    The "old' woman of the 1980s were the greatest generation ever and many of them lived throughout the 1990s and 2000s but they are gone now.

    This is for The Andrew Sisters not Patty Andrews. Maxine, Laverne & Patty. The Greatest Girl Group Of Popular Music of All Time probably. I think even Greater Than The Supremes.

    If you look at 2:55-3:02, it is Maxine who actively tries to make contact with Patty, embraces her, and grabs Patty's face in affection. Patty pulls away to continue the presentation. But it's clear to me Maxine was trying to be affectionate and Patty was the proud one who didn't want to make up and let bygones be bygones. It's sad that a lady of her age was still hinging on hang-ups from the long past. Without Maxine there would not have been the Andrews Sisters as we know them. Too bad Patty was too bitter to realize this in their living years. Sad.

      Patty and Maxene never had a good relationship, Laverne was the peacemaker. In the 60s when they tried to team up again it was because by that time Laverne had fallen into a slump was drinking heavily and was dying. They thought that getting back together might help her out but unfortunately it was too late the damage was done and a few years after she was gone. After her passing besides when they were convinced to do Over There! They pretty much severed ties completely. I don't think Patty or Maxene really disliked each other they just weren't close I have seen Patty mentioning her sister a few times in interviews and was always very complimentary.

      Chris Johnson Patty and Maxene were actually very,very close. In fact they were so close that if anybody came between them it would end in a personal rumble between the two, AKA when Patty married Wally, who wasn't exactly the best guy in the world, he did all he could to get the Andrews Girls apart, he suceeded three times. But, Patty and Maxene managed to communicate behind Wally's back whenever they could.

      That may have been the case in their relationship, but those few moments you specified look nothing at all as you described. Looked chummy to me.

      Pal you have a more discerning eye than I, or perhaps a more prejudiced mind, because I did not see any rejection at your marked time.

    Oh WOW! Thank you so much for posting this. I have been waiting years and years to see this footage. It was the very last time Patty & Maxene appeared together in public, so it is an extremely rare and historic videotape. I've read both books on the Andrews Sisters & they said that at this point the sisters were not speaking to each other. This whole appearance was just for show, sadly Maxene died in 1995 & they still had not made up their differences. Do you have any more footage at all??

    What's the deal with the title? "Patty Andrews Receive Her Star on Hollywood Blvd"????? No way would she have made her mark in history without some help from Maxene and LaVerne.

  • @Szminsky

    Did Laverne also receive a star, posthumously?

    • @Philflash
      @Philflash  9 років тому +1

      +Szminsky They received a star as a group, I don't believe they received them singly, I would have to check.

      Each Sister received a copy of their star. LaVerne's husband, Lou Rogers (Roggerio) received hers posthumously.

    Philflash: Patti Andrews isn't receiving this star............it is going to THE ANDREWS SISTERS, not Patty! What's wrong with you? Patty and Maxine are BOTH standing there! Laverne would have been there, too, if she were still alive! Don't tell me that you are some sort of a "Patty Andrews as a solo act" fan! If you are, please spare me!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Being a lesbian in those "good old days" can't have been easy...I wonder how much active or latent homophobia contributed to the rift between Maxene and Patty? Sad that Maxene had to legally adopt her life partner because otherwise she wouldn't have had any legal position at the time of Maxene's death....nope, nostalgia isn't all that it's cracked up to be....

      Waot hold on... Maxene was a lesbian? What was going on between Patty and maxene?

    • @waynej2608
      @waynej2608 3 роки тому

      Excellent points. Maxene had to be creative about her romantic association, bsck in those days. I think it's a damn shame that she, or anyone for that matter, couldn't freely love who they loved. And this is from a straight male.
      Ultimately, it's great that Maxene got to 'sit under the apple tree', with her chosen partner, despite the challenges.
      Love The Andrew Sisters. I still have a crush on Patty. What can I say.
