I just ordered the freedom shield for my ultra limited. I liked the klockworks as far as style goes but I didn’t like the distortion. I prefer function over style at this point…great review.
Only have distortions if you look through it. If sized correctly, you shouldn’t look through it. My KW windshield hits right at my nose. Works perfectly.
I agree about the distortion of the klockworks, I don’t like it at all. I know to look over it while riding but I like to look everywhere and the distortion is terrible. I went with the freedom shield which has no distortion.
I have a Freedom Shield light tint, with the extra wide and curve at the top. It’s a 10 in. same as stock height, and it’s super optically clear to look through. It is great on long days, and good in the rain.
Sandy, spoke with you at Daytona and you asked if I ever made a comment. I didn't, but I will now. I just ordered the "old man" freedom. I ordered the touring version which gives you wider coverage. I guess I have giving up on trying to look young ( I am 73). The distortion on the klock werks is too much for me. I know you look over the shield, but you DO LOOK THRU IT at time. The second is COST. Freedom has A LOT BETTER PRICE and with Cycle Fanatix promo code, you get 10% off. Being a POOR retired man, every penny counts and I have to "stop trying to be cool" and go for the best bang for the buck. Also, Freedom has the free return if you don't like it. Does Klock Werk... no.
What I think was overlooked is the optics through the shield. You can see it in the video. Freedom has perfectly clear view. But yes Klock Werks is nicer. I have Freedom Shield and love what it does. Kilock though is cool looking.
When i first got my 15SG my friend let me ride home with his klockwerks windscreen. 20 miles home and i ordered mine. Stepped up to the 10.5" because I'm tall and gave the 6.5 to another friend for his new SG. True believer they work amazing!
The Klockwerks flare windshield works on newer bikes but for us with an older unit, I’ll stick with the traditional Freedom Shields 6” shield. Sandy, “Old School” still rules brother! Keep ‘‘em rolling! Glad you you like the new wind screen.
@@HOLYSHIFT Hello! And thank you for the review of the shields. I am leaning towards the Freedom. But, I have a whole other deal. I have an Electra Glide with the stock shield, which is 10 inches, I believe. The buffeting is horrible, and I am a short dude, 5'7. I was recommended the 11 inch or the 12 inch, but now I am worried it may be too tall. I have come to terms I'll end up having to look thru it. What do you recommend?
Hello Sandy, I got a ‘14 Street Glide Special a few weeks ago! Just 6k Miles on it and it had a freedom windshield and I swapped it to the black 6.5” Klockworks flare windshield and I enjoy it because it’s taller and air is a few inches above my head at highway speeds 😎 purrfect. I enjoy your channel and always look forward to your videos. Thank You Sandy! 👍 😄👍
Sandy nice touch with adding the family man portion in there, because in the end we need to come home safe to the ones that matter the most ride safe brother 🤘🏼 ML&R
Thanks Sandy for the comparison of both windshields because I actually have the freedom 7 shield after watching you get one and I absolutely love it.. I do agree with you about the klock one being nicer looking.. I’m going to keep the freedom for now but thanks for an informative video comparison.. and btw I love the tee shirt design front and back and I will be ordering one when there ready
Just finished a 700 mi ride over Labor day weekend with the 8.5 in. Freedom windsheild. I have tried Klokwerks ,HD windsheilds, going crazy trying to get rid of the buffeting. Hands down the FREEDOM winsheild wins hands down. don't care about looks after a hundred miles of severe buffetiing and having a headache but the time I get to my Destination. I also dislike (strongly) the distortion of the Klokwerks. PS I look over the windsheild most of the time. I still prefer a lite colored windsheild for those rainy days. I am 5'7 and ride an Ultra Lin=mited Low. Just my opinion!!
I give this video 10 out of 10 Sandy. I bought the freedom shield right after you did the review. And i have to say the freedom shield does a really good job blocking the wind which is nice but it gets hot in the summer, so I got 4” wind splitter from Harley for local riding.
