The Most Forgiving Whitewater Kayak Ever?? | Pyranha Scorch X Review
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 чер 2024
- Whether you're a novice whitewater kayaker or an expert whitewater paddler, when you're running whitewater and flipping isn't a good option, it's great to have a kayak that's forgiving, but it shouldn't come at the cost of performance. That's what I was hoping to discover when testing the Pyranha Scorch X. This is my full review of the kayak.

Thanks Ken, great review and we really appreciate you highlighting the other side to this cutting-edge design - what makes it good for the pros to push their limits does indeed translate directly into allowing paddlers of other abilities to push theirs (or just to have a more relaxed day on the river), too, and it was important to us that the Scorch X did this while still being a heap of fun!
More whitewater kayak reviews needed for sure! Huge Fan from Austria. Keep it up! 🤘👍
Thanks! I look forward to doing more!
Love seeing the whitewater kayak review. Thanks Ken!
My pleasure! No, really.... my pleasure!!! :)
so nice to see you reviewing a whitewater boat! I miss seeing you tearing it up on the river.
The water is warm on the Ottawa River... it's whitewater time! :).
Great review, Ken. Since touted for all-levels, including 'beginners', might be worth mentioning how easy or hard it is to roll (compared to the average)?
I haven't had a chance to paddle the ScorchX yet, but I do paddle a Scorch. The rocker combined with the hard rails make this boat amazing. I paddle in the mountains of Alberta and BC and this boat makes rapids feel a grade easier. The feeling of this boat skipping out holes is unique.
Can't wait to get it on some western creeks! I'm jealous.
I paddle a regular medium Scorch. Coming from a Mamba, I find the Scorch to not be so forgiving. It does have far more performance but it must be driven all the time while in rapids. and, as the old saying goes, the edges are great, until there aren't. I've been taken on some wild rides in boily, swirly eddies. All of that said, if I paddle aggressively, it will go over almost anything and everything.
How does this compare with the Jackson Zen 3.0 for a beginner (and older) ww paddler? Thank you.
Its a nice boat. I'd like Ken to test the Spade Kayaks Royal Flush ageist it.
Would love to test that boat too!
I have the scorch in Large. It's a real creak-zilla. I appreciate your review, it is nice to see the boat is fun on water that is barely moving.
I love-love-love my X. It's the best s*** runner ever.
Jackson Zen 3, great boat is very forgiving also
I just posted a question how this compares with the Zen 3.0. Great minds think a like. :-)
@@geopietro I would go with the X, I paddled the Zen 3, you loose the feel of the water, but it is a good boat the X is more my style.
Thank you.@@FeWolf
Pyranaha Scorch is known to be a less forgiving new modern creek boats both Dagger Code and Jackson Gnarvana is more forviving (especially Code). The upside is it's much more nible and dynamic but if you're not always "on" then it will punish you. While the Code is known to take care of you but be more of a "bath tub" compared to Scorch. So it's a trade off. I agree it's a good beginner boat because beginner boaters needs to learn edge control which they won't learn if they padel Code (atleast not as fast)
a drop down skeg would be appreciated, paddling for miles on flat water to get to some whitewater gets tiresome without a skeg
It's a whitewater boat, intended for hard whitewater. I don't want the added weight or addition of a breakable object on the hull of my boat. There are crossover boats that are intended for easy whitewater and flatwater.
@@rickymcdaniel7971 I own a crossover, not built as tough as a whitewater
