Great video. I have sweet potatoes rooting in water because my cousin grows them like a house plant. They are so beautiful. I will let her know she can eat them. Just wanted to say while I was recuperating after surgery to remove cancer all I could eat was sweet potatoes. They had them washed and wrapped in plastic in the market and you could microwave them. I could barely stand up and I couldn’t keep anything else in my stomach for a few weeks. They got me through and my doctor said they had all the nutrients I needed. I just moved to 9a/9b and I am going to plant some now that it’s not as hot. Thanks so much for sharing.
Just discovered you from a reddit post and I wish I was taking lessons in person from you. You have a great cadence and make things so understandable, definitely encouraging me to learn more and do more.
totally agree - he makes things understandable, and they make such much sense as to why. Never knew we can eat the leaves, but I will be eating them. Appreciate the nutrition information at the end too.
I’m 10 months late but the bonus shot is watching you enjoy the fruits of your labor young man. Learned so much from this one video. You and you family stay blessed!!!!!
I harvested some of my sweet potatoes today and took the leaves and had them for dinner. You’re right they taste like spinach. They are so easy to grow and they will be my go to. I will now use them in my smoothies as well.
Just discovered you. What a beautiful garden. Mine is way smaller and it would break my heart to have to tear it up before harvest and move. I am 76 and just increase my harvest each year. I do try to keep it simple. But I let it get out of control this year. Greenbeans everywhere. But that is God's bounty. I am able to share.
I found your channel some months ago got interrupted and couldn't find you afterwards. I finally found you again. This was the video I was watching. I'm finishing it finally. Thank you. I'm growing sweet potatoes again this year. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. Your videos are also calming in today's hectic, crazy world. 💖🌟
Nice! I have no idea how long my sweet PETatoes have been in the ground but I know they are actually growing unlike the russets that were once again a total flip. Thank you for sharing this. And thank you for mentioning wearing gloves!
I planted sweet potatoes for the first time this year. I knew nothing about the 70 to 80 days. I also didn’t know you had to trim them. In any case I hope I have something because I planted my potatoes the end of May. I went to Alaska for 3 weeks in August and they were out in my yard and up my fence. I still haven’t harvested them yet. I will go out tomorrow to see what I have. I don’t care for the leaves, but I have friends who eat them. Anyway thanks for the tip. Also, I do compose so maybe I have something under the ground. It sure does look like you are doing a lot more than composting. You must live in a warmer climate. I have never seen anything like what you have in Pennsylvania not even among the Amish who are great farmers.
Great harvest! Love what you're doing! I put up a bunch of sweet "patatuh" 😆 leaves this week in the freezer. They're great additions to winter soups. Mine will be at 100 days next weekend. Definitely my favorite easy crop to grow. Keep it up!
@@SunsetGazing I just wash them, pat dry and freeze in freezer bags (squeezing out as much air as possible so bags are flat.) I mostly add them to winter soups so the flavor is fine for me.
thank you ! your the 1st person who told people the leafs are food! as a kid we ate them with many things! along with grape an ferns (fiddlerheads) thing people have no idea about! as my fathers mother was native we all ways had somthing from the yard.
I just looked up the benefits of sweet potatoe and they are excellent for the body. Wow, learned something new. Thank you for always sharing productive and very informative content.
I just found your channel. I am in Houston, TX. I really like your channel. I will have to plant some sweet potatoes next year. I will look in to the compost procedure also. Your channel is interesting. Keep up the great job.
We didn’t plant sweet potatoes this year, and I’ll miss them! I didn’t know you could eat the green leaves! Tastes like spinach with we love! Will definitely plant them in next year!!
My new favourite channel, learned so much and was thoroughly entertained. side note the amount of times this man said "sweet potatoes" had me creasing the whole video
Good afternoon from England. Where I live is a cooler climate than yours I think but I have grown a sweet potato plant for the first time this year. I saw a plant in a local garden centre in May and thought I would give it a try. My one plant was grown in a 30 litre container filled with a mixture of sieved garden soil and my own home made compost with some added organic fertiliser. I can’t remember how long it has been growing but the leaves had started to die off so I harvested the plant this week and as a first timer I am pleased with the results. The tubers are not quite as big as yours and I will certainly try again next growing season. Thanks for the tip about the vines rooting where they touch the soil, I will look out for that in future. Finally, I am pleased you called soil, “soil” and not dirt as so many Americans do as I think it is a derogatory word to describe our most basic resource. Excellent channel!
Grew up on farm growing sweet potatoes and almost all produces! Seeing your channel makes me miss farmlife!( Live in city) You a good teacher! Thanks for sharing! Happy Farming💯👍👏❣️
Killing it as usual brotha, I've never let my sweet potatoes grow long enough to flower, which I think has been a big mistake on my part, I've gotta try this again soon!
I have my sweet potatoes growing along the outside of my greenhouse... didn't know I was supposed to keep the vines up... maybe I have Monster potatoes waiting lol. Planted 120+ days ago
Man you are so right I worked a summer program this summer and I learned so much. The sweet potato leaves are just simply delicious my great grandaugther loved them. And also your advice about purning them is very necessary I truly enjoyed watching your videos.
I'm growing sweet potatoes for the first time this year and I just took the first peek at the roots yesterday. Was very happy to see at least two potatoes in there about a hand and a half long and as big around as my fist. Didn't dig around too much because I don't want to disturb them, but now I'm excited. Just waiting a couple more weeks to harvest so they can get as big as possible before curing for thanksgiving.
I’m in Canada growing zone 3. I planted 5 slits by the house, one really survived and did well. Thanks for your tip to have an edible houseplant. I will do that! (I had to wait a long time for my slits to grow off the planted 5 planted sweet potato’s. I almost gave up too.) Sweet potato like it warm! When it’s too warm for spinach... sweet potatoes love it. Currently we are having a warm fall. 29 C or 84 F. I’ll harvest it when the full moon gets close- cooler nights.
You have some beautiful sweet potatoes there.. I've got two more weeks to go. Then I'll be harvesting each row, a week at a time for three weeks. Yes, I'll be in sweet potato heaven
🇨🇦Those potatoes are massive @ 4:10 !! I grew potatoes for the first time ever and if mine will be even half that size I’ll be thrilled 😊 back to the video
What a GREAT WAY to start my day 🌄 Really appreciate your heart, enthusiasm and practical tips! We just ate our FIRST sweet potato leaves for dinner last night 😋
Please please dont give in to those buyers. If they dont want the garden tell them to Keep it Moving. You are in charge. You have the upper hand. I had to learn this. Dont let them bully you...🥰
Nice harvest! Right on time! I'm about to go check on mine, got a couple different kinds going, not sure how well they did but we'll see. Growing in a pallet raised bed with hugelkultur and compost fill, should be good!

My babby girl loves watermelon. I have always been leary of adding scraps to my garden. I will be trying that too. Thank you for sharing your tips and tricks.
Great video! Good job on the sweet potato harvest. We had too much heat and drought conditions so I doubt my harvest this year will be anywhere as good as last year's. We'll see!
Ready to harvest my Sweet Patatuh thanks for the Tips The leaves are growin up my fence in the ground too😮 I can’t wait to see how many and how big. Liked how u just added the compost to the dirt have to try that 👍🏽
When you bring the slips indoors and grow as a houseplant, could you then plant them in soil in the spring to grow more potatoes? Please let me know. 9:12 pm Boston.
I'm just getting back into gardening again these past few years, and my hypefixation in the garden this year is sunchokes and sweet potatoes. Got some pretty big pumpkin vines blossoming right now too, exited to see how they do.