I need windshield on mine have 10” stock windshield and still get Buffett on helmet. Got a cheaper wave windshield from Amazon 8” and still buffets as well. I think I need to go with a klockwerks 12”
I have a Freedom Shield Touring Shield on a 2018 Ultra Classic. It’s doesn’t reduce wind or buffeting any better than the stock shield. The wider panels on the touring shield slightly helps keeping wind off the hands.
Did you talk with Freedom before you bought it? They ask what you ride, your height and inseam. They then recommend the size of shield to get. Also, if you followed instructions, you could have sent it back for a different one.
@@sonny7658 Yes I did. Measured and got shield that is exactly 2” below my eyesight parallel to the ground. The owner is awesome and they are a great company. The shield is well built and optically pure. It looks great, so I didn’t return it. That being said, it doesn’t perform much better than the stock shield.
I need to amend my prior comments. Turns out the buffeting was caused by wind coming up from the triple tree/tank area. I solved that with a triple tree deflector and then I compared a 10 1/2” Klockwerks shield with a 10” freedom touring shield. With the triple tree deflector in place, the Freedom Shield has the best wind protection. The Klockwerks is good with wind protection - I agree with others that the distortion, especially with the taller shield, is UNSAT. The Freedom Shield is now back on the Ultra Classic.
I guess I'm a old man 🙂.... I like the freedom Shield as I bought it from your first review.. I had a Klock Werks until I saw your review.. Great Video comparison, perhaps there is some improvement form the last KW I had...Thanks for keeping us up on the latest.
When you look through the sheilds does it look squirmy and wiggly center lines like what we are seeing? That would drive me crazy. If so that's a no sell for me.
What I didn’t like about the Klock Werks was it wasn’t stable at certain speeds. At slow speeds, under 20 it was good. At higher speeds, over 70, it was good. But under interstate speeds like country back roads, it was terrible. I had a lot more wobble. My guess is the hips did it’s job, but you had to go faster and faster to get the stability you need, but your not always going 80+. I’ve never bought another on any of my other bikes.
I'm trying to decide what the best windshield would be for my 2022 tri glide ultra. Buffeting starts for me at about 50mph but if I duck down about an inch of two it disappears. What I can't figure out from watching many videos is how much the curvature at the top of the replacement windshields factors into the height for proper fitment. I am 5' 9" with the stock 8" windshield on the trike but it seems anything from 6" to 9" may work. I like the freedom shield touring because of the lack of distortion but still can not decide.
Nothing against Klock Werks but that distortion is a no go for me. Just ordered a Freedom Touring shield. I want a clear view in front of me no matter what direction I look.
I totally disagree. Klock werks gives distortion and a head ache. Freedom shields are top quality with no buffeting or distortion. No bias only to quality. Let alone freedom shields customer relations are 2nd to none. I say this because I owned both shields.
Beware of klockwerks if you are a tall rider. I have a 300$ 14" (Maximum height they offer) klockwerks windshield i took one ride with and now I own it and had to replace it with a taller freedom shield.
Hi, did you remove the adjustable Air Deflectors from the Fairing? I also have the Klock Werks 6.5" Windshield on my 2021 SGS, no Deflectors, and it doesn 't work at all. I'm 5'9
What do you mean doesn’t work? You might be getting wind from the lower area coming up and making some buffeting! I have fork mounted wind deflectors that work like magic !
@@HOLYSHIFT Unfortunately, these are exactly the deflectors that I like the least. I already have the adjustable Air Deflectors for the Fairing in my Garage, i will mount them first - together with Triple Tree Wind Deflector. Only if that doesn't work will I get the fork mounted Deflectors. Thanks for your Tipps.
I don’t look through it ! You shouldn’t either - your visibility should be just about the top of the windshield. But If I do look through it - there is a distortion on all top parts because of the flare bend
This I know there are times when your looking close to the front end one has to look down and through the shield. I was curious if it distorted is all. Keep having fun
