Released in the Year 1996 the Canadian Toonie or 2 Dollar Coin is one of the more modern denominations in Canada, Usually that means there isn't too much Value but that isn't necessarily the Case with the Toonie as there are Several Valuable Errors and Varieties you can look for and in this video I will show you how to identify them and discuss there Value!

Since I'm a US citizen, when I started collecting, I started collecting US coins. However, I came across some books with Canadian pennies and bought them and I do that because my mom was born in Canada as was my grandmother, of course and grandfather. I really enjoy your videos thank you for all the work and effort that you put into them, I greatly appreciate it!

back around 1998 I talked to a guy who as a past time would press out the centers of twonies ,reverse it and press it back in. .
Every day he'd come into work and say how many her reversed the night before ..

It's actually called a toonie because the one dollar coin is called a loony (because of the loon on the coin). Loony, Twoonie get it?

I have been grabbing Canadian coins especially pennies everytime i find them in my change for decades. I have a huge box of them of all shapes sizes and years denominations yet my knowledge of them is slim compared to my US coin knowledge.. i am probably sitting on a bunch of money and dont even know it 😅.. sucks being poor and yet surrounded by containers filled with money.

I roughly remember these coins first came out was about 12 years old,read article about heist way back then.
The theft of 1.5M toonies
That was the cash haul on board a tractor-trailer that was driven away from CN's Turcot yard in Montreal back in July of 1996 - just a few months after Canada's new $2 coins had entered circulation. It was left to the police to try to get those dozens of tonnes of freshly minted toonies back.
That first Toonie is definitely the rudest coin in Canada. I shows the queen with a bear behind.

I just looked at a 1996 toonie that I got yesterday and it does have the horn.
I found one on the side of the road with the center popped out. But i popped it in backwards so where it says Elizabeth is a polar bear.
The thumbnail caught me... being half canadian, born in 1996... wait for it... on July 1st

I have dozens of HMS Shannon toonies and 4 with the extra sail. They are out there, the extra sail ones I got through a few of the coin groups I'm part of

Start going through a bunch of my toonies after watching this. So far I haven't had any luck with ones covered but I found a 1995 toonie and one from 2012 with a dark colored middle.

@@goodbyemr.anderson5065 that's what makes me think it was a super oops minting.. The bottom part of the 5 is where the super oops shows. The indent goes deeper creating a ridges on either side. Where it should be smooth completing the circle to make it a six.

Thanks for sharing. My two cents .. Err.. Nickle's worth? .. CND One dollar coin has a Loon (a bird) image on one face and the Monarch's image on the flip side.
Thus it is nicknamed the Loonie.
CND Two dollar coin has a Polar Bear image on one face and an image of the Monarch on the flip side.
Calling it a Twonie is a bit odd.
A Nanook (Inuit name for Polar Bear)
would have been the best name in my opinion. But it was rejected by the RCMint.
(A 'Churchill' was RCMint's initial name)
Another name could be 'Poohnie' .. Winnie the Pooh was a Canadian Bear
'Teddie' would work better... if sticking with the bear inspiration.
'BiPolar' makes sense.. Canada is bilingual (French and English). And the fact it is constructed with two different metals of two contrasting colours makes BiPolar a better fit than Toonie.
Even calling it a 'Smokie' (although with more USA forestry influence) would work.
The present name was no doubt 'coined' by an unimaginative bureaucrat working @ the Canadian Mint in Winnipeg... MP Diane Marleau dropped the ball on the naming of the Canadian two dollar coin.... Toonie.. Soooooooo boring!

the old 50 bill, with the Mounties in a circle with the horses, 1 horse was caught taking a #2 during the photo shoot, i believe the 1975 circ, is worth some coin
Same as the horse quarter. Ones valuable and ones not. One has a bigger bust and more dots.

Can you be more specific about the 1996 toonie, I had one toonie in my piggy bank, and it is a 1996, no polar bear horn, it does have wear on it, but definitely no polar bear horn, what else can I look for to determine whether or not, it's the number 1 toonie on your list, Thank you
