PART 5 - Solo Sailing 23ft Trailer Sailer Sunshine Coast to The Whitsundays

- Part 5 of my trip has me heading from Island Head Creek up to Shaw Island, QLD. This leg of the trip was my favourite up to this point with the calmer seas and shorter day hops with no rush. Spectacular scenery right the way up the cost with more and more islands coming into view the further North I went. My autopilot finally broke for good, and with the way Summer Wine is set up, I need to go to the mast to raise the mainsail. This meant that it was headsail only as I deemed it too risky to go up to the mast without positive control of the boat. Nonetheless it didn't effect me greatly. What a great leg of the trip!
Thanks to everyone for the support from the past few videos. I'm glad people are enjoying the journey. Im expecting there to be 1 or 2 more videos to come.
Summer Wine is an Ultimate 23 Trailer Sailer.

7m trailer yachts are such a sweet spot with sailboats 👍🏻
great video mate, really enjoying seeing this part of Aus!
Nice vids mate, I have a 25ft TS in Moreton Bay and really keen to head north abit. You should do a boat tour, how you store things, cook, ect. yew
@@lewisobrien503 Unreal, do you keep up it in the water or on a trailer? What make/model? I like your idea. When I get a chance I’ll try and put a boat tour together
@@jamesgow8018 Keep it dry at RQYS, bit expensive but at least I know its safe. Timpenny 770 made in 1985 I think.
Good stuff mate, thanks for sharing.
We motored into Hill inlet in our 24' TS, was a great spot to spend a couple of days exploring.Awsome view from top of the hill!
It is a great spot, I ended up spending a night in there and it was magical. The best nights sleep I had in 2 months!
Good one mate your out there doing it.
You should invest in a self steering wind vane. No electricity, just the wind steering the boat.
Gerard.
Great idea, would have been very helpful on the trip that's for sure!
A guy in the UK makes steering vanes for small boats. Called Mister Vee
I crossed the Pacific solo using exclusively a sheet-to-tiller system, very simple and efficient. plenty of good videos on that.
A great cruising ground the Witsundays...
Just wondering mate weather rigging up a tiller suppressor/lock would allow you to raise the main?(in lighter winds)
Great adventure👍
That is a good idea, I tried using a line from one side of the cockpit to the other with it wrapped around the tiller in the middle holding it straight however the sea state would almost immediately throw the boat off the wind. I should have filmed it, quite comical really! I can imagine keel boats having more luck with this technique. Summer Wine like all trailer sailers are just so light and get pushed around easily with the wind and swell. Thanks for the support.
Just found your videos and they are providing great info. Hope to head that way myself. Just a personal note. Using the selfie stick is just ruining your presentation. Compare your video with "sailing kate Louise " who uses a combination of set camera positioning and some selfie. Good luck with the rest of your trip.
great video mate, really enjoying seeing this part of Aus!
