was clear about how he didn’t know what exactly Penny would be. I personally think it is possible that Penny’s soul was altered in a similar way that Ozma’s was. Her soul could be able to exist besides Winter’s in her body. That would also open an opportunity to explore soul binding and/or merging. But I don’t really need Penny to come back like that for this end to her story line to work. As I said, as long as she isn’t forgotten by the show and its characters, I am fine (and deeply saddened) by it.
Yeah now that I've had some time to sit and think I'm significantly more on board with the writing choice, especially from a narrative standpoint. My initial reaction of "I don't like this" was purely from the perspective of "they killed my favorite character and I'm upset" lol
i absolutely love the twist on the Pinnochio story that they did for Penny, which was only revealed in her song. Pinnochio spent every night looking for a shooting star so that he could wish to become a real boy. Penny did the same so that she could wish for... a Friend. Makes the song so much more devastating.
Don’t forget that Neo fell with Ruby. She might do an Emerald and join our protagonists! Also, I sincerely hope the remaining Ace Ops and the birds pick up Pietro and Maria before they go to Vacuo. Speaking of the birds, QROW HAD BETTER BE LIVING WHEN THE KIDS MAKE IT TO VACUO OR I’M GOING TO SUE RT FOR EMOTIONAL DISTRESS
This is legitimately the only scenario in which I see Neo becoming a good guy (or at the very least not trying to kill the good guys). And don't worry, Qrow has been waving death flags since V4 and still refuses to die, at this point I'm convinced he is immune to the fear of death lol
Love that we still technically have a single word title because the final word of this volume was simply Checkmate. Cinder giving Watts a roast for a roast fair trade. So sad for Penny but Jaune is gana have some shit to deal with next chapter and we thought him loosing Pyrah was bad also begs the question how is Ruby gana take the news of how it all went down with her optimisim breaking more recently will she still be as unblaiming as she was with spaced for sploilers for others who read before watching Pennys first death.
The fact that the writers put so much effort and attention into everything down to the titles is why this season is so great, you can tell CRWBY poured their love into every piece of it!
And yeah, Ruby has been inching closer and closer to her breaking point and I think this will be what finally puts her over the edge. Using the staff was her idea, and even though they accomplished their top priority (save as many people from Atlas and Mantle) as possible, I can absolutely see her blaming herself for Penny's death.
@@RedTheRoyal I just worry she is going to blame and lash out at Jaune first when we know hes going to be taking this hard too and honestly I feel like it might be better story wise for her to do just that and later have that realization.
@@johnoden5932 Oh yeah I can definitely see her lashing out as well, especially because she wasn't there to see the situation. Ultimately I think she'll be able to grow a lot from this regardless
