I love Landon's hand analysis. He explains it so clearly and everything he says kinda clicks with me so easily.
Pads does the same for me.

My poker pick up line might be "If I raise, will you call me?".
In regards to the straddle discussion, the house should enforce the advertised game and not allow them. What was discussed is the reasons why the straddle should not exist. If a player wants to straddle in a 2/5 game for example, they should just go play 5/10. Don't force people to play games that are not a part of it just cause you want to play higher. It might not be that big of a deal in uncapped games but in low/mid stakes where it is capped and everyone is effectively short, it makes for a terrible game. To me it is not a bankroll issue but on principle.
When you start increasing the blinds, you are removing a lot of skill out of the game and it becomes a shove fest. Not only that, now that so many games start adding these carnival/side games, it further reduces stacks and now it is mostly just gambling and no skill at all.

This is even a bigger problem in PLO. When I play PLO on the east coast, the blinds are SB/BB. When I go to vegas, it's all SB/BB/open for 2xBB or a straddle. Because of this, there is no low stakes PLO.

I can't think of a single casino in my area (NJ/NY/PA) that let's you just put a new game on the board and if they do put it on the board, they'll never call it. They have the games they have.

Is it possible for the turtoise to play at other rooms than Soth Point? :) Come one, go to the strip once in a while and play! As far as i have learned from conversations on the pod Big Bet Berkey is hitting the wall when he tries to get Brian play at the Wynn or another strip casino lol.

Are you guys excited or even slightly intrigued about the National Rugby League double-header at Allegiant Stadium, March 2nd 2024? Maybe you can do a short segment for locals on the game🏉

In regards to uncomfortable stakes playing, at low /mid stakes just play the smaller game. At high stakes there is no smaller game, you have to ask to borrow money, even from your opponents, or don't play until you have the money. Big Game won't disappear

Great advice by Berk at the end, those who think of poker as a source of income need to be keenly aware that they are in customer service business. Your fellow players - those are your customers - treat them as such,

And if you are a big winner in your game it goes further than that. Its in your best interest to adopt at least somewhat splashy style of play even if it cost you bit of an EV. Its very important that weaker players in your game feel that they have a chance to beat you sometimes. This becomes more an more important as you move up the stakes where games and players pool starts shrinking.@@tommyfu9271

The guy should just refuse. I've been in a zillion games where one guy says he doesn't want to straddle, and everyone except -that one guy- forgets all about it in 5 minutes. That One Guy forgets in 7 minutes. It's a complete non-issue.
Also, OTB straddles are awful for the game because they incentivize the blinds to play tighter (better). It is often difficult at low stakes go convince anyone to straddle utg/third blind.

    • @tommyfu9271
      @tommyfu9271 8 місяців тому

No he shouldn't especially as a reg. If the game is too big for you don't play.
There are 10/25 plo games that are really 10/25/50/100 by me. I'd play straight 10/25 but don't wanna play this big so I don't. I don't ruin the game for everyone else.
Every player pool has nit mis regs who won't straddle even though they know thats what the game really is that everybody hates, that poison games and drive away fun players.
      Dont be that guy.
There's also a difference between a straddle being on and refusing and it not being on, someone asks and you say you don't want to. Still id leave it straddle if everyone else wanted to.

"play all the carnival games" is really tough, they do PLO once per round, then twice, then additional dealers choice and very soon you're barely playing regular NLH at all and also these games encouraged by the house for more rake to the point of everybody is losing but you don't want to spoil it 😿😿😿

Really enjoying the Take a Beat segments and it’s evident that Matt puts a lot of thought into not only how he picks his words, but how he structures the entire presentation of his thoughts.
