Sly 3 has the weakest story out of the old trilogy, imo. It had better mission variety than Sly 1 and Sly 2 along with new mechanics that work well (ex. the disguise system) but its story wasn't nearly as good as Sly 2's. For instance, the main antagonist of Sly 2: Clock-La. She was a better antagonist than Dr. M since you actually got to learn about her (she even had a character arc!) and there was a build up to her master plan. This is unlike Dr. M who has no character arc at all, is someone we barely know about (until its the last level of the game) and feels tacked on.
tl;dr: IMO,Sly 3's gameplay is the best in the series but it has the weakest story while Sly 2 has the best story in the PS2 trilogy.
MrIsaac95 I'll be honest--I *hated* the whole Clock-La thing. Neyla didn't even really have much of a motive behind her actions--she just suddenly turned on everyone and took control. It would've made more sense for Arpeggio to take control of Clockwerk's frame, being the flightless bird (as well as mechanical genius) he was, following in his footsteps in a way. Neyla's just a jerk. (the whole "hate fueled by exotic spice" plot was kinda silly to me, but eh--I've seen worse)
Dr. M isn't really much better, but at least we establish early on that he's clearly the villain.
