- Placozoa are the simplest living animals that of which humans are aware. They are mostly found in wet environments with easy to cling to surfaces - though originally they were discovered on the side of an aquarium tank. Placozoa are so unique in design they've been classified into their own phylum. There lots to learn about these small creatures!
Scientific Name: Phylum - Placozoa
Range: Ocean coasts and other marine areas
Size: 1-3mm in length on average
Diet: algae, detritus, etc.
Lifespan: at least one year

One of my old professors actually worked on identifying new species (and naming them after himselfe :D). I've collected placozoa for him in the mediteranian, which boiled down to picking a ton of rocks and glass sharts form under water and hope for the best. They are suprisingly common.
That's an awesome experience! Keep up the great work. =D
could it be Schierwater?? :0 hes doing our Zoology lectures rn XD
@@amira_the_drake4293 Yes, it was him! :D Is he still working Placozoa?
We discussed trichoplax in our taxonomic studies. I didn't know there's different species now but I just love them. No head, no limbs, no digestive tract. So of course nobody knows what to do with them taxonomy wise.
They are such weirdos - but the best kind of weirdos!
They’re like “the blob” but microscopic.
Never heard of them. And I must say that up until point 2:42 in the video, I was thinking that they must be the least interesting animal I've ever heard of. Then you mentioned that they're venomous and that raised them a little higher on the "interesting" scale. :)
Thanks for the video!
Just wait until we get to sponges. ;)
@@AnimalFactFiles those are often a very very bad idea to eat
omg the bird singing its song in the video's audio is the exact same bird that is right outside my home. I hear that song every single morning. I wasn't sure if it was coming from my phone or from outside.
I’ve never heard of them either. I like to watch Sir David Attenborough nature shows, and I don’t think he’s ever mentioned them... It’s amazing how much life is on our planet!! Once again, thanks for doing a great/ awesome job on your videos- packed with interesting facts!
Sir David Attenborough is a gift to this world.
Typically, Attenborough's newer stuff focuses on what looks best with the new camera technology. If you look for his older stuff, there is a greater range of interesting, uglier creatures. I've been a fan of his documentaries my whole life, but it wasn't until my uni bust out the older stuff that I realised that change in trend.
Everyone is gangsta until the semen starts moving.
This is Booger Mans pet
That’s funny!
phylogenetically, what do you think is the most likely positioning of placozoa on the tree of life? ive read evidence for both a basal position at the root of the animal tree, as well as other arguments arguing that they should be placed higher up, reflecting molecular genetics and the presence of desmosomes, which aren't found in sponges for example?
Everything I've read seems to align them with something basal to be honest
@@AnimalFactFilesis this still true, or has it changed?
Господи, я не понимаю перевод!😂😂
